FPL team tips GW28 – FFGeek contributors show their GW28 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

At the end of each commentary I’ve included a transfer summary.

Jordan Sadler

Jordan finished with an overall rank of 76k last season

GW27 points: 43 -4 (average 35) Total points 1,727 Gameweek rank 1,662k, Overall Rank: 1k, no rank movement, Team Value: £106.0m

Jordan has used his 2nd wildcard

Gameweek 27 review:

The gameweek started with late news of Wan-Bissaka’s injury so I decided to take a -4 to bring in Pereira for Digne. It didn’t work out unfortunately as Palace somehow managed to put 4 past Leicester away from home… but I’m not annoyed as I still think it was the right call from a mathematical standpoint. It was generally quite an average week for me. I was rescued by the Liverpool clean sheet as it brought me 18 points from Alisson and Robertson meaning I ended up only dropping 300 places rather than 2000 if United had managed to score. I only had 4 returns: Alisson, Robertson, Doherty and Jimenez but fortunately with it being such a low scoring week it didn’t matter.

Gameweek 28:

Transfers:

The switch around of the Man City and Man United postponed fixtures has thrown me a little bit on my planned transfers. I definitely want to have at least 2 of each team in my gameweek 32 squad so it’s going to require a bit more thought. Right now my thinking is to bring Aguero in for Aubameyang asap as I will definitely want to triple captain Aguero for that gameweek as a Fulham, Cardiff double gameweek is what dreams are made of and that’s looking very likely for 32. I’ll also want to bring in a City defender for that week and maybe even Sterling if I can work out a way to do it without costing myself too many points. As things stand I’ll be holding my transfer for this week unless I get chance to fully think about it tomorrow as I’m a little short on time currently.

Bench:

My subs are Luiz, Wan-Bissaka and Puncheon in that order. I’d expect Luiz to end up playing as Rashford seems to be injured.

Captain:

This week I think I’ll be captaining Salah. I’ll likely look at the polls tomorrow and go with whoever is most captained (assuming I have them) but as of right now I think Salah is a good call against Watford.

Transfer summary:  Possibly Aguero for Aubameyang

GW27 review

On the face of it, if you look at my line-up without taking any of the above into account this looks like a poor week. 4/11 returns, a captain blank and my only double figure haul left on the bench. Should have been a disaster.
The reality is that this actually turned out to be another decent week, which just goes to show what a funny game FPL can be sometimes. I think having 11 players playing and not taking a hit was a differential for starters. My captain blank was irrelevant as unless you randomly captained Deulofeu, nobody really got a captain return. And in a week where the average was 35, 47 points was good enough for a GR of 1m which usually means a green arrow. It’s all relative!
So a quick dissection. Unexpected returns for VVD and Shaw at the back – 0-0 was ultimately about the best score for me in this game. The incoming Milivojevic contributed 9 points in midfield and Jimenez scored his 4th goal in 4 games. The one black mark for me was leaving 10 points from Alisson on the bench versus 3 from the incoming Foster, that late Cardiff goal costing me 4 points. Never mind, you win some you lose some. I guess the take home message is that blank gameweeks often make a nice differential, provided you’ve pre-planned correctly. I need to bear this in mind as I plan for GW33, especially as last week’s fixture announcement has kind of thrown a bit of a spanner into my plans!

