Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW18 points:  49 on Free Hit  (FPL average 30) Total points: 1.137, Overall Rank: 15k, no rank movement,  Team Value: £105.1m

Well, it certainly wasn’t the Free Hit that we all dream of, but it at least it resulted in a green arrow. Albeit a tiny one. Had I instead taken a -4 to bring in and captain De Bruyne I’d be looking at a score of just 25 so the Free Hit was probably the right call. It essentially allowed me to tread water rather than suffer a heavy drop.

With Southampton and Leeds down to a single match, my DGW19 Bench Boost plan has been dealt a blow. I now have 7 single week players (rather than 2) as well as some questionable Villa assets, so Bench Boost is no longer a consideration. Instead, I’ll be taking a hit or two to try and field the best 11 I can.

Transfers

My FT and first -4 are all but guaranteed. Kane down to Davis and Bissouma up to De Bruyne. I hate taking a -4 to drop Kane but going without De Bruyne for 2 matches when he’s 30% owned and a sure-fire captain/TC pick isn’t an option. I have to drop one of my Spurs assets to get him and Son still has an ownership of over 60%, so he feels the more dangerous player not to own. Davis may get minutes over his 2 games, depending on the fitness of the rest of the squad, but he’ll head straight to the bench regardless.

That will give me 8 double players (not counting Davis) with Son, Bamford and Dallas filling in the gaps, which I’m fairly happy with. A bench of McCarthy, Adams, Walker-Peters and Davis feels like reasonable back-up should Grealish or Martinez not feature at all.

The other move that’s tempting me into a -8 is Adams to Antonio. It’s a risk considering Antonio’s lack of involvement and fitness to date, but I think he stands a good chance of at least breaking even on the extra hit. That move is probably 50/50 at this point and if that goes ahead then Dallas would drop to first bench position.

Captain

De Bruyne is my captain choice at present. Salah vice. As I’m not using Bench Boost it’s tempting to use TC this week. There’s a lot of uncertainly at the moment so it may not be the best time, but De Bruyne with two home matches against Crystal Palace and a dilapidated Villa looks very good on paper.

Transfer summary:  Kane out to Davis in and Bissouma out to De Bruyne.

Kev in Canada

Kev finished 48k last season 6k in 18/19 and 195k in 17/18

GW18 points:  45 -4 (FPL average 30) Total points: 1.066, Overall Rank: 249k, red arrow: 22k Team Value: £103.4m

So no Free Hit and a -4 but I escaped with a small red arrow with a saved chip. I think that is a win in my opinion as the free hit scores were all around 10 points higher or so than me on average. So while a lot of folks moved up rank on me, I feel I should make that back (and hopefully more) when I Free Hit later. I also now have three Man City players for the double and nice fixtures after from last week’s transfers.

My transfers this week should be Son to Salah and Kane to Vardy. I am right on the Bench Boost line right now with 13 doublers plus Bamford and Dallas. I probably should still do it and may but am leaning towards TC right now.

However there are two things on my mind:

1. Is GW26 going to be a better BB opportunity for me? Especially as I did not Free Hit and could have a big advantage in the blank game week 29 that other BB teams won’t have (the doublers in 26 will be the blankers in 29 making a WC 25 difficult without a free hit for 29… in theory).

2. How good is my bench really?

-Johnstone is out of form (well his team is since Big Sam came). 2 games will likely be 4 points.
-Targett has a double but is on 4 yellows and the first game is City. He could get 1 point and I wouldn’t be surprised.
-Anguissa is 4 points. Nailed.
-Dallas has one game although it is nice vs Brighton so he could be the dark horse. Call it 3 points.

So based on that cynical math, 12 points is my floor. If Targett plays 2 games, Johnstone makes some saves, and a return comes from anywhere then I could beat the target of 16 points that is deemed needed to be a successful BB (4 x 4 appearance points). It is right on the border.

There is also the uncertainty of COVID right now and it is peaking. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost games mid week. That would ruin the mood in the household if I was on BB. This is ultimately the deciding factor for why I am leaning towards not using it.

However, the other benefit to using Bench Boost now is that if there is a third DGW later (due to Covid mayhem) then I could luxury free hit it and not need the free hit to navigate BB26 (as I wouldn’t be using BB26 if I use it this week).

I may triple captain though. My thoughts here:

-Bruno on 4 yellows so hes out
-KDB has some returns lately but they still seem to be a clean sheet first team right now. They also play Villa. Both city and villa have recently had covid in the locker room so a COVID flare up is a realistic risk to postpone that game. I also have 3 units of Man City already. Losing a TC as well would be brutal.
-Salah does have tough opponents but that probably means he’s going to play both games. Both are home games too, which means more for Liverpool than any other team in my opinion.

So I’m leaning Mo for the captaincy. I will likely triple captain because there are no European games right now. This helps not only with game time rest but also with less Covid spreading risk. So it seems an OK time to use it from that mindset.

Captain: Salah
Vice: De Bruyne

Season keeps getting worse for me unfortunately . Every time I plan its blows up in my face and everything i do lately doesn’t work for me.

Gw18… I decided not to Free Hit as I have 10ish players. I knew Brewster was up for a point and Taylor might not have played but still I did not expected my – 4hit transfer in Tierney to be out of the team and my captain Sterling getting benched only for him to feature on the 83rd minute and miss a pen… Yep that’s the kind of season I am having… This gws 19 pts were the worst ever in playing FPL so I do expect things to turn around from now on, can’t get any worse not can they??…

Gw19… I took a hit to bring Vardy in. Took Son and Brewster out and added Burke along with Vardy. Vardy dropping price helped make the transfer happen. Son is out not just because he has a single game this gw but it follows with Liverpool and Spurs haven’t been hitting form recently. Vardy on the other hand has 4 great fixtures in the next 3 gws.

I am hoping Grealish, Maguire and Bruno Fernandes don’t get yellow cards the first game so they can play the second one.

Captain. I am sticking with Sterling believe it or not. I cant play it safe the position I’m in and go De Bruyne. Also De Bruyne hasn’t been rested for a while so minutes could be managed in the 2 games. Sterling has just come from a rest and there are not European or cup games so I think he is safe… I might even triple captain, I’m 90% in using the chip. I’ll Tweet if I do

Good luck!
