FPL team tips GW23 – FFGeek contributors show their GW23 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

At the end of each commentary I’ve included a transfer summary.

You can also see Keith Spencers transfers for the injured Kane and Alexander Arnold plus Costas’ wildcard drafts as well as Rob Reids wildcard drafts

Gameweek 22 review:

Well, what a great week. My wildcard was a huge success in my opinion as I gained 24 points this week by using it and sorted out all the problems in my side. Hopefully it’ll gain me even more points over the next few weeks. I’ve decided to keep track of how I’d have played if I didn’t wildcard so I can compare at the end of the season out of interest so I’ll keep you updated on that.

One quick update on the wildcard as well; I ended up making a change on Friday swapping Brooks + Bednarek for Puncheon + Digne based on Geeks’ suggestion so I have to thank him for that as that change gained me 10 more points!

So this week I had 8 returners: Salah 22 (captain), Digne 12, Luiz 8, Rashford 7, Alisson 6, Alexander-Arnold 6, Pogba 5 and Wan-Bissaka 4 who bizarrely got maximum bonus without returning a goal, assist or clean sheet. My 3 non returning players were Kane, Aubameyang and Richarlison. Both Aubameyang and Richarlison I’m happy with currently so nothing to worry about there but of course Kane is now injured so I’ve had to transfer him out.

Gameweek 23:

Transfers:

Unfortunately both Kane and Alexander-Arnold have ended up with reasonably serious injuries so I’ve had to transfer them out for a -4. I swapped Kane for Jimenez as his fixtures are excellent for the next 7 weeks and him and Wolves have been performing well this year. My transfer for Alexander-Arnold was Robertson as I still feel Liverpool’s defence is worth doubling up on and Robertson is currently the top scoring defender in the game.

I took the hit as otherwise I’d play McNeil vs Watford away this week and Wan-Bissaka away at Southampton next week and I think Robertson will most likely outscore those two by the 4 points over the next two weeks seeing as his fixtures are Palace and Leicester at home. Plus this way I’m also saving a transfer in GW25 which depending on injuries etc. could actually be 4 points saved.

These transfers have left me 4.7m in the bank so depending on Hazard’s and Richarlison’s performances this weekend I’m thinking I may switch out Richarlison for Hazard and then stick to a 4-3-3 formation for the next few weeks. The only other option I have in mind is Alli for McNeil but that completely depends on his and Spurs’ performance this weekend without Kane.

Bench:

Wan-Bissaka will be third sub this week with him away at Liverpool. Puncheon will be second sub this with him against Manchester City. My first choice sub was between Luiz away at Arsenal or McNeil away at Watford and I’ve decided to play Luiz away at Arsenal as Arsenal currently don’t seem to be as potent offensively as they were at the start of the season and Luiz has had 2 assists in his last 3 games as well showing some attacking quality. Hence my first sub is McNeil away at Watford.

Captain:

I’ll be captaining Salah once again this week and I feel like this may become a reoccurring theme over the next few weeks as well unless one of Kane or Aubameyang picks up some serious form.

GW22 review

4/11 returns, a shocking transfer plus a captain fail from Aubameyang meant another red arrow for my team. By way of reminder, I had two transfers to use last week and very little idea of how to use them which resulted me in deciding to make a goalkeeper swap. I do feel a little unlucky how this transfer turned out as I took out Fabianksi, who produced an unlikely clean sheet, for Guaita who picked up a first half injury. This resulted in a net loss of 8 points which severely hindered my gameweek and now presents me with an issue in that position.

The main positives in my team were the left-back of pairing of Robertson and Digne who combined for 21 points including maximum bonus for each. Hazard did manage to pick up an assist, but it was a rather lacklustre performance from him and Chelsea, as did Sané during the last match of the gameweek. The performance from the rest of the team was rather bleak which has contributed to the problems that I face for this weekend.

GW23 Team

The main issue is that Son has now flown to UAE for the Asian Cup and will be absent for at least this gameweek, while there is still a lack of Salah is my side. I have therefore decided to kill two birds with one stone by bringing in the FPL star for Son which means I need to look elsewhere to raise sufficient funds. There were three obvious routes: Alonso, Hazard and Aubameyang. The defender would require an additional transfer and I didn’t want to sacrifice anywhere else which meant he was quickly ruled out.

Therefore, the decision was between Hazard and Aubameyang with the decision being made to remove the Arsenal forward due to a few reasons. Firstly, Arsenal face Chelsea and City during the next three gameweeks while I really like Hazard’s fixtures during the same period which includes a trip to his favourite team, Bournemouth. Also, Morata is looking likely to be sold with Higuain replacing him in the squad which could mean there is someone to actually finish off the chances created by Hazard.

Finally, removing a striker means I am able to bring in Rashford who is looking fantastic value under the new manager. I do slightly fear the high ownership of Aubameyang, but I am eyeing up his return to my side in either GW26 or 27.

My additional concerns are Alonso and Wilson who have struggled for points lately with the latter also having injury issues, but other fires in my side mean they remain for now. I may look to move Alonso on next week for a cheaper defender in order to bring in Pogba or a Spurs mid while Wilson will likely be sacrificed for the future Aubameyang transfer. I will be intrigued to see how Spurs line up on Sunday with their absentees as I believe options could present themselves for the upcoming successive home fixtures.

