FPL team tips GW14 – FFGeek contributors show their GW14 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Joseph Crilley

Joseph finished with an overall rank of 7k last season and 13k in 16/17

GW13 points: 33 -4 (average 50) Total points 826, Gameweek rank 5,493k, Overall Rank: 27k, red arrow 17k, Team Value: £103.6m

Well that was an entertaining gameweek! 33 points, a 5mil + gameweek rank and a 17k red arrow which resulted in my rank almost tripling. I had only two returners in Robertson and Salah with the latter likely harming my rank as I hadn’t captained him – who knew City could score 4 goals with Aguero playing considerable minutes without the Argentine returning! I would prefer not to dwell on this hellish gameweek too much, so I will move on to this weekend where hopefully I can rebound.

GW14 Team

Strangely enough, my plan to bounce back is to actually hold the transfer this week and give my team a chance to redeem themselves. There is a fixture swing next week for Arsenal and Spurs while the tide of premium players seems to be moving away from the likes of Hazard and Salah. However, any player that I would like to sell this week has a good fixture, therefore I am rolling the transfer with the view of some big moves in GW15.

My preferred captain choice this weekend is Hazard despite the lesser returns in recent times as Fulham still contrived to concede twice to Southampton last week. However, I am worried about his minutes with his injury issues, so I am looking for some positive words from Sarri to reassure me. Otherwise I may need to revert to the default choice of Aguero, but I will finalise the decision closer to the deadline.

Best of luck to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

Jordan Sadler

Jordan finished with an overall rank of 76k last season

GW13 points: 55 (average 50) Total points 879, Gameweek rank 1,988k, Overall Rank: 1k, no movement, Team Value: £103.8m

Gameweek 13 review:

It was quite a low scoring gameweek this one but I still managed to be the right side of the average so I’m not complaining. There were only 3 returners this week so it certainly wasn’t the best of weeks but it still gave me a good green arrow and took me closer to breaking the top 1k with me now 1,264 overall rank. Strangely enough the only returners for me this week were my three Liverpool players. For the second week running my biggest returner was Trent Alexander-Arnold after a sublime freekick against Watford. He returned 14 points while Salah my captain returned 16 and his compatriot Mane scored 9.

I was quite disappointed to see Wolves concede once again, especially when I had 2 of their defensive players in my team. What makes it worse is they only conceded 0.68 xG so to concede 2 from that was pretty unlucky. I’m not too concerned but I may stop doubling up on their defence if Fabianski has a good fixture, that should help to mitigate risk. It also was disappointing to see Stones not play after transferring him in, especially with City keeping a clean sheet against West Ham, but I knew there would be gametime risk and so I’ve paid the price for that. My other non-returners were Alonso, Martial, Richarlison and Aguero but they’re all pretty essential for me right now so no concerns there.

Transfers:

I’ve been generally quite safe so far this season; I have taken some risks like bringing in Martial a few weeks back, not having Hazard at all so far, sticking with Salah while his form wasn’t great etc. but generally I’ve been pretty conservative and tried to avoid hits. However, this week I decided to be a bit more proactive and risky as I think there could be a huge upside to these transfers. Originally my plan was to do Mane to Hazard after this gameweek to protect my rank but after a string of quite ineffective performances from Hazard I’ve decided to go another way.

My transfers this week are Stones + Mane > Laporte + Sane for a -4 hit. My logic is pretty simple: while Mendy is out (estimated to be around 3 months) I think Sane is actually the most nailed out of City’s wingers because he’s the only one with the natural ability to stretch defences like Pep wants. Sane didn’t play much while Mendy was at LB because Mendy did that job instead but Delph doesn’t have that ability therefore Sane is very likely to play most games in my opinion.

Pep also said this yesterday after the West Ham game: “Riyad has to play well, because Sterling is there, and Sterling has to play well, because Riyad is there.” which makes it seem like Mahrez is a threat to Sterling rather than Sane. The other reason I really like Sane is that every time he’s started he’s returned. In the 520 minutes he’s played when starting the game he’s returned 61 points, that’s 10.6 pp90 and no one else is near that in FPL.

The only 2 people that are close are Sterling and Hazard on 9.2 pp90 and 8.6 pp90 respectively and both of those are £2m more. In regards to Stones > Laporte I knew there would be gametime risk with Stones and West Ham proved it therefore I just felt it was best to move to Laporte as he seems pretty nailed in that defence (or so I hope).

