FPL team tips GW25 – FFGeek contributors show their GW25 teams part 1

Introduction

Note:  this article was written before the West Ham v Liverpool game in GW24

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Joseph Crilley

Joseph’s last 3 seasons OR were 28k, 7k and 13k

GW24 so far points: 36 on TC (FPL average 34) Total points 1,400 Gameweek rank 3,280k, Overall Rank: 25k, red arrow 2k, Team Value: £106.6m

I would prefer to avoid this contribution to the article just being me bemoaning my luck from the last week so I will simply list my own series of unfortunate events:

– Triple captain Mane injured

– Mahrez winning a penalty which was missed

– Vardy injured

– Pereira sold before goal and assist

– Transfer in Robertson getting his first booking of season

– Abraham injured

– Another goal from Jimenez who was sold for Ings the week before

– Ings benched

– Ings coming on for a cameo blocking the assist from Rico

It’s good to get that off my chest, but that’s enough from GW24; these weeks can and do happen in FPL so it’s time to move on while trying not to overreact. I am still in a decent position in the overall rankings although I do have three injury worries in Abraham, Vardy and Mane – all of whom have been key assets in my squad. Fortunately, at the time of writing, it seems as though Vardy is going to be fit for the next gameweek so I am pleased to able to retain him in my squad.

For the others, the straight swaps are pretty obvious with Salah and Jimenez available at similar prices, so I won’t be overthinking things. Ideally, Mane would make a miraculously recovery and a -4 would not be required, but that seems unlikely, so my current plan is to bring in those two popular players. I will not be rushing these transfers though in spite of the constant price changes as I would like to have the maximum information available before making my final decision.

The fitness news will likely decide my captaincy as I am looking to choose whichever premium Liverpool midfielder is in my squad once the Saturday deadline comes around. Southampton have been in good form, but Liverpool are at home and there aren’t particularly any standout fixtures so again, I will avoid overthinking and hand the armband to Salah/Mane.

Good luck all and may your arrows be green!

Transfer Summary: very likely Mane & Abraham to Salah & Jimenez

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 3 seasons were 596k, 17k and 21k

GW24 so far points: 38 -4 (FPL average 34) Total points 1,409 Gameweek rank 2,778k, Overall Rank: 17k, red arrow 3k, Team Value: £103.6m

So far I am getting through double GW24 unscathed. I am at 38 points (-4) and a small drop in rank to 17K. The Alexander Arnold captain working well for now and only De Bruyne, Noble and Aguero to add any significant points. Sarr injury in GW23 meant he was the one to provide the funds for Van Dijk, so it lead me to a double move of  Van Dijk and Fleck in for Evans and Sarr.

I went into this week with the risk of the many Mane and Salah triple captainers doing well. However I was not overconfident on playing the triple captain this week, with two away games for Liverpool, and at least the Wolves one a tough game. Liverpool are certainly doing well, but more often than not they seem to settle for the 1 or 2 goal victory. So given I was not going to triple captain, I decided to go with the contrarian move to the masses and captain a defender, Alexander Arnold. This way I could gain an advantage if Liverpool defence returns, so really hoping for the clean at West Ham.

Moving into GW25, I am just going to bank the transfer. I seemingly got two injuries this week, Cantwell and Vardy, but this week is not a good transfer out point for either of them, particularly with no spare money in the bank. Also the players I am eyeing in their places have tough fixtures this week. In any case, Vardy seems recovered given he was on the bench and came on vs Aston Villa for the EFL cup game.  So that is good for me.

Captain will be Salah, unless something unexpected happens in the West Ham game, vice probably a Liverpool defender. I’ve got a few benching decisions this week, the first one in goal, for now playing Randolph and benching Guaita, and playing Sidibe, Noble and Maupey instead of Fleck, Kabasele and Cantwell. But I will give it some more thought on Friday.

Good luck for GW25 Geekers!

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

GW24 so far points: 33 (FPL average 34) Total points 1,356 Gameweek rank 4,137k, Overall Rank: 138k, red arrow 19k, Team Value: £106.4m

Another terrible gameweek, which will be made worse from any further returns from Salah and Firmino on Wednesday!

My team now contains the injured Abraham and Mane.  Vardy at least came on as a sub in the EFL semi. Currently I’m planning to cover replacements with a points hit. I’ve already pressed the button on Firmino for Abraham and Saint-Maximin (punt differential) for Mane. A safer (and more obvious) move would have been Salah for Mane and Jimenez for Abraham.

My next plan is Maddison to Sterling and Vardy to Aubameyang although I’ve yet to confirm these. Unfortunately I am on the exact money and Vardy is about to fall again. I would be happy to save the Aubameyang transfer for a week so hopefully the price trend will reverses as Vardy came on as sub in the EFL semi as I mentioned above. I expect Aubameyang to become ‘template’ and Firmino to increase ownership (though I expect alongside rather than instead of Salah). Sterling pick is against current form, but hoping I pick him up when he hits form and lightning strikes twice when he plays West Ham in gameweek 26 – the next few weeks will be massive for my team. If any more team news goes against me I may end up wildcarding. Captain currently Firmino.

Transfer summary:  Abraham and Mane out for Firmino and Saint Maximin in.  Also planned Maddison and Vardy out.  Sterling and Aubameyang in

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 8k last season and 1k in 17/18

GW24 so far points: 38 (FPL average 34) Total points 1,296 Gameweek rank 2,740k, Overall Rank: 639k, green arrow 9k, Team Value: £104.6m

Thoughts on Gameweek 24

I stuck with my double gameweek strategy of moving out Maddison to Mane who duly crocked himself after 32 minutes of being in my team. It’s been like that but at least I didn’t triple captain the man as many FPL managers now on suicide watch will be grappling with. Remember your breathing techniques, people. It sounds like Mane is out until gameweek 26 at least. I did triple captain Salah but unless he scores big against West Ham I’m going to need a grandiose late flourish to save the season. Noble got me 7, de Bruyne got me 7, Rico got me 5.

Thoughts on Gameweek 25 and beyond

I’ve gambled on Mane being out, or at least carrying this muscle injury, a bit longer than gameweek 26 and transferred him out now to fund upgrading Greenwood (bench fodder) to Aguero (a rested but explosive GOAT with average fixtures). I brought in Hayden as a playing 8th midfielder in case of rotation. He has great fixtures for a while but my expectation is low. That’s another 4 point hit but I need to roll the dice a bit.

I’ll probably captain Salah, with vice on Aguero. Ings is deep in the naughty corner.

This week’s move leaves 0,5mil in the bank to next week move one of Soyuncu (bad fixtures short term and limited attacking threat), Baldock (I quite like his endeavour so would prefer to keep him) or Lundy (scholars are divided as to whether this would cease to be an impure thought should he be rested again) to Gomez. Van Dijk would be my preferred Liverpool third but he is just out of reach.

I’d like Fleck and Traore when Noble and probably Grealish need to leave, which might be soon. I’m starting to doubt whether Ryan is a season-keeper ‘keeper. Jimenez is on the watchlist.

It’s getting time to keep an eye on potential blank and double gameweeks and formulating a strategy which will inform our transfers in the near future.

Good luck, all.

Transfer summary:  Mane and Greenwood out.  Hayden and Aguero in