GW28 Team

I went into last week expecting a red arrow and I’m kind of in the same position this week. The reason is that despite injuries to AWB and Rashford, I’d kind of like to hold these guys if possible going into GW32. AWB isn’t too much of an issue, but Rashford feels like a bit of a waste. I’ll wait for the Presser on this, but if he’s out for a week he’ll miss Palace and Southampton so basically he’ll only play versus Arsenal away before GW32.  The problem with this is that the fixture announcement for GW32 and 35 regarding United and City means that Rashford is a key player for me if I want to play my Bench Boost in GW32, provided he’s fit. I don’t really want to waste a transfer on selling him now if I need to buy him back again later. Indeed United players, along with those from City and Wolves look like they’ll form the backbone of my Bench Boost team with their fixtures confirmed.
The Manchester derby going into GW35 (rather than GW32 as we thought it would) was also frustrating in another way as it means Arsenal vs Wolves is likely to go into GW35. This means Arsenal players are off the table for my strategy of how I’ll manage the change from Double GW32 with a Bench Boost to a Blank GW33. I’ve got some ideas of how I can counteract this – one is to try and carry my GW32 transfer into GW33, meaning that I effectively need to have my DGW32 team ready by GW30. The other is to rely more on Watford and Palace assets as one of these is still very likely to play a double in both GW32 and play in the blank GW33. The other option is to punt on Chelsea having their extra fixture put into GW32. This would mean probably buying Hazard next week – not necessarily a bad option, looking at his fixtures, but it means I wouldn’t have the funds for someone like Sterling in the double.
The crux of this is that I really would like to save my transfer this week to stay flexible, so that’s what I plan to do. My squad is a little leaner as a result, but I can still get an ok team out with Bednarek having a better fixture, so it’s 3-4-3 but with Bednarek as 1st sub likely to come in for Rashford. Captain this week is a tricky one. Salah is the obvious choice with guaranteed game time, a home fixture and lots of backing in the polls no doubt. He’s not in great form however and Watford are playing well at the moment which kind of throws me off, putting the in-form but risky game time option of Aguero into the equation. I’ll probably make a final call on this around 5pm tomorrow. For the moment the armband is on Kun, but if the polls very heavily favour Salah I’ll probably chicken out and switch to Mo.
Best of luck this week folks and don’t forget it’s a Tuesday evening 645pm deadline. May your arrows be green!

GW27 review

Blank gameweeks often produce bizarre results and that was certainly the case in GW27 with a remarkably low scoring week with the top 6 sides only scoring 3 goals between them. From a personal point of view, I was certainly fearing the worst on Friday night as my differential captain of Felipe Anderson failed to contribute during his side’s 3-1 win over Fulham. I had presumed this would effectively end my hopes of a rare green arrow, but a clean sweep of points for my defence helped edge me over the 50 point barrier which was enough for a rise in rank.

The defensive points included a clean sheet for my late Friday night transfer of Schar who I decided to bring in following the news of Wan-Bissaka’s injury and was therefore replaced in my squad. With Newcastle’s positive fixture run starting with the visit of the league’s lowest scorers and their decent defensive record, it seemed a fairly routine move while it also gives me another player for the blank gameweeks. The other returns in my team came from Doherty and Jimenez combining for Wolves’ only goal along with a clean sheet and two bonus points for Kolasinac and Robertson – Arsenal finally didn’t concede a 90th minute goal! It was blanks for the rest of my attackers, but an 18k green arrow was a pleasant surprise and now I look to planning for the future blanks and doubles.

GW28 Team

My original plan for this gameweek had been to replace the recently out-of-sorts Hazard with a City attacker, but the League Cup final has thrown a spanner in the works as their key men have played considerable minutes, increasing the rotation risk. I still haven’t completely decided on whether I’m using my transfers to bring in DGW32 players or BGW31 players which will ultimately affect my Hazard decision. I currently have 6 BGW31 players which means I can get 10 players purely by using free transfers, suggesting that this should be my chosen route. Right now, I’m leaning towards holding on to Hazard and hoping he can keep up with the City attack over the next 3 weeks as it would take 8 points to move him in and out of my team (I’d like him for GW31 & 33). Given that he plays a hapless Fulham in this time and a Wolves side who struggle for away clean sheets, I have my fingers crossed!

The other concern is Rashford as I write on Sunday night and it depends on the length of his injury – if there is a chance for either midweek or the weekend then I may hold him given my decent bench of Schar and Anderson this gameweek. If it is a more serious injury, then I will likely transfer him out for a player playing 31 and 33, probably Rondon or Barnes, which will confirm my plan to play the free hit in DGW32. So in summary, my strategy is either to hold the transfer or replace Rashford with a blank gameweek striker if the injury is serious.

For captain, I would ideally go for a City attacker or the rested Aubameyang, but if I own neither then I will have to settle for the default option of Salah. He wasn’t great against United, but he typically excels in home games against non-top 6 sides and he does have a great record when facing Watford – another 4-goal haul certainly would be well received!