Now, doing these transfers leaves me £1.4m in the bank and that will be most likely used to do Aguero >Kane next gameweek. Kane is quite expensive but he’s starting to look a lot more like himself with 13 shots in his last 3 games and an xG/90 of 0.83. Spurs were also excellent against Chelsea and it’s good to see (from a fantasy perspective) that Eriksen, Alli and Son are all back playing again as that set up seems to get the most out of Kane whereas Moura playing seems to limit him. I will see how Kane plays against Arsenal and if he looks good then that will be my transfer for next week.

Bench Decisions:

It’s pretty much a 50/50 with Fabianski and Patricio this week as they have Newcastle away and Cardiff away respectively but seeing as I’ll be playing Doherty I’m going to mitigate the risk and play Fabianski instead. Richarlison is going third on the bench this week as I think Liverpool’s defence will be too good for Everton, especially at home. Plus I’m a Liverpool fan so not interested in hoping for an Everton player to score!

Ings will be second on the bench for me as he has quite a tough fixture versus Man United. Finally, first on my bench will be Kenedy versus West Ham at home. I decided to play Wan-Bissaka versus Burnley at home as I do think Palace have a good defence and they showed that against Man United so I think there’s a very good chance of a clean sheet for them.

Captain:

I’ll be going with Aguero this week I think. I’ve brought Sane in and he is a viable captain pick but I’d rather mitigate the risk and go with Aguero as his returns at home have been excellent so far this season. Salah is another good option but I think Everton are a decent enough team so even though I expect Liverpool to win I can’t see them blowing them out the water unlike City versus Bournemouth.

Good luck with gameweek 14.

GW13 review

It has to be done. As much as it pains me. It’s fair to say that I’d rather watch back to back episodes of Strictly while being forced to listen to Baby Shark on repeat. But it does have to be done. We need to talk about Gameweek 13.

It was as close to FPL armageddon as it could get for my team. What has quickly turned into one of the most comically bad runs in my FPL history has been now amplified by the carnage that was GW13. 16 points below the average. A captain fail. The 2 players I transferred out last week both getting double figures. A nil-pois no-show for the player I brought in for a points hit. And 3 yellow flagged players for my team on Tuesday morning.

I simply cannot recall a worse week in FPL! Only Glenn Murray’s goal and bonus points saved me from utter FPL oblivion. And you know what the funny thing is? I’m actually laughing about it! My season has gone so diabolically badly over the last few weeks that I’ve passed the stage of disappointment and it has been replaced by sheer amusement. Well, what can you do?! Move on to GW14 I guess.

GW14 Team

Ok so this may sound a bit crazy based on what I’ve just said, but I’m actually going to roll my transfer this week. I’m fairly confident based on what we know from the pressers so far that my 3 yellow flagged players will be ok. Arnie looks to be fit and the comments on Murray and Hazard suggest that they’re probably going to be fine as well.

If they’re all fit, it actually leaves me with an ok line-up and even a bit of bench cover. I just hope my City players play – I’m worried about Stones game-time and if Jesus is fit then Kun may get a rest after playing 90 minutes on Tuesday. We’ll see how Pep’s rotation roulette pans out I guess. I’m unsure about my captain, I’ll have a look at the polls at lunchtime tomorrow and make a call. At the moment I’m sitting on Hazard, but Aguero and Salah are both options again as per usual.

Moving forward, there’s a bit of a change in the fixture dynamic come GW15 and I’m starting to eye up some changes to the core of my line-up. I’m not going to reveal too much at present and it will depend a little on how GW14 goes, but I’m keen to have the flexibility of 2 free transfers to give me a choice of moves.

So once again I’m (stupidly?) optimistic for this week, I think 30 points is doable lol! Cheers everyone, best of luck and keep smiling. And don’t forget it’s a Friday night deadline.

Keith Spencer

Keith finished with a 3k OR last season, an incredible OR of 325 in 16/17 and 9k in 15/16.

He is one of the 10 top FPL managers I follow weekly who’ve finished the last 3 seasons in the top 10k OR.

GW13 points: 51 (average 50) Total points 843, Gameweek rank 2,661k, Overall Rank: 11k, green arrow 2k, Team Value: £102.5m

Transfer is made (Keane out and Balbuena in)  but my team lineup may not be settled just yet and could change.

