Introduction to Preseason
Preseason is made of of 3 parts.
Value Players
Firstly there is my list of 44 players that I will be assessing over pre-season to try and find players that are undervalued and then establish as to whether they will be starters in their team. That last point is crucial. As I write this there will be some element of gametime risk about each player on this list or at least some positional interest. Martinelli is an obvious example as he at least has competition for his place with Smith-Rowe.
There’s also a included a list of players with loan or transfer potential to create value for another team. Take £4.0m Neco Williams for example who has rumours that he could go to Nottingham Forest.
It’s not a complete menu of players that I will be considering for my team. It doesn’t include the likes of Salah, De Bruyne, Son, Robertson, Toney, Cancelo etc etc. All these players I know will start. That’s the difference.
You can see this list updated on the FFGeek Patreon site
Preseason matches
At the moment alot of preseason matches are against poor opposition with teams mixed up with reserves, young players with no discernible lineup pattern. Alot of FPL managers have reacted to Jesus 2 goals against a team I’ve never heard of (see the first goal it would never happen in the PL) or Son v a K League 11. Form in preseason is pretty irrelevant anyway at the best of times but more so at this early stage.
I’ll focus as I said above on value players getting into the starting lineup
I’ll comment generally here but you can find the link to the google spreadsheet I’m running on the FFGeek Patreon site
Each Teams Potential lineup
I will also be GW1 starting possible lineups for each team in the Premier league which I will keep updated over pre-season. It will show what I think the GW1 lineup and formation will be and where there will be uncertainties.
The first batch of 20 are below
Summary of significant events for value players to date
As I said above alot of the games were meaningless against poor opposition for fitness reasons only and with lineups mixed with young players and reserves often with different lineups each half.
The Man Utd Liverpool game was significant in that £6.5m Rashford lined up in the LAM position in a pretty close to first choice looking side. That’s a good pointer for starting although with no Ronaldo on the tour Martial played CF who can also play LAM. If Ronaldo leaves I can see a striker being signed personally so this needs resolving.
£5.0m Elanga and £5.5m Van der Beek were subs.
Palace also played a fairly strong team v Milwall and that saw £5.5m Fwd Mateta start over Edouard which is a good start to his life as a potential cheapie. Also £5.5m Eze started although £5.5m Olise was absent so not a true test.
On the £4.5m Mid front we saw Forshaw start 2 games for Leeds and Colback start for Nottingham Forest. I hold little hope of either starting for GW1.
On the Transfer front there were 2 significant value matters. £4.0m Nico Williams going to Forest which should give us a starting £4.5m Def with some attacking potential albeit in a questionable defensive side. Also £4.5m Andreas moved to Fulham which should give us an attacking £4.5m Mid.
£4.0m Def R Williams has interest from Bournemouth and £4.0m Def B Williams from Southampton. £4.0m Def Tanganga has interest from Newcastle but I can’t see him being a starter if he does.

So here are potential lineups for each PL team for GW1. They only include transfers confirmed. I was a little late for Koulibaly btw. It’s using current info so it will change.
