GW2 Review

Another great GW with 88 points.

7 out of my 11 players returned points.

Sanchez (6) kept a clean sheet. Team mates Trent (12) and Tsimikas (11) went one better and added an assist as well. Greenwood (10) scored again as did Ings (8). West Ham assets Antonio (16) and Benrahma (12) hauled again. Michail returned a brace and an assist whilst Benny returned a goal and an assist for the second GW running. The less said about the Salah © and Bruno the better.

GW3 Plan

Needless to say, I am very happy with how my team is performing.

There aren’t really many transfers I fancy doing and if I could I would, hold the transfer. With the International Break looming I would like to have 2 transfers to play with for the players return. That is of course still to be decided at time of writing (Wednesday).

Tsimikas has been fantastic for me and has returned 17 points in two GWs. But with Robertson waiting in the wings, it is time to move Kostas on. I am keeping my three cheap way rotation at the back and getting in Southampton’s Tino Livramento who looks decent. Livramento, Ayling and White offer a strong and cheap rotation until GW20, meaning I can focus my transfers on my attacking players.

Transfer summary

Tsimikas to Livramento

Looking forward I plan to give Ings one more GW before his fixtures turn for the worse then move him on to Calvert Lewin in GW4 who has strong fixtures and is on penalties.

Captaincy

Antonio is on fire and has a good fixture home vs Palace. He will get my armband.

GW2 Review:

Another decent GW for me. 76 points and an OR of 253K. Hopefully I will keep improving my rank going forward.

Captain Salah didn’t go to plan (damn VAR) but also didn’t hurt me since Bruno blanked as well.

In the next part I will talk about short and long term thoughts:

My Squad’s Weaknesses:

Veltman – will be unavailable until after the IB and who knows whether he comes back into the starting lineup then. Replacing him is a priority.

Tsimikas – has done an amazing job for me but as Robertson is back I guess Tsimikas is doomed. I do expect him to play every now and then but nowhere near enough to justify holding a Liverpool slot. However, his price and the fact I don’t plan to bring another Liverpool player in the near future enable me to hold this decision for the time being.

Barnes – can just copy-paste what I said about him last week. Another horrible performance. He has an amazing fixture this week however, which should suit his play style as well, so I have a difficult decision to make here.

Ings – another meh performance by Villa. Another goal from Ings (what a worldie!). He also faces a difficult run of fixtures starting next GW so considering his price tag I might let him go soon.

Watchlist:

Benrahma – an attacking midfielder for the great looking Westham with favorable fixtures. Although his output in the first 2 games is clearly not sustainable, he is a very good option imo.

Raphinha – talked about him preseason. A very good player in an attacking team, but traditionally he underperforms his Xg and Xa. Will monitor to see if this changes.

Son – for me, it was better for Son if Kane wouldn’t stay at Spurs. I know many disagree with me and there are statistics that show otherwise, but I believe that being a striker and on many set pieces could more than compensate the drawbacks of missing Kane’s presence. Nevertheless, Son is still a premium asset with only a semi premium pricing so I may make a move on him if an opportunity arises.

Grealish – I see many people ignoring him because of rotation risk, but I think he should be one of the most nailed on attackers in City. The real question, for me, is whether he keeps playing in an attacking role or drifts deeper once the missing players are fit again. Will monitor.

Dele – another player who should suffer (fantasy wise) from Kane staying in the club. The very low price tag in relation to his potential however, might make him a bargain, with or without Kane.

Lukaku – a total beast. Should score plenty this season but this offering comes with a price. As explained previously, I usually don’t like to own more than 2 premium players and (for the time being) I’m not willing to lose Salah or Bruno.

Calvert-Lewin – one of my favorite players. Seems like he continues his great form from the previous 2 seasons and he also has favourable fixtures in the near future. I may make a move on him very soon.

Adam Armstrong – I was very impressed by his goal vs. Everton. He also has a pretty good record in previous seasons. At a price of 6.0 I’m sure he will get into the template at some point.

Bamford – is quite ignored this season, probably because of his price and the alternative that his teammate Raphinha suggests at a much lower price. Leeds’s next fixtures are very appealing and if Bamford manages to improve his finishing, he should present decent value for money.

Gray – was very lively and scored a goal vs. Leeds. Could become an interesting option.

Transfers:

As explained above, Veltman is the most urgent problem to fix for me. As I have 1.5 ITB I could consider many options. The leading candidates were: Spurs’s def, Brighton’s def, Ayling, and Dias. I like my defenders to have an attacking potential so I chose Reguilon. Spurs has 2 good fixtures next and seemed pretty solid defensively. I think he has a haul potential and hopes it materializes soon.

I was leaning to keeping the other FT for the IB, but after some deliberations decided that Benrahma’s appearances as opposed to Barnes’s, are just to difficult to ignore. Even though Barnes’s next fixture is Norwich, I just can’t see him scoring and even not sure he starts. So I pulled the trigger and will deal with the IB when I have to. I’m also not disregarding the GW4 WC option.

Captain:

Very difficult decision this week. Salah faces a solid Chelsea so I will not be captaining him.

There are a few interesting options out there but for me it’s between Antonio and Bruno Fernandes. I am currently leaning towards Bruno but I may go with either, and will take a final decision just before the deadline.

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 249k, 41k, 17k and 1k

GW2 Points: 73  (FPL average 56) Total points: 174, Overall Rank: 304k, green arrow: 12k  Team Value: £100.4m

Another decent, if unspectacular, week. But a useful week for identifying early trends and shaping thoughts on my team.

With two free transfers available this week, my intention had been to use only one and roll the other – it’s always useful to have two coming out of the international break.

However, I have issues in my squad that need addressing. First and foremost, I’m in severe danger of having only two starting defenders: White and Veltman are out, and Tsimikas will likely be benched with the return of Robertson. So a new defender is a priority.

The other issue is in the midfield and specifically Harvey Barnes. Not only has he not returned in either of the first two gameweeks, but on both occasions he was subbed around the 70th minute. And he did not look good on the eye test either – seemed a little unfit. Meanwhile, players in his price bracket – Benrahma, Raphinha, Jota – have all shown form. Now obviously Norwich away is a terrible exit point. But I would kick myself if I hold onto an out of form player for too long, and I have no interest in watching others continue to capitalise on the form of an increasingly template, and cheaper, midfielder in Benrahma. So I resolved to change the plan and use both frees this week and that was the first one made.

The second transfer was a tougher decision. I made it just before Veltman dropped in price. My options were to switch to another £4.5m defender, go super cheap (Livramento being the choice here), or going up to the £5.0m range. Nothing in the cheap bracket really appealed to me and I want to attack the early part of the season. So in the end I brought in Coufal. He has some excellent upcoming games and I like his attacking instincts. Unfortunately, it does leave me with only £0.3m in the bank, and I’m worried about being priced out of my intended gameweek 4 move of Ings to Calvert-Lewin: I may need to act very soon after this week’s deadline in order to do it. Not ideal.

I don’t like going away from premiums when it comes to captaincy, but I think I may do so this week. Antonio has the form and the fixture, and it’s a good week to go for someone different.

Best of luck to you all!
