FPL team tips GW11 – FFGeek contributors show their GW11 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Rob Reid

Rob finished with a rank of 94k last season 22k in 16/17 4k in 15/16 and 7k in 14/15.

GW10 review

Sadly, it was another fairly sticky week for my ailing team, with only 3/11 returns and 3 no-shows in my first 11. The crumb of comfort was that I somehow managed to come out of this with a green arrow, despite losing more ground in points terms on the holy grail that is the upper overall ranks.

The saviour of the week was definitely captain Mo Salah, his 30 points making up nearly half my score. 22 of my remaining 36 points came from Fraser and Alonso but after that it was a pretty lacklustre week. All my bench players were needed in the end for various reasons. Holebas didn’t get his place back in the Watford team which meant I missed out on another Watford clean sheet. Then Arnie was posted MIA on Saturday with a mystery illness. And finally there was a no-show from Hazard on Sunday, so in came Bennett, Wan-Bissaka and Masuaku for 5 points.

I watched the Monday night game with interest, but Aguero was pretty quiet on a terrible Wembley pitch. I grimaced as Lamela blazed a golden late chance over the bar, meaning that I once again lost ground by not owning a City defender. Overall it could have been far worse though. It’s rare that 3/11 returns yields a green arrow (look at last week where I shipped 70k places with the same number of returns.) I also have 2 free transfers and plenty of money in the bank so the repair work can begin in GW11.

GW11 Team

As mentioned above then, I’ve got quite a few options this week with 2 free transfers and 1.2m in the bank. At the top of my out list is Holebas who has yielded me the grand total of -1 points in the 3 weeks I’ve owned him. Mitrovic is also high on my out list but he’s got a good fixture against struggling Huddersfield so I’m holding this week. Maddison also has no returns in 3 so he’s also a transfer priority and Arnie also needs monitoring after missing out last week and Pellegrini’s slightly cryptic comments surrounding his knee. Then there’s also my 3 cheap fillers, who are always targets for a transfer out.

My priority coming in is a City defender. Mendy is at the top of my list for his attacking output, but to be frank, he was awful against Spurs on Monday. I’ve left the transfer until late as I wanted to see the City team for the Carabao Cup team last night (meaning I frustratingly missed a price rise.) Pep’s squad selection couldn’t have been better in terms of Mendy playing on Sunday with Delph, Danilo and Sane all starting. I’m therefore going to stick with my plan of bringing Mendy in, though I was tempted by the cheaper options of Laporte and Stones even if they don’t carry the same attacking threat.

Mendy comes in for Holebas then, leaving me needing to find 0.4m in funds to enable the move. To do this, sadly I’ve decided to sell James Maddison. I was keen to hang on to him for at least 1 more week as I think he’s got a double figure haul coming, but the only other option was to sell Mitrovic and I didn’t see an attacking option I fancied this week -Wilson and Murray are the obvious replacements but both have trickier fixtures. So Maddison goes (even though I think this may bite me on the backside) and I’ve brought Barkley in as his replacement, who’s looked great over the last 3 weeks. This also has the other benefit of freeing up some more funds. My transfer strategy moving forward from here would therefore be:

GW12 – Mitrovic to Wilson/Murray/cheaper striker – freeing up yet more funds
GW13 – Bennett or Wan-Bissaka to Doherty/2nd Liverpool or City defender depending on money available

As for my team this week, again it pretty much picks itself. The news regarding Hazard is a bit of a worry – he may not feature at all or only as a sub, but I’m keeping him in my team. I think it’s a bit rash to sell him if you’ve owned him for a while as you could lose 0.3m or so, making him difficult to get back. Aguero has the armband despite concerns about his returns being steady rather than explosive and his limited minutes. Salah is a tempting alternative, but with Kun’s ownership so high it would really hurt if he does rack up a big haul so I’m going with the shield option.

Good luck this week everyone!

Gameweek 10 review

From my worst week of the season last week to the best week of my season this week, I’m absolutely delighted. Returns from 7 of my 11 players, 4 of which were double figures including my captain Salah. Salah 30, Mane 15, Wilson 13, Alonso 11, Martial 9, Mendy 6 and Richarlison 5. The 4 players that blanked: Patricio, Trent AA, Ings and Aguero I have no problems with right now so their blanks are no issue.