Best of luck to everyone this gameweek and may your arrows be green!

Transfer summary:  To be confirmed.  Possibly Rashford for Rondon or Barnes

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an 8k OR last season
GW27 points: 48 (average 35) Total points 1,654 Gameweek rank 918k, Overall Rank: 28k, Green arrow 6k, Team Value: £106.1m

Hi guys,

So unbelievable week for me, as I had a record of 35 points in my bench at a BGW – that was the problem with full squad not like others, as 23 points came from Deulofeu, 8 from Robertson and 6 from Shaw, after that kind of stuff, you want to shot straight in your head, funnily add to all of this I had Auba as my Captain who came in 15 minutes to go and gave me 2 points. You would think I would get a big red arrow but somehow I got 48 points, 13 above the average and green arrow from 34k to 28k, thanks to 4 clean sheets (+5 bonus points from Alisson and Kola) and another goal from hot Jimenez. I am disappointed for missing the Deulofeu show and for not lifting my team more in the OR due to the fact that I didn’t prepare my team for BGW31.

Regarding that I still have thoughts weather use my option (“Yaniv’s option”) with WC 30, FH 31 BB 32 TC 35. The main issue here for me is not the early WC before GW32, it’s all about having a decent team for GW33. If I go with the “Traditional option 2” I can have only 8 players in GW31 (I really can’t see this GW as a high score one) or more than 8 with hits, FH in 32, WC in 34 and BB in 35.  Two problems I see here is that I can’t bring in players that don’t have a game in GW31, and that means also City players who has good fixtures between GW 28-30, and second problem is that you have your TC in not a DGW, probably Salah vs a relegated Huddersfield team in GW36.  I think that whatever option you will choose you will have your upsides and downsides, but unfortunately I really can’t decide.

If I would use my option so the normal sub would be Kun for Auba, but Kun played 120 minutes in Sunday and Auba only 15, so if Jesus is available there is a chance he might start finally in a league game, and Auba comes in very fresh for Wednesday, so I will keep him, and keep the chance for both options.

Lineup

Again full squad, again Deulofeu will stay on the bench, he won’t have another 23 points in Anfield, Rashford seems to be injured and if he will be fit he might play as a sub , so he will be out, and Jota is the 3rd sub, again all of my starters has odds to return less than 3, so I hope there is another green arrow.

Captain

It’s between Salah and Auba, very tough call, as I think Auba can shine when he will be more fresh than the rest of the players. it will be last minute call, I hope Kun will finally be rested and is not gonna hit me for the third time

Best of luck!

Yaniv

Costas Chari

GW27 points: 38 (average 35) Total points 1,623 Gameweek rank 2,587k, Overall Rank: 63k, red arrow 3k, Team Value: £103.3m
Costas has played his 2nd wildcard
Nothing much to say about a gameweek where most captains blanked! Having 6 players from the derby meant I was going to have a mediocre team anyway. 3 points above average and a mere 3k red arrow is not as bad as I expected as Son and Aubameyang blanked.
I planned on getting Chilwell in for Lindelof but since he wasn’t even on the bench the other day forces me to move to the next planned transfer that was Lloris out for Heaton. This comes in a good time as Spurs have 2 straight difficult games and a blank. Heaton and Burnley are in great form and have no blank.
I wont take Rashford out for a hit. Will see the return date and if he is not playing next gameweek then I will move him out for King who has a great GW31 fixture.
Captain: I am between Salah and Aguero. I currently have it on Salah for security reasons mostly due to his high ownership.
Transfer Summary;  Possibly Lloris out for Heaton

Finally a green arrow this weekend to stop the horrible run of 4 reds in the bounce in which my rank more than doubled. My week wasn’t spectacular by any means, but at least I got the captain call right with Lacazette, with all other popular captains blanking this week. Robertson and Doherty were my only other two players to add more than appearance points.

For the midweek games we will all get our Man City players back, and I am hoping for a Sane haul after so much patience holding him over the last month. He should start this one. Good fixtures for the rest of my team except a couple of guys playing each other and Firmino likely injured. So in principle saving the transfer this time.

Salah captain

Good luck for GW28 Geekers !
