Firstly here’s the FPL preseason watchlist article link. Also our article on which players could be late back due to International tournaments is relevant

Here’s the link to the Part 1 article Arsenal to Leicester and also last weeks Part 2 Liverpool to Leeds update

I’m looking at specific players and issues within a team so my FPL preseason work is focused rather than giving you a mass of information on players who have no FPL relevance.

I won’t repeat the watchlist article here but from the commentary you will understand what I’m looking for.

Sofascore is a great resource for giving you lineups although not in every game.

The Premier League has various match reports for more detail

Liverpool

The fitness of Van Dijk especially in defence plus Jota’s chances of starting are key

In the 1-0 win over Mainz on the 23rd Matip and Konate start as CBs with neither Gomez or Van Dijk coming on.

Van Dijk and Gomez got 20 minutes in the game on the 29th vs Hertha. Jota got his first 30 minutes. Robertson got 45 minutes. No sign of Firmino which is good for Jota in the short term

Still 2 more friendlies to go.

Man City

We will see Man City in the Community Shield on the 7 August which will be helpful so prior to that is pretty superfluous.

De Bruyne fitness and Gundogan’s position are the key points of interest

Just as well as the 2-0 win over Preston on the 27th only saw Cancelo, Dias and Mahrez feature so of no use.

Man Utd

Maguire and Shaw’s return dates are the key lookouts as well as Greenwood v Cavani for the CF position.

With numerous players having post international rest the 2 matches v QPR and Brentford were very 2nd string and only Greenwood of the above 4 was present.

Newcastle

Only £4.0m Def Manquillo of interest here and he hasn’t featured anywhere so far

Norwich

Only £4.5m Gilmour of interest. He only played 1 half of the games vs Lincoln and Huddersfield which is a little concerning. £4.0m Def Omobamidele continues to start with no sign of Gibson or Hanley who seemingly are injured. £4.5m Krul started in goal in the 2nd match after the Euros rest. Pukki also started

Southampton

Nothing of interest here

Spurs

The Kane transfer saga doesn’t seem to have moved much in a week. £5.0m Doherty as a wingback would be of interest as potentially could £6.5m mid Dele Alli as a CAM.

The latest friendly a win vs MK Dons saw a back 4 unfortunately with Doherty starting and no sign of Aurier anywhere. Dele Alli played CAM and scored. Son played CF as a placeholder for Kane if he were to move. No sign of Kane and how that changes the formation will be important

Watford

Only the £4.5m FBs and £4.5m GK Bachmann is of interest here and even then it’s hard to assess how strong defensively they will be

Bachmann returned for the Watford game. £4.5m Masina was there for the Arsenal game although new signing Danny Rose did play 1 game. The Palace game on the 7th should be useful

West Ham

A £4.5m defender, £4.5m Masuaku in a back 3 would be a bonus, £5.5m Yarmolenko and a return for £7.0m Lingard is what were looking for.

No sign of the 2 Czechs in Coufal and Soucek or Yarmolenko and Lingard still at Man Utd so none the wiser here. Masuaku nowhere either so we’ve learnt nothing positive in our objectives. 2 goals for £7.5m forward Antonio

Here’s a match report

Wolves

Looking for the fitness of £7.5m Jimenez. The emergence of £4.5m LB/LWB Ait Nouri and the possibility of £4.5m Mid Gibbs White playing

2 friendlies since last time vs Real Betis and Las Palmas. Jimenez has been getting decent minutes so looks a pretty assured starter. Ait Nouri is looking more likely as an LWB but does have Marcal competition. Gibbs-White is still uncertain for me. Can’t see him playing in 3-4-3 as a CM with Dendoncker, Moutinho and Neves there. Could play in a front 3 but Podence and Neto are the options when fit. No sign of Traore yet.
