GW5 review
So a good gameweek moving up from 731st Overall to 234th Overall with 63 points. Way above the top managers average.
There were 3 main contributors to the score. My decision to put in the more expensive Isak for Liverpool’s good fixture run over Wirtz has netted an additional 12 points. Continuing with Jacquet has also seen 3 clean sheets in the last 3 for 20 points.
Gavrdiol has also contributed well with 23 points in the last 3 gameweeks. Schade has also been a revelation 9 points this gameweek and 36 points in his last 4 games
However the success of this gameweek was down to luck. Groß coming off the bench for 14 points due to the injury to Joao Pedro.
In the unlucky stakes this gameweek I had Dewsbury Hall’s blank who did everything but score and assist. I did have 20 points on the bench through Verbruggen, Thomas and Le.Fee but impossible to complain about that.
I have had loads of luck to get to this position as you obviously need and that surely must even out at some stage
GW6 preview
So I have gone through the above with only 1 defender when most managers have 2. Arsenal have a good entry point home to Leeds in GW6 with Leeds 14th in xG so far this season and 15th in shots per game. Konsa at £4.6m is the obvious choice here. He has had an injury issue with England although it doesn’t seem that serious so hopefully he is still an option. He was on the bench as an unused sub for the game against the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
The other option is to ditch Palmer who I should never have bought. He is also technically an injury doubt but it seems quite possible he will start in GW6. I bought out of fear which is always a stupid motivator. You may get well and truly mullered every now and then but most of the time the damage isn’t that bad. The other option would be to take Palmer out for Saka who has excellent underlying stats. Leeds have been good defensively so far although games against Forest and Palace have padded the numbers somewhat. You’d think the 0-3 loss to Brighton would see a response though.
I do need to see the Isak and the Joao Pedro position before making a final decision. I’m hopeful re Isak but less so for Joao Pedro based on the latest updates. That may change the transfers I make
With Liverpool and Man City playing each other my bench is less strong than I’d like although I’m relaxed about Le.Fee coming on for injuries in the attackers. Starting Shaw at home v Spurs and Thomas at home v Newcastle could be worse fixtures but neither give me great confidence. That’s where the Konsa transfer in would be helpful. If you watch my YouTube Video you’ll see that the projections from Joe’s Planner favour the Konsa transfer. It does come with Saliba return from risk though although that seems a November problem.
Despite going on about the Liverpool defence my captain is still likely to be Haaland although if I bring in Saka he could also be an option
On the Wildcard I still have no fixed time where I want to do it. I will review it week by week
Good luck everyone!
Transfer summary: Injury dependent but either Konsa IN for Thomas/Shaw OUT or Saka IN for Palmer OUT

A topsy turvy start from me with alternating very good and bad weeks but the rank is a decent enough place to be at this stage albeit I have used all 1st half chips apart from Free Hit.
I played wildcard this week and it wasn’t great. I sold Gross for his haul vs Arsenal. I think that was the only pain so my non wildcard and wildcard team scored similar. I would have sold Wirtz to MGW which would have been a waste. Many got Gross off the bench with Pedro’s no show but after last week’s Davis haul off the bench for me I cannot complain.
Only Barnes and Barry retuned for me outside of captain Haaland. Barry could have done so much better. I went with keeping Joao Pedro and going Palmer despite my scepticism instead of getting Semenyo and that backfired. I’m open to getting Semenyo back in for the Ipswich game

Gameweek 5 review
I am away next week so this article comes before any important injury news during and after the International break. I will put updates in the comments section of the article as usual in the run up to the deadline.
Man City
I know this article should be about FPL and it will be but, as a Man City fan this has been, to put it mildly, a bad week. Everyone has known about the 115 charges but it’s been going on so long that I, perhaps, naively thought that over time some charges would be dropped, some found not to have enough evidence to proceed and some minor breaches of the rules that would lead to a relatively modest fine and sanction.
It now appears that the rule breaking was deliberate and on an industrial scale and, if that is confirmed, then the club deserves to be punished in a way that leaves no doubt that this behaviour cannot be tolerated. The fans are not to blame and neither are the vast majority of people who work for the club but it seems impossible to find a sanction that affects those responsible without affecting the innocent fans and employees. I hope a way can be found which punishes the behaviour but does not destroy the club.
The Etihad complex is not just the football stadium but a network of shops, restaurants and a brand new hotel as well as ‘Co-op Live’ a 23,000 seater music venue and various school and local community facilities. The complex was built on an abandoned and run down industrial area of Manchester and to see that put in jeopardy would be devastating for the area and for the city. I’ve seen Man City supporters defending the club and opposition fans wishing to see it destroyed. I get it but I hope some settlement is reached which works for everyone, as fanciful as that sounds.