FPL team tips GW14

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an 8k OR last season

GW13 points: 50 (average 50) Total points 841, Gameweek rank 2,848k, Overall Rank: 12k, green arrow 1k, Team Value: £103.8m

So, fifth green arrow in a row, again very small one, but I will not complain after I had a bad week with only 4 returners, and I had a bad call with the captain (I will never captain Kun again in away game 😊)

So I had 3 clean sheets, 2 from Liverpool players , and my small green arrow came from TAA (most of the game leaders has Robertson).  The third one came from my transfer in Keane who got 2 extra bonus points and I had a good call bringing him in over Laporte).  The last return was from Salah, who I should have captained , and I really don’t know if it hurt my rank or not…

Last GW I had 2 FT, and used only 1 , I wanted to do Raheem for Eden but in the last minute I didn’t and that’s a shame, look what I wrote 2 weeks ago :

” Rahim (who is not in my team) kept his stunning form and had 2+2 game with a season high of 21 points, that really didn’t hurt as most of the leading managers don’t have him, but he is on my monitor list , and I will have to decide for the long term if it’s him or Eden, (77 vs 79 points) as I think than he can outscore Eden during the entire season (As I bought Eden very late, I am not obligated to his price…)”, will get to it later…

Wolves were very disappointing, Jimenez should have scored but his ball was cleared inches before the line, the goals they conceded didn’t hurt me, cause most of the top 100k players had at least 1 Wolves defender if not 2… Richarlison was very disappointing, but again he was captain of so many other people so I was OK with that too.

Chelsea performance, it will be better if I will not mentioned it at all, I just can say that Barkley played for 15 minutes and was excellent , I think he deserves one or two more chances if he can get back into the starting lineup with his form.

Eden got me 9 points in 5 GW since I changed him with Mane, if I still had Mane I could have been deep in the top 10k, but hey this is the game…

Gameweek 14

So again I have 2 FT, and for me it’s about time to bring Raheem (I just can say he is maybe the biggest reason I ended top 10k last year), I don’t care that Eden plays home vs Fulham cause I do think that Rahim is more dangerous than him no matter who they are playing against, so I did a first early sub, gaining already 0.2m, and by the end of the week at least 0.4m , but it was not about the money at all.

I still have one more FT and I have £1.8m ITB, I am saving between 1.1-1.2 for next week for Kane vs Kun (better form, much better fixtures and more important will play all matches while I can’t see Kun plays 3 matches in a week.  That will be the same to the end of December.  So that leaves me with 0.6-0.7 for the second FT.

My bench this week will be Richarlison (It is only because I can’t put him vs Alisson and TAA mentally), Keane and McTominay. I have 2 thoughts, maybe Arni for Wilson, mainly for the different in fixtures but for doing that I need a sign that Arni is fit for this GW (BTW I will lose 0.3m on the sale, and I will want back Wilson some time) another option is bringing Kenedy who is in good form and has nice fixtures for McTominay, as I will need another regular starter during December.  Anyway it will be a last minute call.

About the armband – It will be between Kun and Raheem, if Jesus fit, I can easily see him startsing before Kun after Kun played 180 minutes in few days.  So it will again be a  last-minute call.

Good luck to all of you, have a lot of green arrows (for me I hope for 6th straight one who will finally bring me back to the top 10k)

FPL team tips GW14

Sergio Torija

Sergio finished with an OR of 17k last season and 21k in 16/17

GW13 points: 32 (average 50) Total points 727, Gameweek rank 5,561k, Overall Rank: 653k, red arrow 243k, Team Value: £101.9m

Since GW8 I was convinced that my GW rank then of 5.2m would be my lowest score of the season, however I ‘bettered’ this in GW13 with a horrendous 5.5m rank. That was 32 points, half of them from my Liverpool pair, and nothing else to report other than a few more flags picked along the way. The ever present of Arnautovic plus Hazard. Lascelles still didn’t make the squad.

So I understand the appeal of going from Hazard to a City mid, and actually Hazard is my planned funds maker to bring in Kane next week, however with a home game to Fulham I am reluctant to take him out this week, unless there was definite information that he won’t play. Indeed, Sarri seemed to say yesterday that he will play. So plan A is to save the transfer this week. Plan B would be if Hazard was ruled out of the Fulham game, then I could advance the move and go to either Silva or Sane, unfortunately not Sterling because that doesn’t free up funds. Captain this week was meant to be Hazard as well, but if he is not cleared 100% for the game, then it will be Aguero.

Good luck for GW14 Geekers !
