Introduction

It’s worth noting that the teams shown may not necessarily end up being the final teams or the transfers may have been made in the days prior to the posting . It’s an informal situation to give you an idea of trends.

However the FFGeek team, the Transfer Planner Team and the Contributor Tracker team Plus the Contributor teams of Rob, Rick, Andrew, Pete, Javier and Joe mentioned above on the FFGeek Patreon site all make notified transfers live as they are completed. So you’re always up to date and live for a maximum £3 PCM.

GW4 review

Seeing alot of other good managers teams with red arrows makes me thing even the smallest of green arrows is good.

The green arrow was mainly down to Van De Ven’s goal, clean sheet and 2 bonus points for a total of 15 points. Although I had 6 returning players including Captain Salah none got into double figures. The other returners were Van Dijk, Munoz, Palmer and Evanilson.

Van De Ven really was the unexpected difference maker as many FPL managers went for Porro who just returned the clean sheet

GW5 thoughts

I don’t really know what to do with my team. It’s not actively bad, just kind of plodding along.

I think I will definitely WC next week, this week would be better, but Arsenal V Man City is putting me off. I also watched most of the Liverpool Champions League game midweek (apart from the first 10 minutes), and thought they looked really good. So one more week with these guys, and I’ll probably just roll the transfer as I can’t afford anyone I want without making multiple transfers (which will leave me with 5 after the WC to mop things up).

My 2 keepers are facing each other, so I’ll probably go for Dubravka at home. I have to bench either Reijnders or Wood. At the moment I’m benching Reijnders. Although Wood against my keeper doesn’t feel good.

Captain will be Salah v Everton.

Transfer summary: likely to carry over the free transfer

Joe has used his Bench Boost Chip

Hello FFGeek patrons, and welcome to my GW5 write-up! We went into last weekend expecting a tough gameweek, but returns from both of our transfers (Semenyo and Gyökeres,) plus a late penalty for captain Salah, turned it into a respectable score. Meanwhile, our GW1 call to double up on Spurs’ defence continues to pay off. Now, with a few weeks of data behind us, it feels like the right time to take stock and look at some decisions that haven’t worked out quite as well.

Reviewing the Misses So Far

I think it’s important in FPL to reflect on why certain picks haven’t worked and whether the issue was bad luck or a poor decision. The aim isn’t to beat myself up but to learn and avoid repeating the same mistakes. Looking back at my GW1 squad, four players stand out for non-injury-related disappointment: Watkins, Tielemans, Wan-Bissaka and Bijol.

Bijol is the clearest error. I needed a 4.0m defender and decided Leeds would be my team of choice, partly with an eye on a possible GW8 Bench Boost. Despite his GW1 suspension, I assumed he’d slot straight into the XI from GW2 and be the best pick for defcons. Instead, he hasn’t played a single minute while Leeds’ defence has started well. I haven’t necessarily lost points by not picking Rodon or Gudmundsson, but with injuries piling up in my squad, his absence is a real inconvenience. In hindsight, backing a new signing who was suspended in GW1 was a needless gamble and a lesson learned.

Watkins and Tielemans fall into a different category. Villa were seen as one of the league’s better attacks and had a strong run of opening fixtures. Nobody could reasonably predict they’d fail to score a single goal in the first four games, so I don’t view them as “bad picks” per se. That said, I do regret choosing Tielemans over Reijnders — a decision I flagged back in my GW2 article and one I’m likely to rectify this week.

Wan-Bissaka is harder to judge. There was no realistic way of foreseeing him losing his place at West Ham, although perhaps I was a little seduced by the appealing GW1 fixture. Even so, he ranked highest in my Transfer Planner among the 4.5m defenders, so I’m comfortable chalking that one up to bad luck rather than a poor process. Sometimes in FPL the outcome simply doesn’t match the logic, and it’s worth remembering we can’t expect every decision to land perfectly.
