FPL team tips GW30 – FFGeek contributors show their GW30 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

At the end of each commentary I’ve included a transfer summary.

Jordan Sadler

Jordan finished with an overall rank of 76k last season

GW29 points: 40 (average 40) Total points 1,816 Gameweek rank 3,303k, Overall Rank: 4k, red arrow 1k, Team Value: £105.6m

Jordan has used his 2nd wildcard.

Gameweek 29 review:

Another red arrow for the fourth gameweek in a row, I’m now down to 4k from 1k in GW25. Only 3 returns this week so maybe I should feel lucky I only dropped 600 places but it seemed to be a tough week for all so can’t complain too much. My captain Sterling blanked (as did most other people’s captains) and my only returns were Jimenez 12, Alisson 8 and Robertson 5. This double Liverpool defence has definitely helped keep my rank from dropping too far these last 4 weeks as that’s 4 weeks in a row for Liverpool clean sheets. It is just a shame that’s coincided with 3 blanks from Mo Salah who only has 1 return in his last 6 gameweeks now.

My Pereira transfer in has been been a massive fail with him producing 2 points in his past 3 gameweeks versus Digne’s 12 in 2. But I don’t feel bad about it as I still think I made the right decision statistically speaking unlike my Sterling/Silva decision a few weeks back which I’m still bitter about. As for the rest of my team, even though it was all blanks bar Wan-Bissaka who was 2nd on my bench, I’m pretty happy with the squad as it’s quite well set up for GW32 to say I don’t have a wildcard to use.

Gameweek 30:

Transfers:

It was a very boring transfer this week from me. Decided to go Puncheon to McNeil in preparation for GW33 as Puncheon seems to be out the Huddersfield team and McNeil seems to now be established in the Burnley team. I’m using my free hit next week so don’t really need to be concerned about GW31 and then in GW32 I’ll likely take a -4 to bring in Aguero.

Bench:

Simple enough sub picks for me this week. McNeil has Liverpool away so he’s unsurprisingly third and then my two Wolves assets have Chelsea away so benched both of those as well. Pereira has Fulham at home so if he’s ever going to get a clean sheet it’s now and Wan-Bissaka has Brighton at home so I think both have better chances of returning than Jimenez and Doherty.

Captain:

This week I’ll be captaining Sterling again I think. Salah was really off his game last week against Everton and under normal circumstances I’d captain him but can’t trust his form at all at the moment and I think Burnley are better defensively than Watford. As always I’ll see what the polls say but I’m expecting Aguero to be top so Sterling is my best alternative to that.

GW29 review

What a strange gameweek – 3 points was a strong score from your captain and it felt like I did well to only have a single score that was less than 1! I somehow escaped with a green arrow which was mainly due to my transfers being a success for once. My transfer plan mainly concentrated around Sterling so I could captain him, but it was the man who was brought in to give me sufficient cash that was the star of the show. I had decided early in the week that I wanted to bring in a West Ham defender for Kolasinac and I had semi-settled on Diop as he was the cheapest option. However, on Thursday night (after an evening in the pub…) I ended up going for Rice as I fancied his out-of-position prospects for only 0.2mil more.

A goal, clean sheet & 3 bonus points later, and it’s fair to say that I’m happy with how things unfolded, though I do feel very fortunate. My other returners were Robertson, Hazard and the value man Jimenez who continues to be a great source of points. The only slight disappointing thing was benching Digne who surprisingly kept a clean sheet against Liverpool, but overall it was a decent result from GW29.

GW30 Team

Moving on to GW30 and the big blank gameweek is just around the corner now which is certainly a focus for managers like myself who are looking to activate the free hit in DGW32. Ideally, I would hold the transfer this weekend so that I have two to play with next week in order to give myself maximum flexibility heading into the blank. Looking around my side and their fixtures, it certainly looks possible as I quite fancy their prospects with strong fixtures for the likes of City and Liverpool.

