FPL promoted teams – key players for your early FPL team drafts

Fantasy Premier League, Preseason

Here’s our FPL promoted teams article where we give our current assessment of the key players from the 3 promoted teams of Wolves, Cardiff and Fulham

FPL promoted teams – key players for your early FPL team drafts

In looking at the FPL promoted teams our objectives will be to find the following players:

A £4.0m/£4.5m GK

A £4.0m/£4.5m Def plus an attacking defender

Bench fodder £4.5m Mids

An attacking midfielder

A forward

All the players are to be monitored during pre-season but are put forward as options subject to that and further signings

WOLVES

Wolves finished top of the Championship with 82 goals scored and 39 conceded for 99 points. Those are similar statistics to Newcastle’s Championship title winning season.

Goalkeeper

The GK will undoubtedly be new signing £4.5m Rui Patricio

Defenders

£4.0m Ryan Bennett started 27 games plus 2 as sub as a CB.   He also got 4 goals and 4 assists at a goal or assist every 498 minutes.

£4.5m Boly started 36 games as a CB for 3 goals and 2 assists for a goal or assist every 640 minutes.

£5.0m Douglas started 38 games plus 1 as sub and is the attacking left wing back who got 5 goals and 14 assists at agoal or assist every 178 minutes which is quite incredible.

Midfielders

Diogo Jota is £6.5m mid and a 21-year-old attacking midfielder who last season started 43 games plus 1 sub appearance for 17 goals and 5 assists with a goal or assist every 165 minutes.  Those are excellent stats.

There is no viable £4.5m option

Forward

Wolves have signed on loan £5.5m forward Raul Jimenez from Benfica.  He’s a 27 year old Mexican International who went to the World Cup.  Last season he started 6 games for Benfica plus 27 as sub.  He scored 6 goals plus 7 assists at an astonishing goal or assist every 75 minutes.  He went to the World Cup although Mexico went out at the RO16 so should be back for GW1.

CARDIFF

Cardiff finished 2nd on the last day of the season with stats not too dissimilar to Brighton with 69 goals scored 39 conceded and 90 points. Players of interest are:

Goalkeeper

A new signing in Smithies has confused the issue so will need pre-season to sort this one out

Defenders

£4.0m Peltier started 27 games plus 3 as sub as a RB.   He also got 1 goal but no assists at a goal or assist every 2420 minutes.  He wasn’t consistently selected but is in with a shout if no RB is signed.

At the moment I’m struggling with the £4.5m option.  Bamba is 33 which makes me worried he might be ditched.  Bennett has seen Cunningham signed as an LB and Écuélé Manga was in and out of the side towards the end of the season

£5.0m CB Morrison is the attacking CB option.  He started 38 games plus 1 as sub as a CB.   He also got 7 goals and 1 assist at a goal or assist every 416 minutes.

Midfield

£5.5m Junior Hoilett  is a 27-year-old LW who started 44 games last season plus 2 as sub with 9 goals and 11 assists which is a goal or assist every 190 minutes. He has considerable premier league experience having played 129 games previously for 14 goals and 11 assists. He has 17 caps for Canada.  Cardiff have signed LW Josh Murphy from Norwich so this needs monitoring.

£5.5m Callum Patterson is a 23-year-old Scot who started 23 games and 9 as sub for 10 goals and 4 assists at an impressive rate of a goal or assist every 155 minutes. He was fairly multi-functional having played mainly as a CM/RM but also as an RB earlier in the season. He’s also played 108 games in the Scottish Premier League and 6 games for Scotland but has no English Premier League experience.  Position needs checking in pre-season.

£4.5m Gunnarson seems the best bench midfielder.  He started 17 games plus 3 as sub for 1 goal and 1 assist and only 3 yellow cards so don’t expect much but he seems fairly secure.

Forwards

New signing £5.5m Bobby Reid from Bristol seems likely to start for me.  He was a huge success in the Championship playing 46 games as an AM/CF for 19 goals and 7 assists for a goal or assist every 153 minutes.

FULHAM

Fulham won the Championship play off vs Aston Villa. Fulham are a very attacking side who scored 79 goals and conceded 46 with 88 points in the regular Championship season. Players of interest are:

Goalkeeper

The first choice GK appears to be £4.5m Bettinelli as he played all the games later in the season

Defenders

As I write this there are only 2 defenders listed and of those Ream is the safe £4.5m choice although he has no goal threat

Fulham  have signed the Nice left back Maxime Le Marchand for £7.5m.  He’s French 28 yo CB/LB.   29 (0) games 17/18 for Nice. 0 goals 3 assists.  Yet to be added to FPL.

Midfield

Ryan Sessegnon  is an 18-year-old LB/LM and was the Championship player of the season and incredibly Fulham’s top scorer with 16 goals and 8 assists in 48 starts plus 1 as sub.  The signing of Le Marchand could seal his place as an LM but pre-season will tell.

I’m not sure about £5.5m Johansen or as yet to be added to FPL,   Seri.  Johansen had a 8 goals and  8 assist with a goal or assist every 228 mins and  Seri for Nice 2 goals and 7 assists with a goal or assist every 291 minutes

McDonald is the £4.5m bench midfielder.  He is a pure DM but should start.  He was a goal or assist every 1000 minutes and managed to accumulate 11 yellow cards so don’t expect much.

Forwards

Not in FPL at the moment as Fulham are still trying to sign him but Aleksandar Mitrovic made a big impact when on loan  in January from Newcastle.  He scored 12 goals and 1 assist in his 18 starts and 2 sub appearances for a return of a goal or assist every 127 minutes. He has considerable premier league experience, although with mixed success, scoring 10 goals and 4 assists in 26 starts and 14 substitute appearances. He’s also played 35 times for Serbia for 13 goals