There was a comment that made me laugh which was that Man City have been found guilty on all charges except for the one of overcrowding.
I think it will have an effect on FPL. I will be at the Etihad for 3 matches in 6 days starting with PSG after their visit to Anfield and it will be interesting to see how the players react. I can’t see how it would not affect them. I could envisage a template team in a few weeks with no Man City players.

A red arrow from 690k to 1m.
Anyway, it feels like a long time since the last game week ended and we are still 10 days away from it starting again.
Last week was a bad week but a good bad week if that makes sense. If you have 6 players from Arsenal and Chelsea and they concede 6 goals without reply then you are never going to have a good week. The only saving grace was that Maxim De Cuyper subbed in for the injured Joao Pedro. My other solitary return was from Lewis Hall who got a goal, DC and bonus points. When I say it was a good bad week I mean that there were no returns for a lot of the highly owned players such as MGW, DCL, Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes etc. Brighton, however, look amazing and I seem to remember in my initial GW1 selection suggesting that Groß was a boring pick. If that’s boring then give me more boring.
I was at the 8 goal thriller between City and Sunderland and I was going to talk about potential City assets to monitor but that all seems a bit pointless at the moment. I will just say that when Doku came on around the 75th minute he looked incredible. He played a pin point cross to Gvardiol who put it on a plate for Haalands goal and another sumptuous pass to put O’Reilly one on one with the Sunderland keeper. I’m not sure Doku will ever be a great FPL asset but I think he’s going to provide plenty of assists for the assisters!

Hi everyone !!
I have a busy couple of weeks ahead, with significant birthdays, weddings and short breaks, so the GW5 review / GW6 preview article comes a bit earlier than planned, with another two weeks of the long international break still to go as I’m writing these notes.
Already, Havertz and Brobbey have gone off injured, so who knows what chaos lies ahead. It could be a nervous two weeks and we’ll be fortunate if our teams escape unscathed.
Gameweek 5 review:
A weekend of surprises, as the champions Arsenal were heavily beaten, as were Chelsea, previously goalless and pointless Coventry won away, there was an eight goal thriller at the Etihad, where Brian Brobbey scored an unlikely hat trick, Spurs got their first goal, and the curse of the most bought player struck Morgan Gibbs White.
Man City are five wins from five after a 5-3 win over Sunderland, with a brace for Semenyo, but only one from the popular captain Haaland. That man Pascal Gross scored again and is now top FPL points scorer as Brighton stunned champions Arsenal 3-0. And Brentford thrashed Chelsea 3-0 with two assists from Schade and a first goal of the season for Thiago.
Iraola made a winning return to the Vitality as an Isak goal saw Liverpool beat Bournemouth 1-0. Spurs finally scored but they still went down 3-2 at home to Aston Villa and went rock bottom, as Villa gained their first win. And two goals in the first seven minutes helped Newcastle to a 2-1 win over Hull, their first loss of the season.
Elsewhere, a Barry goal gave Everton a 1-0 win over Ipswich. A first goal of the season for Coventry secured their first win in a surprise 1-0 result away to Forest. It finished 0-0 between Leeds and Palace. And the action concluded with a late Cunha equaliser for Man Utd which denied Fulham their first win in a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.
Top GW5 points scorers were :
Semenyo 17, Brobbey 17, Dasilva 15, Schuster 14, Gross 14 and Tarkowski 14
My GW5 score and rank:
I had a nightmare gameweek with just ONE “returner” in a score of 28 points, which was a huge 18 points below the overall average and 16 points below the benchmark elite manager average, so a very damaging week.
Captain Haaland left it late too to spare my blushes from what came close to a full house of 11/11 blanks. The team looked great on paper, but it just goes to show that you just never know how the gameweek will turn out.
After a stunning start to the season that had me at 33k after just two gameweeks, it was gutting to fall heavily this week from 73k to 476k.
My GW5 significant moments:
I said prior to the gameweek that the “triple Arsenal, triple Chelsea” play was “all or nothing”. On my GW4 wildcard I added Konsa, Saka, Palmer and Rogers to my team to increase my Arsenal Chelsea contingent from two to six. It brought immediate dividends in GW4 with all six returning.
This week, I got hit hard with the flip side as both Arsenal and Chelsea were surprisingly beaten 3-0 and I got six blanks !! So that reinforced the high risk high reward strategy of all my eggs in two baskets. There will be weeks like this, but I’d expect them to be rare.
