FPL team tips GW14 – FFGeek contributor’s teams part 3

Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

See the part 1 contributors and part 2 contributors article.

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an overall rank of 4k last season and 8k in 17/18

GW13 points: 66 (FPL average 49) Total points 776 Gameweek rank 852k, Overall Rank: 55k, green arrow 8k, Team Value: £104.7m

So 66 points, 5 returners and another time losing points not choosing Vardy as my Captain.  He scored 3 points more than Mane , after 4 points more than Abraham last week. My differentials also disappointed.   Martial had a very quiet game as well as Digne who I just bought for the 1 game.   Unfortunately plans are one thing and the reality is another.

After I saw Abraham injured in Valencia , I thought its time to change my plan so I took a hit to bring in Kane.    Kane +Taylor for Abraham and Digne is the transfer.  I feel comfortable with the hit, as I give the armband to Kane, so if he fires it will all be worth it.  I just hope Vardy will not hurt me in the 3rd time in a row.

Overall its 4 green arrows in a row and a 55k overall rank, with great team value and I still have my wildcard.  I imagine I will use it and change direction in GW18.

Good luck all!

Yaniv

Transfer summary:  Kane and C Taylor in  for Abraham and Digne

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 2 seasons overall rank were 17k and 1k

GW13 points: 63 (FPL average 49) Total points 775 Gameweek rank 1,226k, Overall Rank: 57k, red arrow 2k, Team Value: £103.5m

Last week saw a small red arrow but I feared a lot worse after getting the captain choice wrong. In the end, choosing Mané over Vardy only cost me 3 points.

Looking ahead, I’ve reached breaking point with Sterling and have decided to remove him. He is capable of big returns but £12m is a lot of cash and is currently preventing me from having a balanced team. At that price, he needs to be returning more frequently and be a regular captain choice to justify his place in my squad. So he will almost certainly go and the resulting funds diverted into attack.

Options for Sterling’s replacement are Martial and Maddison – a tough call. I am leaning towards the Leicester man given his form, ownership and favourable fixtures.

Either move will be accompanied by Connolly to Jimenez, who also has appealing upcoming fixtures as well as form. I’m looking forward to getting back to a three man attack.

The Abraham injury adds another layer of complexity to be confirmed.  The squad below assumes the moves above are made. Likely bench will be Tomori, Rico and Dendoncker.

Captain choice is tricky, but I may well stay on Mané and give Vardy another opportunity to punish me!

Transfer summary:  Likely Sterling out for Martial or Maddison and Connolly to Jimenez.  Abraham to be confirmed

Rob Reid

Rob’s last 5 seasons overall rank were 148k, 94k, 22k, 4k and 7k

GW13

A fairly solid week again, enough to secure a small green arrow – that’s 4 in 5 weeks since my GW9 Wildcard. The week certainly turned on couple of key decisions. The first was on Saturday morning when I decided to switch my Captain from Aubameyang to Vardy having seen the Captain poll and read Geek’s Captain article. That was more than enough for me. I then got lucky on penalty-gate. A missed penalty and what was looking like a significant rank drop turned into a 24 point captain return in a couple of minutes. I’ve been fairly lucky to be on the correct side of VAR from an FPL persepctive so far this season although I’m all too aware that at some point things will even out!

Otherwise there were returns for Soyuncu, Lundstram, De Bruyne, Mane and Aubameyang, though the latter has been disappointing overall with just a goal and an assist in the 5 weeks I’ve owned him. The Liverpool defence conceded again and is still a major source of frustration though with their fixture run I’m sure they’ll start keeping clean sheets soon. The other frustrating thing was Spurs shipping 2 goals when coasting at 3-0 though again I’m hopeful that Mourinho will get things tightened up there.

GW14 Team

2 free transfers and 1.5m in the bank so quite a bit of flexibility this week. My first decision is what to do with Aubameyang. He’s tying up a lot of funds and not justifying his price. The trade-off with this is that he still has some good fixtures to come, though I think Arsenal’s visit to Norwich this week could be a banana skin, what with The Gunners away from being so erratic. I’ve deliberated much on this one through the week! In the end, I’ve decided to bite the bullet and sell him so it was the case of who to bring in. (And of making sure the space behind my sofa is clear at 2pm on Sunday!)

On the radar I have Jimenez, Ings and Rashford. All would free up varying levels of funds and have their pros and cons. In the end I’ve gone for Jimenez – I like his recent form and his upcoming fixtures, including a helpful easier game in that troublesome GW18.

My second transfer is tied up with Abraham, I’ve got quite a bit tied up in him funds-wise and he’s the highest owned player in the game, so he’s dangerous not to own.  At the moment I’m thinking of selling him for Kane or Lacazette.  I’ve got enough cover to bench Abraham if I decide to this week  but I could bolster my squad a little on the basis of Mason Mount being a bit of a rotation risk. The transfers I’m looking at would either be to sell Mount for Son or Pulisic, or to strengthen elsewhere and bring in Robertson for Chambers. I’m currently undecided on this and probably won’t make a call until Friday night – I’ll Tweet with my final line-up when I do.  Hopefully Geek will be able to update this article as well.

As for my team, if I go with Robbo I’d start him over Lundstram with his Lordship taking place 1 on my bench for cover for Mount /Abraham. At the moment I’m on Vardy for captain, though if the polls suggest a strong leader such as Mane then I’ll probably flip to them.

Good luck this week folks!

Transfer summary:  Aubameyang out for Jimenez.  Possible Abraham out for Kane or Lacazette funded by a Mount sale.

