FPL team tips GW20 – FFGeek contributors show their GW20 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

At the end of each commentary I’ve included a transfer summary.

Joseph Crilley

Joseph finished with an overall rank of 7k last season and 13k in 16/17

GW19 points: 74 (average 59) Total points 1,180, Gameweek rank 973k, Overall Rank: 31k, red arrow 1k, Team Value: £104.1m

GW19 review

When you score 74 points in a gameweek, then you can typically expect a green arrow and a rather sizeable one at that! However, I was surprisingly rewarded with my second successive 1k red arrow mainly due to big scores from Hazard and Salah who were absent from my team. The foundation of my gameweek was built upon braces from Son and Anderson while captain Aubameyang picked up a reasonable 8 points, though it could have been so much more.

Wan-Bissaka showcased his value again and Robertson continues to display impressive consistency; a Liverpool defensive double-up looks a great option from GW22. Though it hasn’t been the greatest December for my team having been ranked 20k early in the month, I am still in a solid position as we hit the halfway mark of the season.

GW20 Team

It is proving an extremely tough season when it comes to deciding which premium assets you should include within your team, mainly because there are so many of them! Most people can include 3 or 4 of the 9/10+mil players such as Salah, Kane, Hazard and Sterling, but the problem is timing when they are in your team. Unfortunately, it’s fair to say that my timing has been poor in recent weeks when looking at my transfers.

I swapped out Hazard for Sané in GW15 with the former scoring 44 points in the five gameweeks since compared to 22 points for the City man. The following week, I then brought in Aubameyang for Salah – the Egyptian promptly punished me with his hat trick against Bournemouth and has picked up two further double figure hauls since then. Finally, I made the panic move to move out Kane for Sterling in GW18 where only my Spurs loyalty has saved me from huge disappointment at watching Kane’s 3 goals and assist since then.

The good news is that players such as Son and Anderson have helped keep my scores respectable, though I have now accepted that I need to show more patience with my premiums going forward. Admittedly, I have elected to transfer in Hazard for Sterling this week, but I now think that my team is in place with the players that I want. I do believe that Aubameyang and Hazard can match their more expensive counterparts in Kane and Salah respectively, though I accept that this will create some nervous watching! This duo is complemented with Sané and Son who provide great value in the City and Spurs attacks, though I will have an issue when the South Korean goes to the Asian Cup.

I have used my other free transfer in order to bulk up my defence by bringing in Digne in a move that may seem like chasing points following his Boxing Day brace. However, I have had my eye on the Everton man for several weeks and I have finally been able to transfer him in ahead of a strong looking schedule for his side. Bennett is the man replaced as I still have cover in the Wolves defence with the attacking force of Doherty and the lack of clean sheets means I’m happy to no longer have the double-up. Looking around the rest of my team, the concerns are Alonso and Wilson whose form have dropped recently, but I still harbour hope that points are around the corner for them.

With City looking out of sorts, Liverpool facing Arsenal at Anfield and no Kane in my team, the captaincy is difficult this week. Son’s recent purple patch and historic home form means that I really should be looking to him, but I can never escape the niggle that Pochettino may rest him at any moment. Therefore, the armband is currently on Hazard who is in scintillating form himself, but I have had troubles with captaining my gamweek transfers recently – hopefully all goes smoothly this time!

Best of luck to everyone this gameweek and may your arrows be green!

Rob Reid

GW19 review

It’s nice to write about a good gameweek again – it’s certainly been a bit of a novelty this season. It’s also nice to finally write about a Transfer In that’s gone well! Step forward Lucas Digne. To be fair, the signs were there with the Frenchman. I mentioned in Player Picks a few weeks back that I liked the look of him as a fantasy asset and the gamble to stick to my guns and go for the Everton defender after their 6-2 thrashing by Spurs paid off with 2 cracking goals. I hope he can keep this form up, but being realistic a defender scoring 2 goals is a flash in the pan so I’m looking more at The Toffees to keep some clean sheets.

So onto the rest of the team. The failures were 2 of my big name players in Sane and Alonso. Sane I’m not too worried about as he’s still getting plenty of chances and getting into good positions but Alonso is a concern now. The other 2 blanks were keeper Patricio and cheap forward Kamara. Otherwise 7/11 returns and a gameweek rank well inside 1 million is very satisfying. Van Dijk and AWB added clean sheets to Digne’s 17 points at the back, Richarlison, Aubameyang and Captain Kane all chipped in a goal each and there was a double figure haul from Eden Hazard.

So for the first time this season I’ve had 3 consecutive green arrows! I just hope the ground isn’t about to drop out from under the feet of my team and that the recovery can continue. Ranking changes are very volatile this season due to the lack of a template team, especially when you’re ranked towards the lower end of the 6 figure numbers. Fingers crossed I can keep this steady improvement up. Onwards to GW20!

