GW4 review

So a fairly incredible gameweek where I amassed 97 points with only 1 Arsenal defender and no Raya in my team. Most of the teams with similar points wildcarded triple Arsenal defence including Raya.

Double figure returns from Gvardiol, Schade, Gross and Joao Pedro. 9 points from Haaland and Jacquet and 8 from Verbruggen.

My main debate prior to the gameweek was whether to bring in Palmer or an Arsenal defender. I bought in Palmer out of fear which really annoyed me as I would have captained Joao Pedro instead. It’s debateable though whether I would have played Gvardiol in that circumstance though so maybe it worrked out ok

GW5

1 Free Transfer and £0.2m ITB

I have a few issues going into GW5. Foden is suspended, Joao Pedro seems likely to miss GW5 with an injury and Shaw is a doubt. Arsenal playing Brighton also doesn’t help the situation.

I only have 1 free transfer and £0.2m in the bank. Ideally if there were no fitness issues I would take Foden out for Gibbs White who has an excellent run of fixtures. However I do have injuries and I am well short of the cash needed for MGW.

If Joao Pedro is out then (which seems likely) then I’ll most likely do Joao Pedro to Wissa. I use Geek’s gameweek review stats which shows he’s above expectations for his price in 3 of his 4 starts to date. He has Hull, Coventry, Villa and Palace as his next 4. The alternative is Barry of Everton who has Ipswich and Hull next and possibly penalties for Everton

If Joao Pedro’s not out things become trickier ironically. I could do Foden to Dewsbury-Hall next who as I said above has Ipswich and Hull next. His form has been patchy though so he’s not an ideal pick.

As for Shaw I just have to hope for the best. The bench would likely see Le Fee at Man City coming in for Shaw.

Whatever I do it’s going to be a difficult week. Which is why I haven’t totally given up on the idea of free hitting or Wildcarding but I think it’s unlikely.

Transfer summary: Possibly Joao Pedro OUT to Wissa or Barry or Foden to Dewsbury Hall

GW4 Review

In a high scoring week I got very lucky with Leif Davies coming off the bench. Calvert-Lewin and Gross were the other big scorers but most players returned apart from Wirtz as per usual and Cherki (what a rubbish transfer). I brought in Palmer for Bruno Fernandes and Konsa for Rodon who both returned.

GW5 | Wildcard active | Haaland (C), Gibbs-White (VC)

68 points and a slide from roughly 34k to 255k, which was c.640k before the Monday night match. My last-minute activation of the Palmer Triple Captain was far from a success, and I have now played all four of my first half chips in the first 5GWs of the seasons, a new record for me!

The officiating did not help. The Sunderland penalty looked wrong to me yet resulted in a penalty-save and 14-point haul for Raya. Haaland’s derby winner has since been officially acknowledged as wrongly awarded because of Enzo Fernández’s offside interference. Two significant rewards for players I did not own. Unfortunately, the FPL compensation department remains considerably harder to locate than the Wildcard button. Neither incident explains the whole red arrow, though.

The Wildcard is a structural reset, not an appeal against GW4…….

Gameweek 4 Review

Gameweek 4 got underway with 5 games kicking off at 3pm on Saturday, and I had 4 players in action, with 3 of those being in the Chelsea v Hull City match. The game finished 2 all with all 3 of my players returning. Morgan Rogers scored and collected 2 bonus for an 8 point return. The midfielder also missed a big chance which would’ve been an assist for Cole Palmer. Palmer failed to register a shot on target, however he did provide an assist for a 5 point return, doubled to 10 as I had him captain. João Pedro scored, got an assist and collected maximum bonus for a 12 point return.

Dominik Szoboszlai was my only other player involved in the 3pm games and the midfielder blanked in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw against Fulham. Szoboszlai managed 1 shot on target and created 3 big chances, but ultimately blanked for a 3 pointer.

Saturday night saw my Arsenal defensive triple up of David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Ezri Konsa travel to The Stadium of Light to face Sunderland. Arsenal won 2-0 meaning that the trio all earned clean sheet points, however this was largely down to an excellent penalty save from Raya. This was also enough for him to earn maximum bonus meaning he finished the game with 14 points.

Sunday’s 2pm game saw Brighton visit Coventry City. I had 1 player in action in Diego Gómez who blanked for a 3 pointer. Ideally I would’ve liked to own his teammate Pascal Groß, however I was short of funds on my wildcard and had to settle for Gómez. I knew there would most likely be a difference in points between the pair, however I was not expecting Groß to score 14 points more than Gómez in this game alone!

I had 2 players involved in the Manchester Derby and after seeing City reduced to 10 men after Phil Foden received a red card I thought this would bode well for Bryan Mbeumo, however it was Haaland who went on to score the only goal in a 1-0 victory for City. This saw Haaland pick up maximum bonus for a 9 point return. Mbeumo really should’ve scored, missing a big chance in the 95th minute, but instead blanked for a 2 pointer.

My final player in action was Leeds’ Tarik Muharemovic who had a home tie against Newcastle. The centre back picked up an assist, hit his defensive contributions target, and looked to be heading towards a clean sheet and maximum bonus until Newcastle’s Bazoumana Toure scored a 90th minute consolation goal. This took Muharemovic from a 14 point return, down to a 7 point return, and ultimately turned what would’ve been a green arrow into a red one.

80 points all out on the wildcard. This was above the overall average of 67, but below Live FPL’s Elite 1k average of 85 points. This resulted in a red arrow from 133k down to 219k.

It’s always disappointing to get a red arrow having played a chip, however I am still happy with the decision I made to activate the wildcard, and the players I’ve selected going forward.
