Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW27 points: 76  (FPL average 60) Total points: 1,879, Overall Rank: 1k, no rank movement,  Team Value: £105.4m

Rick has used all his chips

A green arrow, but only a couple of hundred. My current rank is decent so gains will be always be small. My main focus is trying not to drop too far over the coming tricky weeks now my chips are gone and those that saved them are moving to the inside lane.

Thoughts

I’ve seen a lot of people ditching Salah. Of course it entered my mind after another disappointment, but I have no real desire to get rid. Just as I had no desire to drop Bruno last week. These are the players that punish you when you hop off them. They have huge live ownerships, take pens, are popular captain picks, and can bag a brace as easily as blank in any fixture. Protection against that potential damage is worth the hefty price tag in my view. While they are fit, and I can afford them without the rest of team suffering, they’ll be going nowhere. Even if it means De Bruyne is off the table for now.

GW28

I have to use at least one of my two free transfers to move towards a decent team for GW29 as I currently only have 7 starters. Rudiger and Lowton will likely be the ones leaving over the coming weeks to make way for a couple more. Though Stones (50/50 starter and a blank in GW33) is also a potential for the chop.

I’m torn between two tactics at the moment. I could just swap in two cheap defenders and field 9 in GW29. With luck, that might be enough to keep pace with the Free Hitters and allows me to stash a transfer to help in GW30 when many others are Wildcarding. Or I could downgrade Pickford to Forster to raise funds and use all available FTs (and maybe a -4) to field a stronger team that could include the popular Cresswell and Dallas. Bearing in mind Pickford was only brought in for my Bench Boost, and at some point I need to reclaim that benched cash anyway, doing it now when it gets me more desirable players for a tough week kind of makes sense.

Transfer

I’m unsure as to what route to take so my best move is to leave my options open and bring in Veltman for Lowton. He’s ticks all the boxes for me right now. He’s cheap so maximises flexibility next week, seems to be nailed, and has a good fixture in GW29. After that, he’s perfect for the bench.

Captain

Close call this week, and I might switch, but I think I’ll go Fernandes. Kane vice.

transfer summary:  Likely Veltman for Lowton

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an overall rank of 3k last season and 4k in 18/19 and 8k in 17/18

GW27 points: 63 -4  (FPL average 60) Total points: 1,784, Overall Rank: 55k, red arrow 18k,  Team Value: £106.3m

Horrible DGW27 for me, big red arrow from 37k to 55k. Gambling on Son for Bruno went wrong, plus not like others, Shaw stayed at my bench. Top 10k never seemed so far away. Already brought in Bale for Barnes , I will tweet today my final team

transfer summary:  Bale in Barnes out

Here’s the points from GW27:

Kev in Canada

Kev finished 48k last season 6k in 18/19 and 195k in 17/18

GW27 points: 81  (FPL average 60) Total points: 1,742, Overall Rank: 158k, green arrow 39k,  Team Value: £105.5m

Important: Free Hit will be used in GW29.

I carried the free transfer forward and will need to use two so that I don’t lose one with the free hit. That won’t be a problem, as there is plenty I could do.

Now that the bench boost is over, using one of the frees for moving Ederson down to Forster to put 2.1M into the starting 11 seems the sensible thing to do. So one transfer will be used there. I would have just done it already for the sake of the photo, but figured it is Thursday already and I may as well wait for the Europa matches to end. We did get the Villa presser already which helped with any Martinez news I guess. It is also worth noting that I think Forster will start going forward. However, even if he didn’t, freeing up all of the 2nd keeper funds will be a benefit vs other managers that don’t wildcard soon, as most will just leave the money on the bench.

For the rest of the transfer, the plan originally was to take a hit and move Barnes and Barkley to Son and Saka. However there are a few items to ponder with that:

1. Why take a hit before using the free hit chip? One of the benefits to using the chip is gaining on peers as they use countless hits for the 3 weeks before and after the blank. If you don’t use the chip next week, add up all your hits from game weeks 26 to 33 and bring that intoconsiderationfor next year. I bet the range of point hits for serious teams for those weeks are somewhere between 8-20 points in total. Some will try to trick themselves into only counting the hits going into 29 which is fine but if a hit from another week was used to bring in or out someone playing in 29, I think they are just tricking their egos (similar to bench boosting with Mo and Bruno on the bench).