The funny thing about this weekend is it could have been more. Liverpool really should have kept a clean sheet, 4 small individual errors led to Liverpool conceding. Martial should have had 2 goals and an assist as he missed a very easy 1v1 and Pogba missed his penalty. Richarlison should have had at least a goal and 2 assists as Bernard missed what was basically an open goal and Walcott decided to shoot instead of squaring it to an open Richarlison. Aguero also had a great chance versus Spurs that he hit straight at Lloris and really should have scored! Can’t complain at all though as it’s been a fantastic week and has moved me to the top of the contributors league which I really never expected to happen at all this season.

Another huge positive for me from this gameweek is that a big decision I made in GW5 where I picked Mane over Hazard in my wildcard has now finally paid off. One of the big factors in me picking Mane was it enabled me to have Hughes over Hojbjerg and Doherty over Bennett. Now after Mane’s big 15 point haul this week it’s finally paid off and I’ve now gained more points than I lost from that decision as Doherty versus Bennett has made up the difference and more for me.

Transfers

My Martial transfer for Moura was a big success for this week at least netting me 8 more points and watching the Man United game vs Everton it could have been even more as I stated above. In regards to transfers for this week, I’ve currently transferred Hamer out for Fabianski and now will rotate Fabianski and Patricio as my two goalkeepers. I’ve brought Fabianski in as he rotates perfectly with Patricio until GW22 and West Ham have lovely fixtures from now until then. I’ve also gone against the grain and transferred out Wilson and brought in Arnautovic for a -4. I know that seems a bit daft but I already have transfer plans for the next few weeks so no matter when I do it, it’ll be a -4 so may as well get it out the way when he has Burnley at home and Huddersfield away as his next two.

Next week I plan on transferring out Wan-Bissaka for Dunk as his gameweek 12 and 13 fixtures are really poor and I need a player to help relieve the poor fixtures of some of my other players from gameweek 12 to 15. With Brighton being in such good defensive form and having Cardiff (A), Leicester (H), Huddersfield (A) and Palace (H), Dunk becomes a natural cheap replacement as I can see him picking up at least 2 clean sheets during that period.

Bench Decisions

The bench decisions this week are nice and easy. Patricio will be benched vs Spurs and for my outfield players it will be Doherty home vs Spurs, Ings away vs Man City and Hughes away vs Chelsea in that order.

Captain

It’ll have to be Aguero vs Southampton for me this week. Salah performed very well versus Cardiff and I do think Arsenal are poor at the back so I expect goals in that game but personally I’d much rather play it safe and go Aguero.

Good luck with gameweek 11.

Hi All,

It’s my second green arrow in a row, again a small one from 32k to 25k with 5 returners from 11, but 3 with double digit, so a nice score of 75 in very high scoring week with average score of 58. I should have scored bigger, when I was almost the only active player with 2 Liverpool starting defenders – Alisson and TAA (after Robertson was benched for the first time this season), but a late goal from nothing (very easy fixture home vs Cardiff) cost me around 8/9/10 points, but hey this is the game.

Salah was amazing, and it was worth it to keep faith in him. The only problem is that whoever lost the faith in him, had Mane who scored twice and got the same 15 points, so didn’t gain much benefit from it.  The rewards will come though. Another thing about Mo is that for now he has become the 2nd penalty taker after Milner who is not playing regularly, so he could get some more extra points from it.

Mendy with a third return in a row (just missed 2 bonus points in the last-minute change) was like a virtual LW, although he was terrible in defence and made few mistakes that almost cost City a goal.  However, they do look very strong defensively.

Wilson kept his amazing form with a brace (one from the penalty kick when he got advantage of King injury) and in his form he can score against any team.

Wolves again struggled and lost without scoring for the second game in a row before they start a tough run of fixtures.  Jimenez, again, played only 60 minutes, so he is on the monitor list.

I had only 10 starters, while Hazard was injured and Knockaert benched for the second time in a row and Pereira (surprisingly for me) was benched (I don’t count McTominay, so I will use my 2 FTs this week.

Knockaert is the first one to leave and Pereira will join him, although the later has a good run of fixtures and may start again, but I will not take this chance.

I was thinking about Barkley from the start of the week after his last three GWs amazing form.  However, I waited for Chelsea match yesterday, and after he didn’t play while Willian played 90 minutes, Kovacic started and Pedro played as a sub I am sure he will start in this GW even if Hazard is fit.  I think that if he can keep his form he will be a regular starter, so for his price (I bought in 5.8) he’s worth it.