The positive news is that my transfer of Salah means the captaincy choice is easy, especially looking at the polls. Hopefully he can continue his form and I will actually be able to enjoy his goals!

Best of luck to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an 8k OR last season

GW22 points: 64 (average 49) Total points 1,382, Gameweek rank 699k, Overall Rank: 11k, green arrow 1k, Team Value: £104.7m

GW22

64 points this week 15 points above the weekly average, third green arrow with very small movement.

5 returners (for the second week in a row), 2 CS from double up on Liverpool strong defence, a stunning performance from Digne with my 3rd CS+ assist+3 bonus , Salah my captain with another double digit game(4/5 last games and 5/7 last games), now with the 3 bonus with only one return (for the first time this season) after he converted a penalty which was on him, now he is 46% TSB, so maybe 54% of the players are non-active 😊

Rashford gave me my fifth return with a deadly finish from a nice assist from Pogba who was all over the place. Son and Kane couldn’t get points after the heroic performance of DDG who reminded all of us that he is still one of the best GK in the world.   Alonso with another disappointing performance, but as I wrote before it’s not a surprise anymore, I just have bigger problems with my squad as you will see. Deulofeu, my second sub in (the first one was TAA) should have scored or at least get an assist, after a 1 on 1 chance went to the cross bar, and the rebound went to Pereyra who hit the cross bar 2, he looked good and I think that there is more to come there so I am satisfied with that sub.

GW23

So like most of us , I came into this GW with 3 players with big red flags (Kane, TAA and Son)+ a player that he is not really part of my squad (McTominay) , I had only 1 FT but I thought now it’s not the right time for my 2nd WC, as I think I will use it in GW30 as a preparation for GW32 (big DGW) where I will use my bench boost, and in GW31 that can be a big blank I will use the free hit , and for the TC it can be in GW35, but all is subject to the official time table.

Anyway, I decided to do only 2 transfers, Kane and TAA, and leave Son for next GW, as after those 2 transfers I am satisfied with my starting lineup, so it’s not necessary to take minus 8. I really like Liverpool defence, so I went with Robertson (first time for me this season for TAA), I also thought about Trippier but after the absence of Kane and Son, he has less potential to assist.

As for Kane, in regular times it would be an easy swap between Kane to Kun, but after 6 goals from Jesus in one week, you can’t bet on him to start the next 2, after I went with Robertson, I couldn’t bring Firmino who was another choice (it was between Trip and Firmino to Robertson and…) I finally went with Auba (again for the first time this season), although they have a tough match against struggling Chelsea, but I can see him scoring, and next they have Cardiff at Home, so it can be a big explosion. For next GW I have enough money ITB to bring almost who ever I want for Son, so we will see who will be in good shape.

About the armband

No question its Salah again (BTW Rashford can score big this week but I will not bet against Mo)!

Good luck all and have a lot of green arrows!

Mikael Danielsen

Mikael finished 100k OR last season and 5k in 16/17

GW22 points: 82 (average 49) Total points 1,338, Gameweek rank 11k, Overall Rank: 49k, green arrow 40k, Team Value: £105.3m

Had 2FT and made 3 transfers for a -4.

Alexander Arnold, Kane and F. Anderson out
Shaw, Aubameyang and Pogba in.

Was really in doubt if I should take a hit to bring in Pogba, but he was about to rise and if I waited, I couldn’t afford him.

Both Pogba and Anderson are influential for each team. However,  Pogba is on pens and has better fixtures. Also, as everyone’s taking hits this GW it shouldn’t hurt much.

 FPL team tips GW23

Scott Hargadon

Scott finished with an OR of 70k and 21k OR in 16/17.

GW22 points: 68 (average 49) Total points 1,253, Gameweek rank 367k, Overall Rank: 367k, green arrow 95k, Team Value: £103.3m

I continue my seesaw season following a 72k red arrow with a 95k green arrow. Despite quiet from big guns Aubameyang and Kane, differentials Digne and Luiz, as well as a good captain call on Salah made the difference last week.

Now to this week—what a headache. Kane had to go in favour of Rashford, leaving me with 5.8 million to spend. I thought about benching TAA and not taking a hit, but with TAA and Lovren injured and wanting at least one Pool defender, I cut TAA and went for Van Dijk who being .3 cheaper than Robertson, leaves me enough funds to trade up to Sane from Brooks potentially. I knew I would have to take a -4 to use up the difference in cost between Kane and Rashford, so I took it this week instead of next.

Van Dijk surprisingly has scored equally well to Robertson over the last 10 games. Lovren moreover is supposed to be back by the end of the month so I will hold him for the double up on Pool defenders I have been trying to implement.

I am still unsure of Man City assets as ever. With Champions League looming, I am not sure who will play in EPL games and with Mendy returning, the certainty of Sane’s minutes may be in question. The other question I have which no one seems to be discussing is whether it is time to have a City defender again. Mendy will be pricey but worth it if he performs as he did before the injury, and Stones may be value at 5.2 in the coming weeks.

Sometimes I think I will avoid them all and simply stick with players who I know will play—a great example is Felipe Anderson of West Ham—he has nearly as many points as Sane (albeit less per game and per 90 minutes)but in February will not have the Champions League risk. And costs 2.3M less. Something to ponder.

Ings is back from injury this week! Maybe that is sign from the heavens my luck is turning. Ahhh, didn’t think so.
