Introduction

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

GW2 review

A really fun gameweek to watch, lots of goals and plenty of incident. It’s weeks like this that sum up why we love Premier League Football so much. From an FPL point of view, it was very much a yo-yo week for me that hinged on a transfer I made on Thursday night when having weighed up the pros and cons I moved Son out for James Rodriguez. At 230pm on Saturday I was tentatively thinking I had made a good move. Rodriguez had a superb game against West Brom and had bagged a 13 point return to add to DCL’s hat-trick. At 2pm on Sunday however it was a different story and I wish I had listened to fellow contributor and Spurs expert Joseph Crilley who had suggested to me on What’s App that Son was worth another week.

When I get a decision wrong, I try to focus on the process of making the decision. Initially this seemed a sound call – Spurs were terrible in GW1 and Son was pretty anonymous. However hindsight is a wonderful thing and Son is a streaky player who was facing the high line of the Saints defence the next week. Sure enough he cashed in a brilliantly so – fair play to contributors Keith, Yaniv, Stephen and co. who stuck with him this week; well done folks! So I’ll learn my lesson and watch Son from behind the sofa against Newcastle this weekend, but also take the consolation that it could have been worse as I saw a large number of managers in the FPL Twitter Community who had swapped Son for Rashford or Fernandes. And I have the other consolation that I now have a nice 2.5m in the bank for upgrades.

As for the rest of my team, well again I managed to leave points on the bench again – 2 defensive assists this time! But there was a first clean sheet of the season for my team through Trent to add to DCL’s haul and at least Walker-Peters managed 3 points in Southampton’s capitulation. Captain Aubameyang did manage an assist, but otherwise was fairly quiet so in the end it was a fairly ‘meh’ gameweek that could have been great. Onwards to GW3 then!

GW3 Team

1FT and 2.5m in the bank.

First up an easy first transfer. I’ve moved Aubameyang this week for a CIty player – he was transferred out for Kevin De Bruyne after the Wolves v City game on Monday night. Having owned him for all of last season I’m pleased to say welcome back Kevin!

I’ve also got some other fires to put out in my team. My defence is struggling, but with clean sheets at a premium in GW2 I’m not in a hurry to make any changes here and burn -4 on a low ceiling player. I’ve got issues in my front 7 though – I’ve got a red-flagged 5th mid after Bissouma was red carded. I’m not worried here, he’s bench fodder anyway. I then have Soucek as my 4th midfielder who has a tricky fixture run and Adams who despite having plenty of chances has frustratingly failed to find the net. I’ve also got Werner on 1 assist in 2 games, but I’m not worried here as he’s got West Brom next.

I’m keen to target Wolves fixture run so I’ve got a couple of options for a -4 here – Soucek could become Podence or Adams could become Jimenez. Either looks a good move – I’m slightly favouring Jimenez at the moment due to his gametime security though I’m wary of transferring out Adams as he’s got a nice GW4 fixture against West Brom (though Wolves do have Fulham that week also.) I’m going to mull this one a bit, especially as there’s a small doubt on Wolves fixture with West Ham posting 3 positive Covid tests on Tuesday so I might accept any price changes and just make this move on Friday when the fixture is confirmed either way. Whatever I do, I’ll post my final team on Twitter on Saturday morning as usual.

So for my team this week, I’m leaving one of Soucek/Walker Peters and Mitchell on the bench along with naughty boy Bissouma. I’m leaning towards playing Soucek but obviously he becomes Podence if I transfer him in and of course he would then start. The Captain’s armband is on Werner with Chelsea taking on a West Brom defence that has the worst xG against in the league and is the joint worse (along with Leeds) for shots in the box conceded. What can possibly go wrong?! All the best for this week folks – I wonder if it will be as explosive as last?!

transfer summary:  to be confirmed

Avishek Majumdar

Avishek’s last 3 seasons are 13k, 45k and 64k

GW2 points: 48 (FPL average 59) Total points: 118, Overall Rank: 1,944k, red arrow: 1,100k Team Value: £100.0m

GW2 review:

So a last minute transfer of Davies to Keane turned out profitable in an otherwise underwhelming GW with 48 pts, which led to a 1.1m drop in OR down to 1.9m. It was all about whether you owned the Spurs and Everton attackers really and unfortunately I didn’t have any. 4 returning players isn’t the worst but neither got a massive haul to prevent the rank drop. Although the OR is of little significance at this point, I would hope to climb my way up next GW.

