Introduction

Firstly here’s the FPL preseason watchlist article link. Also our article on which players could be late back due to International tournaments is relevant

Part 1 Arsenal to Leicester link here

There’s also last weeks Part 2 update on the 29th July

I’m looking at specific players and issues within a team so my FPL preseason work is focused rather than giving you a mass of information on players who have no FPL relevance.

I won’t repeat the watchlist article here but from the commentary you will understand what I’m looking for.

Sofascore is a great resource for giving you lineups although not in every game.

Liverpool

The fitness of Van Dijk especially in defence plus Jota’s chances of starting are key

2 60 minute friendlies vs Bologna saw Van Dijk get 40 minutes and this didn’t help clarify anything as far as Jota’s chances of starting are. Firmino got some minutes but the picture is far from clear. I fear the same for the next batch of back to back friendlies this weekend

Manchester City

We will see Man City in the Community Shield on the 7 August which will be helpful so prior to that is pretty superfluous.

De Bruyne fitness and Gundogan’s position are the key points of interest as well as who’s returning in time to start GW1

Only Cancelo, Dias, Gundogan and Mahrez started in the 4-1 victory over Blackpool so nothing to be learnt except that it’s hard not to see them starting GW1

Manchester United

Maguire and Shaw’s return dates are the key lookouts as well as Greenwood v Cavani for the CF position is what were looking at

No friendlies since the last update but Maguire and Shaw are training. Greenwood’s chances of starting and maybe even as a CF look good given that Cavani and Sancho are only returning to training next week and Rashford is out for 3 months. Martial is recovering but has started training.

The Everton friendly will be interesting

Newcastle

Only £4.0m Def Manquillo of interest here and he hasn’t featured anywhere so far

Wilson didn’t play the latest friendly vs Burnley in the 0-1 loss but Bruce played down the injury.

Norwich

Only £4.5m Gilmour of interest.

Just the 1 friendly since the last update, the 5-0 win over Gillingham. No Hanley or Pukki in the 5-0 win over Gillingham. Gilmour played which was a conyinuing good sign. £4.5m CB Hanley no where to be seen through injury so £4.0m Omobamidele looks a good starting prospect. Shame Liverpool first. You can see more in my promoted teams review

Southampton

Nothing of interest here

Spurs

Looking at the Kane transfer saga. £5.0m Doherty as a wingback would be of interest as potentially could £6.5m mid Dele Alli as a CAM.

Kane is doing preseason in Florida seemingly. Spurs drew 2-2- with Chelsea. A strong team was out but continues as a back 4 so no defender is of interest. Dele was a CAM in 4-2-3-1 and £10m Mid Son played CF. Son’s position is a placeholder for Kane if he returns although I imagine they will sign someone

Watford

Only the £4.5m FBs and £4.5m GK Bachmann is of interest here and even then it’s hard to assess how strong defensively they will be

Watford beat Doncaster 4-0. No sign of Bachmann as yet which must be a concern. Femenia had the best attacking stats for Watford as you can see from my promoted teams review and he played in this game. Palace on Saturday is the last pre-season game

West Ham

A £4.5m defender, £4.5m Masuaku in a back 3 would be a bonus, £5.5m Yarmolenko and a return for £7.0m Lingard is what were looking for. £6.0m Benrahma suddenly becomes an option if Lingard doesn’t return

Just the 1 game a 1-0 win over Brentford since the last update.

Seems unlikely there will be a £4.5m defender although still no sign of £5.0m Coufal or Soucek for those interested. No sign of Lingard returning which has opened the way for Benrahma who scored the winner. No sign of Yarmolenko

Wolves

Looking for the fitness of £7.5m Jimenez. The emergence of £4.5m LB/LWB Ait Nouri and the possibility of £4.5m Mid Gibbs White playing

2 games played. The 1-1 draw with Stoke looked close to a first team and interestingly saw a back 3 with £4.5m Marcal as the wing back rather than Ait Nouri. Gibbs White was on the bench which does his prospects no good.
