Introduction

It’s worth noting that the teams shown may not necessarily end up being the final teams or the transfers may have been made in the days prior to the posting . It’s an informal situation to give you an idea of trends. However the FFGeek team and the Contributor tracker team mentioned above on the FFGeek Patreon site all make transfers as articles are posted. So you’re always up to date and live

GW9 review:

Finally the kind of GW I have been waiting for! 119 points and it felt like everything was going my way, not only with my players returning but also many popular players I don’t own blanked.

The main men were Salah (captain) with a massive return, Foden who enjoyed a lucky goal but actually could have scored even more (8 shots in the box), Jota who finally pays back for my belief in him, and my entire defense – Trent Alexander Arnold, Livramento and Rudiger.

I jumped up to 35K OR and am very satisfied with it. This position as early as GW9 should enable me to reach the OR range I aspire to (basically top 5K) but there is a long season ahead of us and many decisions to make.

GW10 preview:

Last week I rolled the transfer so I now have a lot of options available. Ronaldo is the obvious first transfer out imo as it potentially releases a lot of spare money and he looks quite off form like the rest of his team. Last week I mentioned that I don’t like any forward in the 9+ price range and my view remains the same. In the lower price ranges I rate Iheanacho very highly but cannot count on him starting regularly (which is beyond my understanding btw). I also like Toney who really impressed me so far although I noticed he drifted a bit more to the chance creator role some of the time (I also tweeted about it earlier this week which led to a nice discussion).

With the spare funds I get I would upgrade one of my awful Wolves double defense. The 2 most interesting options I don’t currently own are Chilwell and Cancelo. I sat down to compare them and since I rate both City and Chelsea’s defenses very highly, I mainly compared their attacking stats. Here are my findings:

Chilwell vs. Cancelo (20/21, since Tuchel arrived):

Starts: 11 v 14

Minute per Xg: 606 v 1012

Minute per Xa: 757 v 527

Mins per touch: 1.2 v 0.9

Mins per penalty area touch: 27 v 43

Mins per shot: 63 v 53

Mins per SIB: 72 v 124

Mins per cross: 20 v 29

Mins per chance created: 72 vs 65

Mins per BPS baseline: 8 v 6

Last season both players were very involved in their teams’ attacks, but Chilwell got into more goal scoring positions, which is also apparant in the heatmaps. Cancelo on the other hand took a bigger part in his team’s possesion, showed higher assists potential, and therefore also produced a better BPS accumulation.

Chilwell vs. Cancelo (21/22)

Starts: 3 v 9

Minute per Xg: 482 v 574

Minute per Xa: 1000 v 717

Mins per touch: 1.3 v 0.9

Mins per penalty area touch: 24 v 35

Mins per shot: 38 v 48

Mins per SIB: 45 v 202

Mins per cross: 14 v 28

Mins per chance created: 67 vs 90

Mins per BPS baseline: 12 v 7

9 GWs is not totally representative, but as of now it seems like Cancelo has improved in almost every goal threat stat. He created less chances per minute, yet managed to increase his total Xa. Chilwell’s stats have somehow improved even further, but it is difficult to draw conclusions from such a small sample of 3 matches only.

To conclude, both players are phenomenal. Chilwell clearly provides more of a goal threat and if both players were to play the same number of games I would pick him over Cancelo. But that is a big if. Cancelo seems nailed so far (as much as you can be in Pep’s team) and he is also more likely to get assists and BPS. In addition, there’s an indication of a possible major improvement in his goal threat this season.

As things stand, I prefer Cancelo. But I may just end up with both in a few weeks time.

Transfers:

It’s Ronaldo + Marcal => Toney + Cancelo for me. I am also left with 4.3 in the bank for another big upgrade in the following GWs. There are a few different options but I will be thinking about it more seriously after the weekend.

Captain:

The least interesting part of the article. I will be going with Salah who should stay a permanent captain for the foreseeable future.

Shortlist:

I am updating this section on a weekly basis. It includes the players I monitor and consider a possible future transfer.

Defence – Dias, R. James, Chilwell, Lamptey. Cancelo leaves the list since I’m buying him this week.

Midfield – Havertz, Mount, Son, Mbeumo, De Bruyne.

Forwards – Vardy, Kane, Iheanacho. Toney leaves the list since I’m buying him too.

Kris O

Kris’s last 7 seasons ORs were 19k, 39k, 44k, 46k, 23k, 12k and 19k

GW9 Points: 95  (FPL average 64) Total points: 611, Overall Rank: 172k, green arrow: 88k  Team Value: £102.0m

I have £7m in the bank and 1 free transfer so literally have the pick of all players! My plan has remained to get Alexander Arnold back for the non playing Omobamidele. If I feel that my injured trio Marcal, Tierney and Raphina will all miss out, forcing Allan to play, I’ll likely take a -4 most likely for Cancelo or Chilwell. Captain Salah

Transfer summary: Likely Alexander Arnold in for Omobamidele. Possibly more to be confirmed

Ben Wooton

Ben’s last 4 seasons ORs were 338k, 5k, 61k, 26k and 31k.

Solid week last week with a 95 ,
c/o Salah captain decision which took me to my highest point this season so far at 225k.

I did my transfer early bringing Raphina for Benrahma. It looked stupid when he limped off but I am hoping he plays now. It may work in my favour, if people have sold. I think Leeds need a big win , but if he’s rested then I do have three bench options.

Gk I have Sanchez at the momement, although I could do Foster but his teams lack of Cs puts me off. Sanchez did OK last week at City so could save a few at Liverpool.

5 man defence for me this week , but I imagine Alonso might not play (again). Either way the five all have decent fixtures so as long as 4 do turn out then it’s all good.

A Salah cap with Sarr plus the previously mentioned Raphinha make my midfield three.

Up top I have Kane and Antonio, really hoping Kane finally wakes up.

I have Armstrong first on bench as I am thinking he could play due to Broja’s injury at Southampton, then I have Gray who is solid enough away at Wolves. Could reverse them but think I may see in my team anyway. Lastly I have Gallagher at City.

Next week I want rid of Alonso or Armstrong, maybe both. I haven’t got the cash to swap Alonso for Chilwell like so many have but I could go for Christensen or cheaper. If i did go that way and get a solid striker like Toney, or cheaper to Hwang.