Jordan Sadler

Jordan finished in 14k last season and 76k in 17/18

GW13 points: 66 -4 (FPL average 49) Total points 748 Gameweek rank 884k, Overall Rank: 197k, green arrow 3k, Team Value: £103.7m

GW13 Review:

It was a pretty average gameweek again for me with a score of 66 (-4) and 3k green arrow. I had 6 returns, including my captain Mane. Took a gamble going with Mane instead of Vardy but it only cost me 3 points so that wasn’t too big of a deal. If you’ve noticed a pattern here on what I said last week, that’s because I’ve written it exactly the same as it was a very similar performance to last week by my team! My two transfers paid off in regards to the hit I made. If I’d not done my transfers, I’d have scored 5 points, but my two new players scored 13 so with the hit I gained 4 points which is good in my book! It also meant I clearly out the two big weaknesses in my team for two good players.

GW14:

Overview:

How things change. Last week I said I was very happy with my team and only had 2 idealistic transfers in mind in Tielemans and Mount to Maddison and Pulisic. But, with the sacking of Pochettino and hiring of Mourinho, Spurs players become a far more interesting prospect. Then you also have this bemusing performance of Liverpool’s defence which has only kept 3 cleansheets in 22 games in all comps this season. It’s definitely making me consider bringing in Kane or Son while changing Trent or Robertson to a more reasonable priced defender. The only frustrating thing is the ideal defenders for me would be either Tomori or Aurier and both are £0.1m too much for a Tielemans to Son transfer and £0.2m too much for an Abraham to Kane transfer. I’d say the first option is far more likely if I do decide to go down this route but it may mean taking a hit or 2 to take Saka down to a £4.4 or £4.3. However, I don’t need to worry about this until the gameweek is over.

Transfers:

Did one of those idealistic transfers I mentioned last week. With Mount not starting it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do Mount to Pulisic. Doing this transfer also meant I gained £0.2m value as I missed the Mount drop and got the Pulisic rise in value.

Bench:

As Abraham isn’t fit he’s on my bench. As previously mentioned Saka is bench fodder so he’s final sub. Finally I’ve put Rico as second sub as he’s away at Tottenham and I’d expect Spurs to perform well with it being Mourinho’s first home Premier League game for them.

Captain:

Another week another Mane, Vardy 50/50. I’ve stuck with Mane the last two weeks and it’s cost me 8 points which isn’t the end of the world but not ideal. I just feel like the week I finally switch it’ll end up being Mane’s week and Vardy will blank. So I think I’ll most likely stick with Mane again as I think Brighton is an easier game than Everton even though Everton are in hopeless form. I’m just hoping the Everton players start playing to try and save Silva’s job, meaning that Leicester don’t score too many! Good luck with gameweek 14.

Stephen Troop

Stephen’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 43k, 52k and 64k

GW13 points: 56 (FPL average 49) Total points 744 Gameweek rank 2,253k, Overall Rank: 227k, red arrow 45k, Team Value: £103.2m

A disappointing week where I dropped 45k places. My team in general actually performed ok. Pope had his 2nd consecutive 9 pointer. Robertson with another assist despite yet another match with no clean sheet. De Bruyne goal, Vardy goal and assist and Jiminez goal is a good proportion of returners.

The big swing was my captain choice in Sterling instead of Vardy. Vardy was the favourite amongst active players but Brighton’s defensive stats and form at home were good so I felt Vardy would be limited to maybe a goal where as City would win more comfortably at home vs Chelsea. For Vardy to miss a penalty, but then get to retake it (and score) followed shortly by a Sterling goal ruled out by VAR for an armpit offside was a huge swing. Soyuncu on my bench with points for the 3rd consecutive week added to the problems. At least I have players performing for the most part.

Moving onto GW14 and I have 2FT and 2m in the bank reserved for getting a Liverpool asset in. For patreons who listened to the Podcast, swapping city to Liverpool assets was the subject of discussion. Which one to take out and which to bring in is a tough choice. Sterling stats are overall better, particularly from a big chances/big chances created point of view but De Bruyne has been getting more volumes of shots and chances created recently. The Liverpool duo have better recent underlying stats than both.

At the moment I’m thinking De Bruyne >Mane and getting the 0.2m needed from downgrading Mount or Hayden if possible. If Abraham is injured long term, then it will be from him but I’m unsure of the 2nd transfer as I write this.

Captain is a tough choice this week. Think I’ll pick Vardy over Mane but either of them could easily haul. Soyuncu is not staying on my bench again, instead Mcginn will take that place.

I’ve yet to decide what to do in light of the Abraham injury

Good luck all

Transfer summary:  Likely to be De Bruyne to Mane

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 3 seasons were 596k, 17k and 21k

GW13 points: 49 (FPL average 49) Total points 726 Gameweek rank 3,485k, Overall Rank: 432k, red arrow 138k, Team Value: £102.8m

A bad week with 49 points (the gameweek average), which at this moment guarantees you a big red arrow. My fail was in swapping captain from Vardy to Sterling on Saturday morning, 10 points lost which probably would have kept my rank. Oh well…

Other than that, life as usual. Vardy, Jimenez, de Bruyne, Lundstram returning, Leno finding his ways for points despite Arsenal rubbishness, an Liverpool conceding the customary goal which is frustrating.

I see no urgent problems with the team at the moment, so transfers can be more aggressive. I’ve gone Chilwell over Soyuncu hoping for some attacking returns in the coming favourable run of games, Rico making way. And then rolling the dice big with Salah instead of Mane, I know this seems against many fantasy football rules, but sometimes need to look for the fun in the game going alternative, Sterling leaving the team for this.

Captain in Salah. Vardy seems an equally good pick so I might change minds during the week.

The bench is not straightforward either this week, and I will leave there Lundstram, which feels not great but hey, it is the toughest fixture in theory.

Good luck for GW14 Geekers!

Transfer summary:  Sterling out Salah in.  Rico out Chilwell in