It’s scarcely believable really that I could put out a team as strong as I did, and almost come out with eleven blanks !! Apart from the shock Arsenal and Chelsea results, I had planned ahead and rolled out the ultra attacking defender Neco Williams against rock bottom Coventry who hadn’t scored all season, and striker Wissa at home to Hull.
Forest got turned over at home to Coventry who duly scored their first goal of the season, Wissa missed a penalty and might have had another if a team mate had set him up with the goal gaping. Two huge disappointments from players who I had high hopes for on great fixtures. As a Williams and Wissa owner, seeing popular alternatives Hall and Barry do well added to the fire.
My keeper Kinsky, on the back of clean sheets in his last two games, faced a Villa team who had scored only one goal from four previous games. Kinsky looked shaky and Villa scored three. Szoboszlai came close with two direct free kicks. When it’s not your week, it’s not your week.
The killer blow proved to be João Pedro not being fit. That brought Pascal Gross flying off loads of benches from first sub, with a damaging 14 pointer – against Arsenal of all teams !! Pedro’s “water on the knee” has a lot to answer for.
I sold Gross on my GW4 wildcard, which was a risk before he played Coventry and he duly inflicted the maximum punishment with 17 big points. That was actually “ok” as my wildcard did mostly offset it, performed well, improved my overall team and produced 9/11 returners. I felt pretty safe knowing he then faced Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool in his next five. Little did I know that Gross is a fixture proof Lionel Messi !!
I had a tough choice for my own Pedro auto sub. I decided to trust implicitly in my Arsenal players and put my two Brighton players at second and third sub. Gomez got an assist, De Cuyper got an unlikely clean sheet and my punt on Leif Davis yielded two points, when his previous two away games had brought two goals and two assists.
So a real calamity of an outcome. But I’m totally convinced I put out a very strong team and just got smacked in the guts with FPL variance, bad luck and some unlikely surprise outcomes.
I was at least grateful for blanks from Bruno Fernandes, Gibbs White and Calvert Lewin, or the gameweek might have been a whole lot worse. That doesn’t bear thinking about. They were all big threats to my rank.
So what next ??
We are now in the midst of a very long THREE WEEK international break !! It’s an intense game so it’s a good opportunity to switch off, get down the gym, climb a few mountains and drink tequila on a tropical beach. Make the most of the break.
Unless you’re on a wildcard, completely forget about making any transfers. So much can go wrong with some countries playing up to FOUR internationals. The potential for multiple injuries is high. Let price changes go and don’t make transfers. New information arrives every day, or injuries, which completely changes transfer paths and priorities.
Wildcards will be very popular during this long break. Unlimited transfers and three weeks of tinkering sounds great if you’ve still got the chip in your back pocket. Have fun if that’s you !!
There seems to be a fair bit of uncertainty currently about where to invest our money, in which “premium” assets. Whilst Haaland has scored in his last four games, Bruno Fernandes has blanked in four of his five games, Palmer has just one assist from his last three, and Saka has just a penalty and two blanks in his last three. How do we unpick that lot ??
That conundrum will transmit to a captain dilemma between the four of them in the upcoming GW6. Bruno has perhaps the best fixture at home to bottom team Spurs, Saka has Leeds at home, Palmer has Bournemouth at home. Haaland is the one with the toughest game at first glance, away to Liverpool. But you wouldn’t bet against him scoring a brace at Anfield, on current form.
Looking at early transfers so far, which will include wildcards, there are three Brighton players in the four most bought players !! It’s all about Pascal Gross and it’s not surprising as he’s just followed up a 17 pointer with a 14 pointer against Arsenal !! Team mates Kostoulas and De Cuyper are being snapped up too. Brighton are definitely the “buzz” team.
Elsewhere, Schade is the second highest FPL points scorer, behind Gross, after three goals so far and two assists. Hall, Tarkowski and Brobbey are also popular too. Last weeks points sell tickets but they are all decent picks, although Brobbey went off injured in the Netherlands game v Germany.
João Pedro is the top sell, despite no updates on his knee injury which could well see him fit to play next game. Szoboszlai patience is running thin after just one penalty goal and four blanks, Bruno patience too, after also registering four blanks, but he does have Spurs at home this week. Elanga, Calvert Lewin, Tzolis and Sangare are on the chopping block too. The flag on Palmer will accelerate his sales too.
My GW6 plans:
I have TWO free transfers after rolling last week and zero cash in the bank…..
