FPL team tips gameweek 9 – FFGeek contributors show their GW9 teams part 3

Here’s our FPL team tips gameweek 9 article with the 3rd part of the FFGeek contributor team series. There’s Rob Reid, Scott Hargadon and Mikael Hietala in this one.  There’s a late update from Yaniv Salomon with his final (ish) wildcard team.

FPL team tips gameweek 9 – FFGeek contributors show their GW9 teams part 3

Here’s part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

You can see the link to the part 1 contributors and part 2 contributors article here.

Rob Reid

GW8 review

Disastrous. Cataclysmic. Calamitous. Dire. GW8 was certainly one best forgotten for my team. I went into the week full of optimism with a fresh squad having just played my Wildcard. Unfortunately it disintegrated into a series of blanks after most of the 50/50 calls I made on my Wildcard went the wrong way.

My strikers returned a measly 5 points, with both Arnie and captain Kane getting booked and squandering chances. There were also blanks from Maddison and Salah in midfield, while I had a minus 1 and a suspension from Holebas at the back. Yep I saw that one coming, but hey I’m a sucker for a risky move. The positives were Rui Patricio, Alonso and Fraser who all returned and of course Hazard though his 14 points ironically were a major factor in my red arrow seeing as I’d left the armband on Kane. The icing on the mud-pie was leaving Bennett’s clean sheet on the bench, having also toyed with Docherty until the last minute on my Wildcard. Doh.

When it rains, it sometimes pours. And the international window certainly proved that as I arrive in GW9 with 3 players yellow-flagged and Holebas suspended. It’s probably fair to say that this has been one my worst fortnights in FPL ever. But as a seasoned player of the game, you realise after a while that you will always have bad weeks in a season. The important thing is that you don’t panic and succumb to rage transfers or rash differential moves (and believe me I’ve done a few of these in my time.) And hey, there are bigger things in life – it is only a game after all. I’m still gutted though!

GW9 Team

So my team resembles a hospital ward again and I only have 1 free transfer. My plan for this week was to sell Kane after his 1 week cameo to get Aguero back in for Burnley at home – a fixture where he will be heavily captained. I’m going to stick with my original plan as I reckon one out of Salah, Fraser and Masuaku will make their fixture which should give me 11 (provided everyone else starts.) I did consider selling Holebas for -4 and if I wasn’t 0.1m short I probably would have bought Mendy this week on this option. There’s no-one else I can afford however who I feel is worth it in this respect so it will be just the Aguero move.

My team kind of picks itself again – one other worry I have is Alexander-Arnold’s starting place, but there’s not much I can do about that now. It’s disappointing to be down to the bare bones again so soon after my Wildcard, but hey – I did alright with a threadbare squad up to GW7, certainly better than with the blank canvas of my Wildcard so maybe that’s no bad thing! I’m not holding out any hopes of a big score this week, if I can stay within the top 250k I’ll be happy as my squad then looks strong in terms of fixtures from GW10 onwards. Aguero has the armband and the eagle-eyed ones of you who follow the FFG Contributors League will notice I’ve changed the name of my team to match my current predicament. If you can’t have a laugh when you’re playing this game then when can you?

Good luck folks – may your arrows be green!

Scott Hargadon

Scott finished with an OR of 70k last season and 21k OR in 16/17.

GW8 points: 53 (average 50) Total points 518, Gameweek rank 2,315k, Overall Rank: 80k, red arrow 32k, Team Value: £103.1m

What can I say other than it was a terrible depressing week? Kane was a bust, I left Robertson on the bench, Shaw got zero against the Magpies, and Mane got one extra for the shutout. Things can’t get worse I hope.

This week Aguero in for Kane and Mendy in for Delph who was miraculously and secretly injured and now miraculously is better. Aguero captain.

Mikael Hietala

Mikael finished with an OR of 22k last season

GW8 points: 59 (average 50) Total points 440, Gameweek rank 1,521k, Overall Rank: 1,076k, green arrow 167k, Team Value: £100.9m

Here’s the team for GW9. Having had a slow start this season, I will have to be aggressive in the next few gameweeks. Zaha was definitely getting axed and the doubts over Mane (I’m quite sure he will be benched, it’s away at Huddersfield) helped me make the bold choice to get Lacazette into the team. Richarlison was the way to make this happen, and after seeing his brace during his maiden game for Brazil, I think it will be his breakthrough season.. Last year was just an intro, he looks more confident this time around.

Aguero will be the captain, and I see City putting at least 3 past Burnley (they know Joe Hart’s weaknesses well).

Yaniv Salomon

See Yaniv’s wildcard article from earlier last week

Yaniv finished with an 8k OR last season

GW8 points: 47 (average 50) Total points 535, Gameweek rank 3,078k, Overall Rank: 34k, red arrow 23k, Team Value: £102.2m

So there it is , my last draft of the wc , after last night price changes didn’t helped me out.  Salah didn’t drop Siggy and Speroni didn’t rise.   Eventually I went with a mixed version of option 1 and 2 in my original article.  I’ve gone for a very very strong defence with 5 attacking players and changed the GK to Patricio to fit,
So the changes were:
Patricio from Ederson
Mendy and TAA for AWB and Jonny
Knockaert for Fraser and McTominay for Hojbjerg just to fit exactly to the budget.

The only good problem I have is that I have strong 12/13 players for this GW and I just can’t decide who will stay in the bench.. It will be a last minute call…

Thanks to all the voters and commenters (alot of people) who helped me out and good luck to everyone!