However, an awkward situation has developed in goal as my keeper Guaita had to settle for a place on the bench in his last match. There has been talk that this was a one-off tactical decision, but it does raise a concern as to whether he will be starting this week. Therefore, I am looking to turn this uncertainty into a positive by updating my 4.0mil keeper from Button to Boruc who has started the last 7 gameweeks with a PPM of 4.0. This will give me extra cover this week while Bournemouth also have decent fixtures in the BGWs of 31 & 33 which are at home where they have been surprisingly solid.

Given the aforementioned good fixtures for the league’s top 2, it is a straight fight between Sterling and Salah for the captaincy this time around. The armband is on the former as I slightly prefer the City fixture given Burnley’s 2019 improvement while Sterling has shown stronger form in the last 5 weeks. He is still somewhat of a differential as well which hopefully presents an opportunity to climb the ranks!

Best of luck to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

Costas Chari

Costas finished with an OR of 29k last season and 27k in 16/17

GW29 points: 42 (average 40) Total points 1,737 Gameweek rank 2,783k, Overall Rank: 44k, red arrow 2k, Team Value: £103.4m

Costas has used his wildcard

Gameweek 29 could have been better, could have been worse. Captain choice and Salah & Aguero blanks did not leave me any chance of getting a green arrow. I am getting a bit frustrated with Felipe Anderson as well but will hold on to him as he has a GW31 fixture. Heaton hasn’t delivered as well and he is on the “out” list once I get a chance.

Lindelof out and Chilwell in. The latter has better fixtures and a GW31 fixture. Lindelof has Arsenal and a blank so its a no brainer.

Captain- again a very difficult choice between Salah and Aguero. I currently have it on Salah due to gametime assurance mostly and I think a big point haul is just around the corner. Will see the polls though and decide.

Lineup- if Puncheon was a consistent starter I would have started him instead of Barnes. But I am taking my risk with Barnes even though he has a difficult fixture.

Alex Ball

Alex finished in 17k last season 10k in 16/17 28k in 15/16 and 3k in 14/15

GW29 points: 33 -4 (average 40) Total points 1,594 Gameweek rank 4,839k, Overall Rank: 674k, red arrow 121k, Team Value: £105.8m

Alex has used his triple captain

So it’s been a while since I wrote anything. My season has gone from bad to worse, partly through bad decisions, partly through poor management. In someways it’s refreshing as the pressure is off now but more of that in the end of season review!
Onto this week. I’m aiming for a FH32, WC34, BB 35 strategy so aiming for players that can play in 31/33. With this in mind it will be King in for Rashford. I would have been happy to keep Rashy for another week but I’ll be taking a -8 to get 11 out for the doubles and needed the 0.1 I’ll be losing if he drops as he’s projected to do.
Kun will be capo this week. Good luck all.
Transfer summary:  Rashford out and King in

Sergio Torija

Sergio finished with an OR of 17k last season and 21k in 16/17

GW29 points: 42 (average 40) Total points 1,523 Gameweek rank 2,815k, Overall Rank: 1,544k, green arrow 4k, Team Value: £101.2m

Sergio has all his chips available

Another poor average week for me with 42 points and somehow a tiny green arrow. Nothing really worked, but at least the 2 players I transferred in provided some points, Hazard as captain and Barnes with a 90th minute goal that was a big relief to not have WanBissaka in my bench with 12 points.

This week is the last calm week before the chip season starts and most of my players have in paper excellent fixtures. My team is well setup for blank GW31 with 9 players plus the 2 free transfers from now to hopefully make an 11. I currently only own 1 GW31 defender, so this week transfer is used to bring one more. Having looked at the games in GWs 30,31,33 (I will free hit 32, so not to bother), the best defensive fixtures are for Bournemouth, who actually have been decent at home lately. So with budget not being an issue at this point, I’ve gone for Ake in place of Doherty. I don’t care about the money tied up in Doherty since I was not looking at playing him in any of the weeks until I play the wildcard in GW34, so I keep Bednarek who uses less value in the bench.

Captain Salah for me, surely he has to do something against Burnley at home

Good luck for GW30 Geekers !

transfer summary:  Doherty out and Ake in
