Introduction

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Contributions were received on Thursday but the scores should be for the gameweek end from Livefpl.net

GW32+ Review

After the disappointment of last week, it was good to bounce back this week with a welcome green arrow, my first since the restart. This was mostly due to healthy Captain haul in a split Captain week – always a satisfying result as you can be as calculated as you like on these but sometimes the element of chance can bite you in the backside.

The week started slowly with only 11 points from my 4 players in the Villa v Wolves game. Doherty banked another 6 here, but there were blanks for Grealish, Jimmy and Jota. I wasn’t too disappointed about Jimmy – he was probably the best backed Captain in the split amongst the Top 150k managers, but Jota was a real let down again. He blew a great chance just before half time and then joined the 59 minute club in the second half leaving me with the ignominy of just a single point. More on Jota later.

I then sat nervously through Saturday night and Sunday, hoping that key players didn’t get injured in the FA Cup. Bruno’s 120 minutes on Saturday night were a concern, but it was nice to see my Captain Aubameyang benched on Sunday with his Wednesday game against a hopefully tired and injury riddled Norwich defence beginning to look tastier. Before this though we had to sit through another Danny Ings Troll Show and then watch nervously on Monday night as Transfer In Nick Pope somehow hung on to a clean sheet against Palace for a 9 pointer.

The fun began there, as Fernandes then rewarded my -4 last week to bring him back with a 15 point haul in the Tuesday game which also included helpful blanks for Rashford and Martial. It then all finally went very right on Wednesday as Aubameyang became Aubame-yeah with a 32-point Captain haul which halved my Overall Rank in one fell swoop. De Bruyne then finally chipped in with his usual returns on Thursday night to finish things off.

It’s been very much a chalk and cheese 2 weeks. It looked initially like my -4 last week to bring back Jimmy and Bruno was a hasty move and was going to cost me in the long term. But I’ve always been a believer in hits when you’re bringing in a player who can do well over a few weeks and so it’s starting to prove as the -4 also allowed me to bring Pope in this week for free for another 7 point swing. Hopefully these moves will continue to bear fruit…and guess what, I’ve got another hit planned for this week!

GW33+ Team

My Plan A when I looked at things back before GW30+ was to Free Hit this week, the last week in the first of the 2 blocks I’d divided the rest of the season back into. I now think though that I’m actually better to Free Hit in GW34+ as my team is less suited to the fixtures there. So for this week I need to use up my free transfer but also look at tidying up any problems so I’ve got a decent team in GW35+ as well. I’d then plan to carry my GW35+ transfer, use 2 in GW36+, carry in GW37+ and then have 2 frees left for the final GW (which is usually a bit random anyway.)

So looking at my team, I have several problems. First up is Diogo Jota. He’s a good player, but the way he’s being used at the moment doesn’t fit with fantasy football returns. Essentially, he’s being used as a busy subsidiary forward for an hour to wear the opposition defence down, before being subbed to allow the explosive pace and power of Adama Traore to provide the cutting edge in the last 30 against a tired and more open backline. He also doesn’t look settled in front of goal. His miss against Villa last week was symptomatic of a striker low on confidence. I used to player as striker myself (albeit a very average one in a very average amateur league) and when you’re in form you’ve got the composure to finish those off; when you’re not you snatch at it and that’s what he did.

Then there’s Grealish. 3 weeks and no returns with Liverpool away up next. Villa have looked much tighter since the restart but that doesn’t bode well for Jack going forward. He’s a sell. Then there’s The Lord, who’s injured possibly out long term. He’s a sell too, but I’m not in a hurry here as I’ve got enough defence cover at present. Then finally, what do I do about Aubameyang? My plan had been to sell him to free up funds this week but do I sell when he’s just bagged a brace?

In the end, Jota just has to go first of all and Greenwood’s performance on Tuesday has convinced me enough that he’ll at least start against Bournemouth at the weekend – he’s in. At 4.3m he frees up a chunk of money and I don’t feel so aggrieved about him having managed minutes at this price. This then frees up a couple of million for my -4 and I’m going to shift Grealish out as I believe over GW33 and 35 combined either Martial or Pulisic minus 4 will score higher than the Villa Captain.

The question is who to get in. Martial gives me triple United moving forward. It’s a kind of all-in move, but the fixtures are super and Bournemouth next is very juicy. You’d think The Cherries will play differently at Old Trafford to their home defeats against Palace and Newcastle, but with Eddie Howe – who knows? His tactics against Newcastle in particular were horribly naive, but Wolves did find them tricky to break down when he set them up in a more compact way back in GW31+. I do worry about their defence though against United’s pace and Fernandes and Pogba should dominate in midfield. If United score in the first half hour, I suspect it will end up 4-0 or 5-0.