I had 4.8m left, I thought about Keane but I was missing 0.1m, so I was thinking of a defender from NEW/BRI/ West Ham who had the best fixtures.   In the end I went with Balbuena who played every minute from the start of the season, has only had 1 YC, scored his first goal in the last GW, and looks like a good attacking threat.   They have amazing run of fixtures with 9/11 next games with FDR of 2! And his price was only 4.4m.

About line up – I had only small debate between TAA and Doherty / Jimenez, but Liverpool had a better chance of CS and if he starts he can always return in attack (has some set piece responsibility) so Wolves players will sit, and I am waiting for a chance to take out Jimenez maybe for Arni as I will have enough cash.

About the armband – It started as  a very tough call between Hazard and Kun this week.  However with Sarri saying Hazard may only play 40-45 minutes it makes the choice easier.  Jesus played in the EFL Cup and could even play in the UCL next week against Shaktar.   So maybe it is a rare chance of getting 90 minutes from Kun.  This and the Sarri words on Hazard means I will likely give Kun the armband.

Best of all to all of us!

Yaniv

Thanks to all that gave me suggestions and voted in my wildcard article earlier in the week!

As you will have seen there, last week was bad again for me, with a score below the average. The situation was further complicated by players who don’t start for their teams anymore, while I don’t have many of the best returning players in Hazard, Alonso, Aguero, Mendy, etc. So all this led me to activate the wildcard this week.

The team is below as it currently stands:

FPL team tips GW11

I’ve gone with the option more voted in the poll, option 2, which was the one with all three of Hazard, Salah and Aguero. I’ve taken some of the ideas suggested there to make the team fit within my budget. For this I’ve downgraded Maddison to Barkley, Robertson to TAA and the 2nd keeper to a 4.0, this would allow me to bring in Lascelles while keeping Richarlison. So a structure with strong defence and an attack with 3 premiums, 3 mid-priced and 2 budget.

However, as a last moment punty move, I’ve decided to remove Richarlison for Snodgrass and keep the savings in the bank for the moment. I realise that going with 3 midfield cheapy punts is a risk, but the way I see it is this: if I kept Richarlison, I wouldn’t probably play him in 2 of the next 4, while my three cheapies have very favourable next 2 fixtures that extend into the next 4 at least. Probably it is very optimistic to think that the three of them will come good, but if at least one or two do, I have the savings in the bank to move the one that don’t. So I am giving it a go while remaining flexible with the money in the bank.

Hopefully from here I turn my FPL season around! Captain this week will be Aguero

Good luck for GW11 Geekers !

A very mixed gameweek! 4 returning players with 3 being double figures then nothing elsewhere. 3 non starters really hurt me as only 2 of my bench played, Moreno starting over Robertson seemed to come out the blue and felt like a waste of a transfer as TAA started, so in a way I’m kind of glad Liverpool failed to keep a clean sheet! But overall I finished above average and around the 1m mark so not too bad.

Sticking to my 4 week plan for transfers which I created last week sees non-playing Schelotto out for Digne this week, as Everton have surprised me recently at home and looked more solid defensively while Brighton are notorious poor travellers.

A couple of 50-50 selection/bench dilemmas this week which are 1) Wilson or Kenedy and 2) Robertson or Doherty. I’ll start with 1): I put Kenedy in as a fixture punt a few weeks ago after his goal against Man Utd but have not seen any returns since and Newcastle as a team look poor. Newcastle vs Watford is an interesting game which could go either way due to Watfords inconsistency but I am beginning to regret my punt on Kenedy. Man Utd are not the same team they once were and Bournemouth are on good form, so I have chosen to start wilson over Kennedy.

2) I believe Arsenal vs Liverpool could be any score from 1-1 to 5-5 so I would be relying on attacking returns from Robertson which he hasn’t provided since GW4. Onto the Wolves vs Spurs game: Spurs and Harry Kane have an outstanding record against promoted teams but Wolves up until the last 2 gameweeks have looked solid, while Spurs look short of confidence and predictable. I personally don’t think Wolves will win this game so I would be hoping for a 0-0 draw (strong gut feeling on this score) or attacking returns from Doherty in a defeat. Tough call but I am siding with Doherty over Robertson.

Captain is a hard choice between Aguero and Hazard: Man City seem to struggle against Southampton in recent times, but on current form they should blow them away. Palace have beaten Chelsea at Stamford bridge in 2 of the last 3 visits but again on current form Chelsea should dominate this game. Also, Sarri has said hazard will only play ‘some part’. So I have gone with Aguero as he is well overdue a hat trick!