GW3:

So moving onto GW3, I moved early to catch the price changes which isn’t ideal with so many midweek games. Aubameyang to De Bruyne was always the planned move, but Ward-Prowse dropping and also losing his penalty duties to Ings meant I had just enough to move him out for Foden, who looked impressive in Man City’s opening encounter. Man City is expected to score a lot of goals again this season, and Foden seems to be great value at 6.5m, even if he occasionally comes off the bench.

Captaincy is a bit tricky this week with all of Salah, De Bruyne and Werner as potential candidates. I would ideally prefer someone playing at home for the armband, but Werner seems to be playing the worst defence out of the 3 and arguably one of the worst defences in the league which is causing the dilemma. The armband is on De Bruyne for now who is facing a depleted Leicester city defence at home, but it could change to either of the two close to the deadline. I would keep an eye on the Geek captaincy poll as well before taking a final call. Hope you had a great GW 2 and all the best for GW 3. Cheers!

Transfer summary: Aubameyang to De Bruyne, JWP to Foden (-4)

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 313k last 8k in 18/19 and 1k in 17/18

GW2 points: 57 (FPL average 59) Total points: 127, Overall Rank: 1,256k, red arrow: 412k Team Value: £100.0m

57 points from Gameweek 2 was very disappointing after a decent first gameweek. I suffered as a result of zero Spurs and City cover and Egan’s red. I turned off the TV after about 13min of the Villa game with a quiet and dignified calm rarely exhibited in my FPL career. I can’t say I watched much of this weekend’s football but I did see Everton’s attack being very attractive, many penalties including some logic-challenging new interpretations from VAR, and Southampton and Newcastle defenses looking poor. Man United were horrible.

I’d committed to not kneejerk the wildcard early this season and so far I’ve managed to resist the urge to overhaul my now average-looking team. I was interested in a single transfer like Egan to Digne or Saint-Maximin to Foden or Podence and ride out the storm but ultimately I stuck with my original plan and moved Aubameyang to De Bruyne and also did Egan to Digne for a hit. Taking a hit so early does not feel great and seals Egan’s fate as my first disaster of the season, with associated locked in points loss (of -2 + -4 = -6). The team does look reinvigorated as a result though.

Aguero being out for an extended spell has me very interested in Jesus. Also on the watchlist are Saiss, Podence and Jimenez (great fixtures), Chillwell (now un-flagged), Calvert-Lewin (form and fixtures), Barnes (maybe later) and Foden. The amount of penalties being awarded suggests that having penalty duties is a far more significant criterion for bringing in a player than last season, and that clean sheets will be harder to come by. Time will tell but it may be that funds are better distributed further up the pitch.

It seems there is a lot of knee-jerking happening in FPL right now. I can see some making big gains as a result but also many seasons being ruined this gameweek by managers impatiently wildcarding in short term assets. Exercise caution.

I trust that one of Wan-Bissaka and Saint-Maximin will play. Captain and vice will be between Salah and de Bruyne.

Transfer summary:  Aubameyang out to De Bruyne in and also Egan out to Digne in

Here is my gameweek 3 team after the transfers:

fpl team tips GW3

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 4 seasons overall rank were 64k, 45k, 40k and 23k

GW2 points: 53 (FPL average 59) Total points: 91, Overall Rank: 4,286k, red arrow: 232k Team Value: £100.0m

I have made 2 early transfers this week which breaks my golden rule of no early transfers but the prices fluctuating has forced my hand.

Ali not playing actually helped me during the game week but now has to go. I’ve decided not to go straight to Son because Spurs have a lot of travelling this week so may be tired come Sunday. Instead I’ve gone for Rodriguez. Saves me 0.5 and he is looking good on the pitch.

Egan’s red card was hard to take but it was good to see Burke getting 90 minutes and playing striker – as a 4.5mil midfielder he could be the ultimate differential this week against a dodgy Leeds defence.

My original planned transfer was always going to be Aubameyang out for a Man City player and I was planning on going for Sterling, however De Bruyne’s performance in the Wolves game has swayed me to go for him because he could hurt my team even more by not owning him!

I am keeping an eye on Wolves as their schedule is very good. Jimenez, Podence and Saiss are on my watchlist.

Summary: 2 transfers for -4 points
Ali, Aubameyang OUT
Rodriguez, De Bruyne IN

Captain: De Bruyne