2. Spurs blank in 33 and I can see people dumping Son then. I only need him until then and I will have him for 29 anyways in the free hit week. I don’t have a wild card and will lose a transfer during the free hit week vs everyone else so a longer term asset may be better.

3. I am realistically never going to captain Son while I have Kane.

4. Saka fixtures are sexy and he looks amazing this season. However Arsenal are favouring Europa now and Saka’s form has cooled off lately.

5. While Saka is cheap, he will be my 8th attacker and often a benching headache. I would like to avoid that now the bench boost is done. Again, getting money off the bench will be a differential I reckon. I could go even cheaper to Willock at 4.7 or Tella at 4.3m. That money will upgrade elsewhere nicely.

So I think I will go a different way. Besides, everyone is focused on 29 and skipping better players with their transfers to hit in Brighton and Fulham players. This is an opportunity to get a good long term asset that doesn’t play in 29 and hopefully gain ground.

THIS TRANSFER IS PIVOTAL

There is a fork in the road while I free up this bench money and I can go only one way: 1. Squeeze in a fourth premium or 2. Upgrade the defenders and find a mid priced gem in midfield.

I am going to start with the Premium option: ultimately here are no premiums that don’t play in 29 that I want. I have Kane Bruno Mo. Im not playing hokey cokey with them. Been there done that and have the t-shirt.. and the scars. My view on KDB is he is elite but the form of that team is volatile, whichever player that is in form is even more volatile, they blank in 33, and they pretty much have the league wrapped up with Champions League knockout starting next week. I would also need a hit for him. Enough reasons? I think there are good cheap City options there that won’t upset me as much if they rotate. Gundo (even deep Gundo), defenders, etc. I think owning only 2 City is the way I want to roll for now to keep flexibility still an option for after GW33.

So mid tier, midfield gem and upgrade D option: There are a few different players that have great fixtures coming up and don’t play 29: Mount, Kai, Jota, Neto, and maybe even Zaha. Really I am debating between Jota and Mount. Both look good and have a great fixture run. It is a tough one. Clearly Mount is the public’s favourite. However when pool played RBL in CL, one thing stood out to me. Fabinho is back in midfield. Game changer. I also think Jota won’t be owned by anyone really as pool form is so bad. I think that could change any minute though and with BOBBY INJURED, Jota could benefit greatly. Also, Jota gets me 0.4M more to use elsewhere than Mount. So I am leaning Jota.

Captain: Kane
Vice: Bruno

Good luck.

Transfer summary: Likely EDERSON and BARNES to FORSTER and JOTA. With 2.5M left in the bank to spend on the other side of GW29…

Here’s the team assuming the above transfer is made:

FPL team tips GW28

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 4 seasons overall rank were 64k, 45k, 40k and 23k

GW27 points: 45  (FPL average 60) Total points: 1,561, Overall Rank: 1,699k, green arrow 269k,  Team Value: £104.4m

Rob has used his Free Hit chip

A disaster of a gameweek! Pretty much not owning Kane killed me this week. Plus leaving Bruno on the bench didn’t go according to plan as he finally delivers in a big game. It’s just not my season this year, nothing seems to go right for me. I need a big finish in the last few gameweeks to try and salvage some kind of rank.

Onto this week and I’ve got 2 free transfers. I am only targeting GW29 players still and I am abandoning the Man City double defence. Cancelo is rotated too much and his attacking returns just aren’t there so I will be removing him for Dunk. For my second transfer I am in 2 minds; do I bring Bale in this week for Salah or next week? My patience has worn thin with Salah and Bale is on form, but I see Salah scoring against Wolves, so I am going to wait until the Europa League fixture tonight to decide – if Bale starts I keep Salah, if Bale is rested I will bring him in this week. I will look to bring Salah back possibly in GW32 when they play Leeds and I will do that through Son.

Captain is either going to be Salah if I keep him or Bale if I bring him in

transfer summary:  Likely 2 transfers.  Cancelo out and Dunk in.  Salah out and Bale in

Here’s my team before any transfers