GW20 Team

So for the last Gameweek of 2018 let’s look at how the squad shapes up:

Naughty Boy List

Patricio – not enough clean sheets, see below re replacing
Masuaku – cheap midfield filler, gametime and position concerns, change when can for a better cheapie
Kamara – cheap attacking filler, upgrade when can

Watch List

Alonso – not getting enough returns at price point
Fraser – worry over form of club

Possible Buy List

Salah
Ings
Anderson
Watford coverage?
2nd Liverpool defender?

So looking at my list I’ve got a few concerns. On my Naughty Boy List it’s the usual suspects of my 2 cheap fillers and Patricio. I’d really like to get rid of the Wolves keeper, their defence just isn’t cutting it, but I don’t want to burn 4 points to do so. There is also the possibility of now having a playing reserve as Button has a good chance of taking Ryan’s spot over the next few weeks with the Aussie at the Asia Cup. This however doesn’t help me that much as Brighton’s fixtures are as terrible as Wolves through this period. GW22 in particular looks a problem point for my keepers as Wolves face Liverpool and Brighton face City. Masuaku needs to go soon as well, he’s lost his place with Cresswell back and doesn’t look good for any more than 1 point a week max.

The biggest concern for me at the moment though isn’t on the Naughty Bot List, it’s Alonso. No attacking returns since GW11 and only 3 clean sheets in that time isn’t good enough for a £6.9m priced defender. The trade-off is the incoming fixtures, with 5 of the next 6 looking like possible clean sheets and potential attacking returns. Fraser is also becoming a concern. He’s still posting good stats and getting in good positions but Bournemouth’s recent form hasn’t been as good and there’s also Brooks who has been as effective of late and is £1m cheaper.

The reason why I’m prioritising these over those on my Naughty Boy List is that I could really do with the funds that selling Alonso would free up to fund purchasing Salah. But with Liverpool facing Arsenal and Man City next I don’t think I need to make the Alonso move until GW22 at the earliest, so he’s got a bit longer yet. I considered carrying my transfer this week, but with Ryan Fraser facing United giving me the prospect of starting Kamara again, I’ve decided to move the Scot on and I’ve sold him for Roberto Pereyra of Watford. The Argentine has really impressed me in the games I’ve seen him in this year and Watford now have a great run of fixtures.

I then plan to roll my transfer in GW21, giving me 2 for the after the FA Cup weekend. I may sell Alonso that week and use the funds to get Salah in for Hazard, or I might wait a week on that and sort out my troublesome keeper situation. We’ll see. For my team this week, it’ll be 4-4-2 with cheapies Kamara, Masuaku and AWB on the bench. I’ve also put Button in as keeper in case he starts as Everton at home for The Seagulls looks marginally less bad than Spurs away for Wolves! Captaincy looks tricky this week, but I’ve gone with Harry Kane. This looks a nasty gameweek full stop, I’ll be happy to tread water to be honest.

All the best of the last Gameweek of 2018 folks. Have a very Happy New Year and I hope your arrows are green!

Hello guys!

I am happy to be in the top 100k after the half of the season. This was my goal and I am happy to achieve it. With a bit of luck I am hoping to make the top 10k …

One transfer for me this week. Its Schurrle out and Pereyra in. After being subbed and Sessegnon scoring I think Schurrle who hasn’t delivered anyway for me will be benched so with the extra funds I have I am upgrading him to Pereyra. I wanted to get Son HM in but that required me to downgrade Laporte to Targett/ Femenia but during this rotating- festive season I believe that going -4 and having 1-2 players subbed might lead to a big red arrow.

Captain- its Kane and hopefully he delivers big. He has been frustrating all season.

Line up issues – I am currently with Kamara instead of Snodgrass. I might change though.

Good luck to everyone!

Sergio Torija

Sergio finished with an OR of 17k last season and 21k in 16/17

GW19 points: 78 -4 (average 59) Total points 1,053, Gameweek rank 694k, Overall Rank: 721k, green arrow 96k, Team Value: £102.2m

Finally a good gameweek for me 78 points (-4) and a 100k rank rise to 721k OR. This was actually the first week I have broken 70 since the excesses of the opening 2 gameweeks of the season, which says a lot about my season…

I was happy with my moves last week of AWB, Son and Mitrovic in, just the Fulham striker missed a trillion chances, in another day he could have been the star of the gameweek! Kane made all his captainers sweat, but he eventually managed the goal before being rested. The mystery Martial no show was disappointing and raises the doubt whether he will be back for another favourable home game against leaky Bournemouth.

Most likely saving the transfer this week, Lacazette £9.5m in the bench is a waste, but I have no clue who to swap him for. He is likely to go next week in a double move to bring Hazard, just not sure yet which midfielder will make way for that. Hoping events in GW20 will help clarify what to do.

Captain Kane again this week playing Wolves at home, if he gets half the chances that Wolves allowed Mitrovic, a double return is on the cards.

Good luck for GW20 Geekers !
