FPL pre-season friendly summaries 27-29 July Arsenal to Leicester

Fantasy Premier League, Preseason

Here’s our FPL pre-season friendly summaries for Friday 27 to 29 July covering Arsenal to Leicester.  The team lineups are starting to take shape and the form clearer.

FPL pre-season friendly summaries 27-29 July Arsenal to Leicester

Arsenal 5 PSG 1

Goals: Ozil 12, Lacazette 67, 71, Holding 87, Nketiah 90+4

Here we’re trying to establish which of the 2 £5.0m GKs is number 1 and if there is a defender available at £5.0m or less.  Aubameyang and Lacazette’s position and who to choose from Mids £7.0m Mkhitaryan, £7.5m Ramsey and £8.5m Ozil

No sign of Cech in this one and Leno is starting to get the edge for me.

The defence looks like it’s going to be Bellerin, Mustafi, Sokratis and a LB.  No sign of Monreal yet but Kolasinac was unconvincing and gave away a penalty so Kolasinac may get some early games but that could easily be it.

Lacazette and Aubameyang weren’t on the pitch much together and both played CF.  There is alot of thought that £11.0m Aubameyang could play LW and £9.5m Lacazette CF but there’s 2 more games to work that out yet.

All the midfielders were excellent with Ozil dominating set pieces

Bournemouth 1 Bristol City 1

Notts Forest 2 Bournemouth 0

I’m personally not looking at anyone in Bournemouth.  They are terrible defensively and the manger chops and changes the team around for no reason for me.

If you’re looking at the defence then £4.5m RB Adam Smith seems the best pick and reasonably safe I would think, although if Howe goes for a back 3 anything is possible.  There seems some FPL interest in £6.5m forward King due to the fixtures which are good as you’ll see from my fixture ease article.  I like £5.5m Ibe but I don’t trust the manager to regularly play him.

The  first game probably saw the stronger of the 2 teams but it again was slightly mixed which confuses the lineup question. Ibe, Smith and King played in that 1st lineup.

Birmingham 1 Brighton 1

Here were looking for a £4.5m def or RB Schelotto as a £4.0m def.

Also trying to figure out who the striker will be and the form of £7.0m mid Gross and fitness of new signing £7.0m Jahanbakhsh

Below is the side that played which due to the World Cup lateness of Izquierdo and late signing of Jahanbakhsh could be very close to the GW1 side.  It means no Schelotto and Murray continues as striker and £4.5m CBs Dunk and Duffy hold off Balogun.

Ryan; Bruno, Duffy, Dunk (Balogun), Bernardo; Knockaert, Stephens, Propper, March; Gross (Bissouma); Murray (Hemed).

1 more friendly to go

Burnley 0 Montpellier 0

I’m going to ignore this and concentrate on the Europa League qualifying lineups for Burnley

Burton 1 Cardiff 5

Here we’re looking at £4.0m RB def Peltier, £5.5m mid Hoilett and £5.5m Fwd Reid plus cheapie mid £4.5m Gunnarson

The lineup looked quite strong

Cardiff City: Smithies (Etheridge 46), Peltier (J.Murphy 70), Morrison (Manga 62), Bamba, Cunningham, Ralls, Gunnarsson (Damour 62), Reid (Paterson 62), Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Zohore (Madine 62).

Goals

Buxton (OG) 32′,  Zohore 40′,  Mendez-Laing 45′,  Reid 55′,  Paterson 72′

Peltier started but went off with a head clash so that could make him doubtful for GW1.  Gunnarson is looking pretty safe.  Reid was in midfield which really kills him as an option.  Hoilett had some set piece representation.  Fwd Zohore at £5.0m could have some potential in FPL managers 3-5-2

The last game next Saturday v Betis hopefully could resolve everything

Inter Milan 1 Chelsea 1

Here we’re looking at the time frame of world cup returners and finding a £5.5m defender which could be one of 4.  Unfortunately the defence is too difficult to predict at the moment but again it’s a back 4 which makes Alonso less effective.

The front 3 includes Morata and Pedro who has been the star performer and scored again but the World Cup returners in Hazard, Willian and Giroud could make that all short term.

Still 3 matches to go so alot to learn yet

Reading 0 C Palace 4

Here we’re looking at £4.0m def Wan-Bissaka as well as the position of Zaha as a striker or midfielder.  The injury to Beneteke seems to have made £5.0m Sorloth an FPL 3-5-2 option.  As well £4.5m def Schlupp seems to have found his way into midfield.

Here’s the lineup.  Insert Milivojevic for Reidewald and you have what could be  the GW1 side.

Palace: Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, Townsend (Puncheon 82), McArthur (Williams 82), Riedewald (Milivojevic 45), Schlupp, Zaha, Sørloth (Wickham 72). Subs not used: Guaita, Ward, Souare, Kelly, Kaikai.

Goals Sorloth  Zaha 2 and Tomkins

Zaha to me seemed to play everywhere from what I gathered on you tube.  Sometimes wide sometimes central all of which is good I suppose but he doesn’t look likes he’s confined to a goal poaching CF which would be my preference.  Sorloth scored and Schlupp played in midfield with £4.0m Wam Bissaka looking good for starters.  Only 1 serious game to go out of 3 though against Toulose on Saturday

Rennes 4 Everton 1

Looking here for a £4.5m defender which is looking more and more like Jagielka although the last 2 defensive performances could still change that.  Also there are a number of attacking options in midfield in £6.5m Walcott (currently injured) and Richarlison plus set piece man Sigurdsson at £7.5m.  There’s also Tosun as a forward at £7.0m.

Here’s the lineup which apart from Walcott could be the GW1 lineup:

Everton: Stekelenburg; Coleman, Jagielka, Keane, Baines; Schneiderlin, Gana (Davies, 75); Sandro (Mirallas, 75), Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Tosun (Niasse, 75).

Richarlison probably came out best with the goal and a lively performance.  The defence is looking a concern.

Fulham 3 Bilbao 1

Fulham 0 Fiorentina 0

The position of £6.5m Sessegnon is probably the only real interest here.  Kamara offers a £4.5m fwd for FPL managers interested in 3-5-2 but the shadow of the likely signing of Mitrovic and even the completed new loan signing Schurrle hang over him.

Sessegnon again played in midfield in the 3-1 win and was lively with an assist.  Kamara played up front in the same game and scored.

Sessegnon did play LB in the second game but with Le Marchand signed and playing ok in pre-season I would be surprised if he didn’t start in midfield.  £6.0m mid Schurrle started and played well by all accounts.

Leicester 1 Udinese 2

Leicester have 9 world cup returners and they are now starting to make their way back although no Vardy, Maguire, Schmeichel or Okazaki (injured) as yet making the lineup a bit of a mockery. Iheanacho scored the goal
