FPL team tips gameweek 7 – FFGeek contributors show their GW7 teams part 3

Here’s part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Rob Reid

Rob finished with a rank of 94k last season 22k in 16/17 4k in 15/16 and 7k in 14/15.

GW6 review

When you get a return 2 minutes into the start of the gameweek, you get a feeling it’s going to be a good one and so it proved for GW6. I’d opted for a points hit to tidy up my team rather than using my Wildcard, using my 2 free transfers and a -4. In the end I only broke even on the hit but my overall squad looks much healthier (quite literally as I managed to clear out a bunch of red flags) and I secured a nice green arrow to bounce back from the disappointment of GW5. Sure, I could have got some bigger gains with a well placed Wildcard or by selling Mane, but hindsight is a wonderful thing and I can’t be disappointed with a ranking rise after the problems my squad had going into the gameweek. And I still have my Wildcard.

I ended up with 7/11 returns spread across the squad which in any gameweek is very pleasing. Alisson, Alonso and Wan-Bissaka all got clean sheets. Hughes and Salah both returned in midfield (the latter looked very busy and could have had much more) and Aguero and Mitrovic both scored up front. The disappointments were Hazard and Mane – premium players both with blanks. I guess the only other frustration is that nobody racked up double figures, but hey it’s a way better than average week, so I’ll be grateful for what I got!

GW7 Team

I’m now leaning towards using my Wildcard in GW9. This is an obvious turning point fixture-wise and also follows an international break so means I won’t have to worry about players getting injured over that period. Thus, I have 2 weeks to try and make some gains before I press the button. Mane is currently at the top of my out list. He’s got 2 tough fixtures coming up and has blanked in the last 2 so I think the money I’ve got invested in him can be utilised better in the short term. The other player I’m concerned about is Alisson, also on the basis of his next 2 fixtures. I’ll hold this week though, at the very least he might get some save points.

I must confess that selling Mane worries me a little. He’s got high ownership and can be explosive on his day. However he doesn’t have such a great record against Top 6 clubs and he’s unlikely to be heavily captained over the next 2 GWs so this dilutes the risk somewhat and I’ll be going ahead with the sale. I’ve considered a few options for Mane’s replacement (Madisson, Richarlison, Moura, Fraser, Dilva & Bilva) but I’ve got enough funds to do a nice double move for minus 4 which I think may pay dividends over the next couple of gameweeks.

So it’s Richarlison who comes in for Mane and that leaves me the funds to change Danny Ings for Jamie Vardy. Hopefully Richarlison will fare better than he did when I bought him in GW3 and also when I stubbornly held him last season during his dry spell. He looked lively against Arsenal last week and faces a Fulham defence who are struggling. Ings has got Wolves away this week, then Chelsea in GW7 while Vardy goes to St James’ Park this week before a home fixture against leaky Everton. Therefore I think it’s time for Vardy to join the party, I’m liking his chances of outscoring Ings over that period.

One worry I have this week is not covering the City defence. They are very likely to keep a clean sheet this week, but they face Liverpool in GW8 so I’m loathe to invest in Ederson and co. at this stage. I’ll also be keeping a close eye on Spurs – 5 of their next 6 fixtures are appealing and Harry Kane is well, Harry Kane. I’m sure he’ll rack up a double figure haul at some stage soon which will no doubt see his ownership shoot up from an already high 25%.

So onto my team selection, with only 1 flagged player, I actually have some selection dilemmas for a change! I’ll be going 4-3-3 this week with Hughes benched for his trip to The Emirates and Bennett my other fit bench player. Aguero home to Brighton is the obvious captain choice this week so he gets the armband again. Good luck everyone – I hope your arrows are green!

Alex Ball

Alex finished in 17k last season 10k in 16/17 28k in 15/16 and 3k in 14/15

GW6 points: 80 on WC (average 52) Total points 411, Gameweek rank 19k, Overall Rank: 32k, green arrow 92k, Team Value: £102.7m

Sorry this is brief, its half time in the Sheffield Wednesday game. I rarely get to watch them live here in New Zealand so a Friday night kick off is great.

I pleasing Wildcard score of 80 points. I’ve bemoaned my bad luck on 50/50 calls this season but all came in on the WC. Im very happy with the structure. ‘Big at the back’ has been popular this season with good reason, but im happy to move a little more upfront.

On to this week, firstly i’ll be rolling my transfer although I was tempted by a Hazard/Laca move to Richardson/Kane. I decided it was too quick to take out two players on WC for a -4. The rumoured VVD injury is also good news for Hazard. Laca also has a nice couple of fixtures so it makes sense to hold on him.

I’ve decided to go double Wolves at the back and play my big hitters in Alonso and TAA, super Wan is first on the bench. Augeroooooo is the capo. Good luck all

Mikael Hietala

Mikael finished with an OR of 22k last season

GW6 points: 70 (average 52) Total points 329, Gameweek rank 238k, Overall Rank: 1,195k, green arrow 667k, Team Value: £102.0m

Manchester City’s failure to provide much information about the Mendy situation makes me wonder whether he may make a surprise return for the CL game against Hoffenheim. It should be said that I am probably wrong if we look at my “flawless” intuition this season. Nevertheless, Mendy stays.

The main issue was Mkhitaryan, as his coming on off the bench has been toxic for my rank. With Eriksen injured, Lucas Moura may shine against the arguably worst defences in the league (Huddersfield and Cardiff).
