GW15 review
A very small red arrow from 8.2k to 8.8k in a week where I took a -4, however:
We need to talk about Kiernan.
If I had played Dewsbury-Hall over Thiago I would have gotten a large green arrow and my rank would have been in the low 3k’s. I bought D-H by default as I had wanted Anderson of Forest when I bought Timber but I got priced out so decided that D-H would be the best alternative. My mistake has been treating him as a dead spot and not really considering him in my starting 11.
If that is the case, why didn’t I truly ‘dead spot’ and pick a 4.3m player? If I am being honest I probably would have still played Thiago due to his current form but I never really considered the case for playing D-H and that is a mistake. If I have 8 attackers then I will try and consider them all on their merits going forward. I heard a content creator saying that if D-H was £6.5m more people would buy him, which sounds counter intuitive but is probably true.
I think sometimes we are influenced by price rather than form but sometimes players out perform their price like Cole Palmer a couple of seasons ago. I think D-H is a bargain at his price and worthy of consideration when I pick my 7 attackers even if it means leaving a high value player on the bench.
In other news, the -4 to get Foden was a good move with yet another double digit return and it was great to see Bruno F get 2 goals and an assist for an 18 point haul. I was delighted to see Keane start and Everton keep a clean sheet. Outside of that no returns to report.
A few team related thoughts
So what next? You won’t be surprised to hear that I have 5 FT’s.
Going through my team there are a few areas I’d like to possibly change.
Defence: Raya and Timber are fine and Andersen has a great next 3 fixtures but outside of that Richards has City away, Keane Chelsea away and Rodon Brentford away so I think a defensive transfer is almost certain this week.
Midfield: The only player I’m concerned about is Enzo. He just hasn’t been performing. In the last 9 GW’s he has just one return. This week Chelsea are at home to Everton so I might give him one more week.
Forwards: The only player I would consider selling is Woltemade. He is away at Sunderland this week which is far from easy but having only bought him in last week as part of a -4 to get Phil Foden I am reluctant to shift him out after one week. Newcastle have a great run of fixtures from GW19 if I can keep him that long. I’m not sure I can as any upgrades elsewhere in my team will require some funds and he is the most likely source.
Transfer thoughts
I could sell Woltemade to get Raul or Enzo to get Wilson for Fulham’s next 3 fixtures and this would allow me to get O’Reilly in defence but I think my attackers look pretty good this week and in GW18 when Fulham have West Ham, Everton have Burnley and I’d be reluctant to bench D-H in that one after this week, so potentially I wouldn’t be strengthening my team this week and likely wouldn’t play either of them in GW18.
I would like O’Reilly as I think his minutes will be good when Ait-Nouri goes to AFCON but City are away at Palace this week so I think I can wait another week.
I have zero in the bank and therefore I think my most likely route this week will be to sell one of my 4.5m defenders for Van den Berg of Brentford. A 90 minute man with a great run of fixtures. Everton have a good run of fixtures from GW18 so I’d like to keep Keane which means Richards would make way.
Future Planning
If I make the, underwhelming transfer of Richards to Van den Berg this week that will give me time assess which direction I want to go in. I think I’d like O’Reilly in defence from next week but if I make the move above it would mean selling Keane or Anderson which I’m not keen to do. I could possibly make funds available to buy O’Reilly for Rodon. I will see how Enzo and Woltemade perform this week but very likely one or both will make way next week.
Captaincy
I had decided to captain Haaland this week but then I managed to watch the Wolves match on Monday evening and they looked very poor. I would love to captain Saka but dare I go against the EO of Haaland? I think it’s 60/40 that I’ll captain Haaland with Saka vice.
Transfer summary: Likely Richards to Van den Berg
Here’s the team prior in transfer tab view showing Van Den Berg in the squad
Bench: likely one of Woltemade or Dewsbury-Hall, Keane and Rodon

Hello FFGeek patrons, and welcome to my GW16 write-up. It’s been a pretty awful week in FPL where the three quick-fire gameweeks have seen me slip backwards in the ranks. Ahead of the GW12 bench boost, I’d have hoped to come out of this run comfortably inside the top 100k, but a succession of poor outcomes from my decisions has resulted in quite the opposite.
I’m fairly accustomed to negative swings, but I’m struggling to recall a period where so many have gone against me in quick succession. It arguably began with the Semenyo illness during my bench boost, but the true starting point was the Haaland Triple Captain blank in GW13. Since then I’ve taken Bruno over Haaland for captaincy in GW14, chosen Lacroix instead of Guehi as my Palace defender, and didn’t use my final pre-AFCON transfer on Foden. Somehow each of those decisions has ended up 10+ points down. Even in UCL Fantasy last night — a game I play casually — I picked Upamecano over Kounde. You can probably guess which one scored twice.
I’m hoping that this run has now ended, especially as I did at least get Bruno’s Monday night haul. Although I’d remind you I’ve owned him all season, so after his earlier penalty misses I feel he owed me that one. Regardless, he massively limited the damage and hopefully this can mark the beginning of a resurgence. And, importantly, we now have the luxury of five transfers in the bank ready to be utilised…
AFCON transfer ideas
Despite the recent poor returns, I actually think my squad is in reasonable shape. The only player who feels like a necessary sale is…..

GW15 Review
The Free Hit couldn’t have gone much better, over halving my rank and getting into the top 1m finally. It’s been a long slog from the 8m+rank I had around GW6 when I wildcarded. Bruno Fernandes and Mbeumo Man Utd double up, Bruno Guimarães and Foden all giving good attacking returns and clean sheets from O’Reilley, De Cuyper and Tarkowski, Some of this was luck since De Cuyper was subbed 1m before conceding and kept onto 2BP as well as the clean sheet points. O’Reilley came off the bench for Munoz.
My original team only got 34 points and I couldn’t get to Foden with the 1FT so would have done Mateta to Woltemade for a 1 week punt which would have changed nothing.

GW15 Review
Another bad one unfortunately – it really has been a miserable few weeks since my Wildcard in GW12. Positives first – I got a transfer decision right by going with the meta move of Semenyo to Foden. Fairly glad to have Foden in situ, he’s gained a decent chunk of value and looks in good form. There will of course be the inevitable rotation, but it’s one less move to make with the 5 frees I have. O’ Reilly is the other positive – one of the Wildcard moves that actually looks ok. Again, rotation risk over Christmas but a solid player to hold.
Mbeumo was my other major returner but this was tinged with a lot of regret. Going for him over Bruno on my Wildcard was the wrong move and has cost me a lot of points. He left a fair few points out there versus Wolves too, along with also getting booked. The other big hit to my rank came from Marc Guehi – he continues to steadily reward his owners with either DefCons or attacking returns…or both.
I must say, I’m pretty glad to have my 5 transfer AFOCN allocation now and I think I need them. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that I end up using all 5 moves this week to try and get things back on track. Here’s what I’m planning…
