Introduction

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Gw14 review

After a few good gameweeks back to reality with a low score and only three returning players. Given how bad it felt a 6k rank drop is ok. Hopefully my switch to a double pool defence (Robertson and Alexander Arnold) will pay off in the next three gameweeks.

Gw15

My players have good fixtures (and currently a clean bill of health) – with many blanking GW14 (and a few GW13 too) I’m hoping some patience will reap some rewards. Also with games coming thick and fast, it feels sensible to save a transfer for any injuries.

My selection dilemma is whether to start Ayew (BOU), most likely in place of Soyuncu. Captain currently Vardy.

Good luck all!

GW14 review

This week unfortunately was all about some naive FPL play on my part. I may be an experienced Fantasy Football player, but that doesn’t mean to say that I don’t make mistakes and I definitely got things wrong this week! It all hinged on a bad sale of Aubameyang. I’d made up my mind early on that he was going, so I sold him at the start of the week to catch a price rise on Jimenez. I didn’t begin to imagine that Emery would be sacked so soon and when the news broke on Friday morning I immediately regretted the decision. The early sale was greedy one – my OTV is pretty good and I didn’t need to push this week, I’ve probably banked enough for the season now. I guess the only plus side, is that it does leave me with a lot of money in the bank and widen my options moving forward.

In the end the error meant I missed a 13 point haul and was the difference between treading water and breaking into the top 50k. It could of been worse – Vardy’s goal saved me from a significant red arrow and I’ve still got a decent looking squad going into GW15 with some money in the bank. My other major returners were De Bruyne and Alexander-Arnold with Jimenez adding an assist but besides that it was a pretty quiet week with 2 pointers all round for everyone else.

So 4/11 returns (including my captain) and a score bang on the gameweek average. Meh. Thankfully there wasn’t too much damage done to my OR as most of the big returners helped managers outside the top 100k. To emphasise this, my score was actually enough to jump me 2 places up the Contributors League though I’ll count it as a bit of a missed opportunity taking into account where I could have been with Aubameyang’s returns. Let’s see what GW15 brings!

GW15 Team

1 free transfer and 3.2m in the bank for the quick GW15 turnaround. 2 things on my mind this week. First up is my keeper – Gazzaniga. Spurs shipped 2 goals when cruising at 3-0 up for the second league game in a row. Really frustrating! Second up is Mason Mount. It’s only 1 return in the last 7 now for the young Chelsea midfielder so he’s right at the top of my ‘for sale’ list.

In terms of targets for transfers in, my keeper targets would be Henderson or Guaita and my midfield targets are Zaha, Son and Alli. I really like Palace’s fixture run – they’ve got an awesome clump up to GW22 and Zaha seems to be coming into some form just in time for this (and for the cynics out there, right in time for the January transfer window!) I’m also liking the form of the Spurs duo mind though I don’t think an away fixture at Old Trafford is necessarily a good entry point. They could be options for GW16 though and a swap for Tielemans means I’d probably have enough cash in the bank for either.

So I’m going for the midfield transfer rather than the dullard keeper move due to the higher points ceiling – Zaha replaces Mount. Team selection is fairly straightforward this week. Chambers, Dendoncker and Rico make up the bench meaning I’ve got 9/11 players at home. Vardy has almost become a set and forget captain for the moment and he’s bound to eventually blank at some point, but a managerless and injury-ravaged Watford at home is just far too tempting for me – he’ll be my captain this week.

Best of luck for GW15 folks and be mindful of the early deadline – Tuesday at 630pm UK time (rather than 645pm or 7pm as midweeks have often been in the past.)

Gw14 review.

Below the average but really cant complain since I had just 11 points on Saturday that included my captain. Aubameyang finally came to the rescue and Sterling scored but it was my captain who failed me.

I got it all wrong in my transfers. Took Roberto out for button and De Bruyne (10 points) out for Salah (3 points) and captained him! Worse thing is that he had a really really bad game and I hope his form gets better. Luckily Vardy that was a captain favorite only scored one goal.

Gw15

I planned to move to Cahill but he is injured and I don’t want to get Kelly who will drop to the bench in a few weeks again so I moved for Tomkins who also provides an aerial threat. Making way is my worst transfer this year – Maguire. He has given me 3 points in 3 gameweeks.

Lineup.

Pretty clear, Mc Ginn starts and Dendoncker and Rico are benched. Lascelles injured still in my team, hoping next gameweek I will transfer him out finally.

Captain

Planned to give the armband to Vardy but the managerial change in Watford worries me. Short term the change always works in benefit of the team. So I have given it to Aubameyang at home with Brighton. He has scored 2 in GW14 and the fans will definitely support the team and Freddie.

