FPL player picks for GW30 by Rob Reid (the FPL Vet) – plus guest picks

Hi and welcome to a special edition Gameweek 30 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’m enjoying some snow in the Swiss Alps at the moment so I’ve enlisted the help of some guest picks this week. I’ll be providing this week’s Banker, but there will be Ace and Joker selections from Fantasy Football Geek and regular site contributors Alex Ball and Joseph Crilley. Here goes!

Gameweek 29 Review

GW26 Banker – Phil Jones

GW26 – 0 points (didn’t play)
GW27 – 2 points

GW28 – 0 points (didn’t play)

GW29 – 0 points (didn’t play) – Injured again though might be back this weekend. Liverpool next at Old Trafford probably not the time to buy, not to mention the blank gameweek next week.

GW27 Banker – Mo Salah

GW27 – 13 points (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 bonus points)

GW28 – 10 points (1 goal, 1 assist)

GW29 – 8 points (1 goal, midfield clean sheet) – another week, another return. It’s getting ridiuclous really. Tough test to come this weekend though away to Man United.

GW28 Banker – Roberto Firmino

GW28 – 8 points (1 goal, 2 bonus points)

GW29 – 5 points (1 assist) – a quieter week for the Brazilian but it’s still 5 returns in the last 7 and a guaranteed fixture in the blank gameweek.

GW29 Banker – Lorius Karius

GW29 – 8 points (clean sheet, 2 bonus points) – a great start to his Banker stint, a tricky game this week though he might rack up some save points if you don’t have a playing reserve with a favourable fixture.

GW29 Ace – Harry Kane

5 points (1 assist) A paltry (and rare) assist for Sir Harold disappointed many managers who handed him the armband (including me.) Better than no returns at all though!

GW29 Joker – Troy Deeney

9 points (1 goal, 3 bonus points)  3 goals in 4 now for ‘The Equaliser’ though next 2 fixtures are tough. I would hold if you have him mind, purely on the basis of having a GW31 fixture.

Gameweek 30 Picks

Banker – Zanka (HUD £4.5) – SWA

They’ve not been the most watertight of late, but Huddersfield have some great fixtures coming up including a GW31 match at home to Palace. Mathias Jorgensen (to give him his correct name) is a good cheap way into a defence that will be keen to keep things tight in a bid to reach the magic 40 point mark sooner rather than later.

Ace Picks

Fantasy Football Geek – Eden Hazard (CHE £10.6m) – CRY

Eden Hazard has started 21 games plus 4 sub appearances for 11 goals and 5 assists this season. He’s returned a goal or assist in just over half of those games getting double figure FPL point hauls in 6 of those 11 games including 23 bonus points. Only 3 players have more. His recent form is also good with 3 goals and an assist in his last 4 games.

He’s up against a Palace side hit by a number of injuries which has conceded 23 goals away from home in 14 games and has a number of defensive injuries.

Alex – Harry Kane (TOT £12.9m) – bou

An assist last week was a little disappointing but it’s still 6 returns in the last 7, even if not quite at the explosive rate of before Christmas. Kane will be keen to bounce back from the disappointment of the Juventus game and he’s up against one of the poorer defences in the league in Bournemouth. He’ll surely be heavily backed as captain again this week and I expect he’ll be at the top of Alex’s list on this front.

Joe – Christian Eriksen (TOT £9.4) – bou

It’s been a quiet few weeks for the Dane with just the 1 assist in the last 4, but he’s quietly posting good stats still and it’s only a matter of time before he’ll be back in the points. As with Kane, it’s a favourable fixture for Eriksen and one where he could score big and Joe is backing him this week to do just that.

Joker Picks

All 3 choices here have fixtures in the blank GW31

Fantasy Football Geek – Steve Mounie (HUD £5.7) SWA

After a stuttering start to his PL career interrupted by an early season injury and then a number of sub appearances the former Montpellier striker has finally turned things around. He has started and played 90 minutes in the last 3 games scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in those matches. He faces an improving Swansea side at home in a crucial relegation match. Swansea have been completely transformed by Carlos Carvalhal but one that still can be susceptible to conceding goals as shown in the 4-1 loss to Brighton recently.

Alex – Christian Benteke – (CRY £7.6m) – che

It’s not been a great season for the Belgian, but there’s been a steady trickle of points coming from him in the last few weeks – 7 returns in the last 8, 1 goal and 6 assists. This weeks opponents Chelsea are hardly in great from and with Palace proving stuffy and awkward to play against, Alex has backed Benteke to keep up his good run of returns this week.

Joe – Alex Pritchard – (HUD £5.4m) – SWA

The former Norwich man looks to have settled in well at Huddersfield and boasts a goal and 2 assists in his last 3 weeks. He is however an injury doubt this week after being withdrawn from the Spurs game with a dead leg. Joe has therefore also recommended long-standing FPL favourite Seamus Coleman as an alternative Joker pick if Pritchard isn’t fit this week. The Irishman bagged an assist on his latest injury comeback last week and we all know what he is capable of in FPL.

That’s it from me on Player Picks. Good luck this week everyone!
