Introduction
Here we look at the underlying stats performance of a number of attacking players and defensive teams focusing on xG and xA plus xG conceded for teams. It includes pens which can distort things if not evenly spread but are part of their returns.
At the moment it’s just the gameweek 1 to 3 stats. I should have got my act together to do the last 10 but it’s not straight forward. We will have to build it up to GW10 and keep a running view of the last 10 gameweeks
Players are scored on their xG and xA output for the game and then it is turned into a value for money number of which the desired level is 10. All those 10 plus are shown in green the rest lower in red. Players are only rated if they start.
I haven’t done anything like every player. Just those represented significantly in the 12 top FPL managers teams article plus a few others
For defensive teams the idea is to get an xGA of less than 1.0. That is shown in green the rest red.
My intention is then to update it for each gameweek so you can see a traffic light trend as it were. It is a pure number and not adjusted for the opponent. That was just getting too ridiculous.
Team defence stats are only in the last 10 as the presentation is easier

Cheapest players with good gametime prospects in each position – suggestions
£4.0m Goalkeeper
No £4.0m GK played
£4.0m Defenders
The promoted clubs have a number of £4.0m Defenders. Egan of Hull, O’Shea of Ipswich and Thomas of Coventry posted the best Def Con numbers. Davis is safer but not a Def Con prospect
£4.5m Mids
Hemmings started for Villa but his long term starting position is under threat when players return so would be a very risky buy. He was also subbed off at 45 mins.
The same for Yalcouyé of Brighton but he has played very well
Slater is viewed as the best option and the best option at the moment in the £4.5m Mid Bracket.
£4.5m Forwards
No £4.5m forward started. Walle Egeli is the player if you just want a cheap person who doesn’t play just as bench fodder
You need to go to around £5.5m where you can have Barry or McBurnie who both seem safe