Good luck!

Ben Wooton

Ben’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 61k, 26k and 31k.

Abraham’s drops and the fact I had brought him in late meant he had to go (at least short term).
Based on fixtures and a bit of recent form in comes Ings. Moving early hopefully gains me value as he’s risen since.

Captain feels a no brainer this week with Vardy vs Watford but Ings gets vice for a plum home match at home to Norwich.
Otherwise good to go.

Mounts clinging on in team, also tempted to lose Rico and get Kelly now he’s playing again for Palace. No rush anyway here’s to a cricket score in Merseyside derby with two clean sheets as need them to rocket up table

Take care

Ben

GW14 Recap

A few observations on the last game week before getting into the Gameweek:

•I went for my second -4 of the season and unlike the first, this one did not go well. Mané for Sterling.. Wiff! Robertson for Lascelles.. Wiff! Ayew for Tammy Abraham.. Wiff! .. and a hit 🙈.
Oh well. Mané seems needed and I think I will sleep sounder at night with Robertson in the squad the next 3 weeks.

•Lacazette, Martial, Gazzaniga, Traore, Ayew are my 5 differentials. None returned! I need two to return for a green arrow in my opinion. To be fair Traore and Ayew are essentially bench subs for the busy period so perhaps I only need one to return in this environment.

Game week player analysis:

☆ Keeper

•    Gazzaniga. 2 points. I thought Mourinho was supposed to be defensive..

•    Roberto. This guys isn’t going to play again. I probably won’t waste a transfer on him until I need the cash.

☆ Defenders

•    Alexander Arnold. Huge week. Pretty much everyone has him, though.

•    Rico. Fixtures are sour for a bit. They turn to Gravy again in a few weeks, so I will hold.

•    Söyüncü. No clean sheet this week. Disappointing but they have been doing so well.. it is OK.

•    Robertson. This LFC clean sheet thing is getting weird. I have no problem leaving him for a 4.4M Villa defender in GW18.. I think.

•    Lundstram. Boring week. We need to temper our expectations for this guy. He has already achieved more than we could ask for.

☆ Midfielders

•    De Bruyne. My favourite player to watch. Glad he is in my team.

•    Mané. Blanked but at least he wasn’t my captain. Which he was close to being.

•    Mount. Sold. I was happy to see that he was playing at the 10. However that lineup was very random. No Kante. Giroud. Pedro. James. Very odd lineup. So not only has Mount been cold but I am not    trusting the gametime security going forward. I swapped him to Zaha.

•    Traoré. Another 90 minutes. He is serving his time on the bench for now.

•    Martial. It has not been a good few weeks and the fixtures are not great for two weeks. However he is in all the right areas. He should get points with some patience.

☆ Forwards

•    Lacazette. Very glad I did not captain again this week. This was Aubameyang’s week to brace. Let’s hope it goes back to Lacazette next week..

•    Vardy. Hard not to captain until further notice.

•    Ayew. He will be on the bench most weeks. Maybe I should have gone Jiménez but it came down to him or Robertson and I prefer Robertson in that FPL comparison.

Upcoming GW15

☆ Musical Chairs

Mount ➡️ Zaha

☆ Captain

Vardy. VC Mané.

☆ Substitute decisions

Roberto. Traore. Ayew. Rico.

Good luck.

Well I think thats what we call a disaster of a hit. Of the players I brought in; Son scored a few points and Jimenez got a nice assist as did Targett (benched with 3BP’s) but it was the players I sold that did the damage; Sterling, Pukki, David Silva all returned not to mention the -16. Now, I’m not expecting any sympathy and nor do I want it. This was my decisions to get some fun back into the game and set my squad up for the longterm. Even though the overall rank is far worse, I now love my team and feel well set for the weeks ahead. But the main thing is the enjoyment factor is back. I’m very hopeful of making up the points lost but if I don’t I’m ok with it and that’s a big mindset shift for me. I’m also going with my gut much more than having a FoMo.

So only Alexander Arnold, Son and Vardy returning points (Targett and Cantwell with a combined 15 on the bench!). On a different day it could have been much better with Mane (captain), Jesus and Pulisic all coming close.

On to this week. Zaha comes in for Tielemans. Zaha’s stats are not great so I have my doubts about him but the extended fixture run is incredible and I think he will want a move in January so will hopefully play for that. I watched Tielemans closely today and whilst he is an exceptionally good player, I’m not convinced as an FPL asset. The team looks good from back to front with very few decisions to be made. Vardy captain. Good luck all.