As for Pulisic, it’s Watford at home this week. He looked lively versus West Ham though his xA and xG were actually very low, with both his assists coming from fouls to set pieces. I’m not 100% convinced on him still but think he’s an exciting player to watch and does give me cover in another game. Opponents Watford haven’t the worst defence but interestingly do actually rank worse than Bournemouth for Shots Conceded since the restart so could be in trouble if Chelsea get up a head of steam in this.

I’m going to mull this into Friday night I reckon, but at the moment I’m leaning more towards Martial. For my team, Liverpool have the Captain favourites this week so I’m on Salah. I’m hoping they won’t rotate from the City game in their first home match as Champions but if Klopp suggests this might happen before the deadline, I might switch to Bruno. Assume Grealish is Martial or Pulisic in the team pic – I’ll Tweet on Friday night for Saturday morning with my final decision.

Best of luck for GW33+ folks.

Transfer summary;  Likely Jota and Grealish out for Greenwood and Martial

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 84k, 29k and 27k

GW33+ points  66 (FPL average 50) Total points 1,919 Overall Rank: 48k , no rank movement, Team Value: £102.9m

Costas has used all his chips

In the end a my rank stayed the same at 48k.  I don’t have De Bruyne so it would have been remarkably improved if he had been quiet

Captain choice was wrong in Martial but I’ll live with it.

I took a hit for next week. I really wanted Cantwell and Calvert Lewin out. I had £1.5m in the bank and unfortunately couldn’t just make the Cantwell to Pulisic transfer so I did 2. I got Nketiah in that will fill my bench mostly.

Future transfers will includes Lascelles out for Aurier and much later on Pulisic out for David Silva who I think will get to play the last 3 games after 10 years at the club

Captain this week will be Salah. The golden boot for a 3rd consecutive year is something he stated that he wants.

Good luck

Summary:  Cantwell and Calvert Lewin OUT Pulisic and Nketiah in

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

GW33+ points  72 (FPL average 50) Total points 1,907 Overall Rank: 66k , green arrow 11k, Team Value: £103.6m

Kris has used all his chips apart from the 2nd wildcard

I’m on a wildcard for GW33+ this week as planned, needing to catch up after a poor FH team and what looks like a poor GW32 as well.

In my current draft (written on Wednesday morning) I’ve decided to compromise on my man United assets by going double defence, allowing me to get Jesus and Foden into the team for Man City run. Will be keeping a close eye on the injuries prior to completing the team on Saturday. Captain Salah, vice Alexander Arnold.

Transfer summary:  On Wildcard

Stephen Troop

Stephen’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 43k, 52k and 64k

I won’t be making the transfers until tomorrow evening I expect, but am reasonably sure on my moves so can give some short commentary and my team pre-transfers.

A semi decent week where I rose to around 50k from 115k after Tuesday night from captain Fernandes. Currently back down to 77k after Wednesday night. Hopefully I can at least hold ground tonight as that’d still make it a good week. Still gutted Pope went for Foster on the wildcard as that, along with my restart could have really boosted me in mini leagues where I’m quite far behind.

I have 2FT. My main concerns are Sarr and Calvert Lewin at the moment. They just haven’t picked up where they left before games were stopped. It’s not bad luck either, their underlying numbers are poor too.

Pulisic has caught my eye. He has struggled with injuries/getting into the team but since football has returned he has looked very lively, producing good underlying numbers and returns. Chelsea also have decent fixtures. So Sarr to Pulisic looks likely. To fund this Calvert Lewin will be downgraded to Greenwood who has also been excellent. With United’s fixtures he could be a steal provided he can hold his place.

I have £1.7m to upgrade by 5th midfielder or 4th defender should Greenwood lose his place. Given cash isn’t tight I’ll be waiting for tonights games to finish before committing. The image below is pre-transfers.

Captain this week is golden boot chasing Salah at home to Villa. Fernandes vice captain (although certainly tempted to captain him given how poor Bournemouth look).

Good luck all

Summary:  Likely to be Sarr to Pulisic and Calvert Lewin to Greenwood

Not sure on transfers but Aubameyang to Nketiah or Greenwood will happen and then a combo of Mahrez and/or Martial will come in for Barnes/Douglas Luiz (I’ve put Douglas in this time as I didn’t make it clear on the pod haha)

Transfer summary:  Aubameyang to Nketiah or Greenwood.  Martial and/or Mahrez for Barnes and/or Doug Luiz
