Introduction

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

The contributor write ups were written before the Spurs v Everton game but the points and overall ranks are after thanks to livefpl.net

Scott Taylor

Scott finished with an overall rank of 1k last season and 12k in 17/18

GW33+ points 77 (FPL average 49) Total points 2,028 Overall Rank: 13k, green arrow 6k, Team Value: £104.6m

Subject to any injuries in Spurs v Everton tonight, no transfers this week as I’m carrying the free transfer over to next week so that I have 2 before planning on using my free hit in GW36.

Captain decision likely to be between Son and Fernandes. At the moment it’s on Fernandes with Son vice. That could swap round depending on Son’s performance tonight.

Whether to play Aurier is the other decision. Again, tonight’s game will certainly have a bearing on what I do. I’ve no idea who I’d drop for him – perhaps Doherty but that’s based on nothing but gut feel.

Enjoy the week everyone.

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 1k, 30k and 2k.

Considering the scoreline of some of the Saturday matches this week, you wouldn’t have thought this would end up being a disappointing gameweek. I’m looking at a 7k rank drop right now with only Aurier left to play, so I’m not expecting that to improve greatly – if at all.

Transferring in Martial worked out really well, but once again it was my failure to pick the right captain that largely led to the drop. A last minute Salah assist meant my captain choice wasn’t a complete failure, but there were some very popular players who scored big and simply owning them wasn’t enough to get the benefit. Throw in a De Bruyne benching, a lacklustre Wolves performance and an out-of-character Pope blank and you have yourself a very meh week.

Man U

The big news is Man United’s performance. Every attacking option delivered the goods and the value that 4.5m Greenwood offers is now borderline irresistible. With great fixtures until the end of the season there’s no reason to think that the points won’t continue from the four key assets – it’s just trying to guess who the goals and assists are most likely to come from.

Of course I already have three Man United assets, so to get Greenwood in I’d have to lose Maguire. He’s scored me a solid 13 points since I recruited him in GW31, which isn’t bad at all, and he surely has more clean sheets in him considering the remaining fixtures. He’s always a goal threat from corners as well, which is why I (wrongly, apparently) picked him over Wan Bissaka in the first place. In short, it doesn’t feel the most sensible way of using my two FTs.

Transfer

I’ve done a lot of mulling in little time and, all things considered, I won’t be getting Greenwood this week. His value is undeniable but I’m sure he won’t start every match and, when he does, he’ll be getting hooked off around the 60-75 min mark. Obviously, that doesn’t matter when he’s just 4.5m (and he’s proven he can do damage no matter the minutes) but using two transfers to get hold of him rubs me the wrong way. Especially as I already have decent Man United representation. They won’t all score every week and I’m pretty confident I already have the best two attacking options in Bruno and Martial.

Besides, I feel Foden is more essential this week. And again, he’s insane value. With both him and De Bruyne being on the bench for the loss on Sunday, you have to assume they will both start on Wednesday. Those two could do double digits against Newcastle and I want a piece of it if they do. Saint-Maximin to Foden was an easy move on Sunday night before the price increase.

I’ll be rolling my other transfer unless there’s some news that forces me to do otherwise. If Greenwood starts and performs again in GW34 then I may be forced to rethink and, reluctantly, use two transfers next week to bring him in for the remaining fixtures – I’d likely do that by switching Maguire to Azpilicueta.

Bench

My biggest issue this week is who to bench. Lascelles and Nketia are obvious, but the third spot is between Aurier, Calvert-Lewin or Maguire. All have good fixtures and could potentially score well. I’ll have to wait and see how Aurier and Calvert-Lewin perform tonight, but right now it’s the Everton forward who’s sitting out.

Captain

I have the captain chip on De Bruyne at the moment. Bruno Vice.

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

Disappointing gameweek score of 60 and a rank drop following a wildcard. Keeping the faith in my selections and rolling my transfer. I fear not owning Spurs players against a very poor Bournemouth; hoping Eddie Howe finds a magic formula from somewhere. Team is very heavy Manchester and Liverpool – I’ve put Jimenez on the bench but will switch with Pulisic if I find out he’s benched from early team news. Captain De Bruyne and vice Jesus. Good luck all.

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 45k, 40k and 23k

GW33+ points 54 -4 (FPL average 49) Total points 1,962 Overall Rank: 84k, red arrow 25k, Team Value: £102.5m

Rob has used all his chips apart from the triple captain

A last minute captain switch from Martial to Salah completely backfired and I should have stuck with my gut! But I felt it too risky to go against the majority this week as Salah was such a massive captain pick.

Bruno Fernandez is killing me..not owning him is just destroying my rank and I have to hope for points elsewhere just to break even! So I have gone against my own rules and made an early transfer..Salah OUT Bruno IN! This transfer was made as soon as the final whistle went on the Liverpool VS Villa game. As a result I had bags of money in the bank!

I will be making another transfer to remove Fernandez who plays Man City. Not sure on who to bring in but I was thinking of Laporte. Another option might be Dawson as Watford play Norwich at home. This will be one to ponder!

Summary: 1 transfer confirmed – Salah OUT Bruno IN. 1 transfer TBC (4 point hit will be taken)

Captain: De Bruyne

I have a team selection issue, as one of Greenwood, Jimenez, Deeney (Norwich), or Pulisic need to be first sub. With that being said, I will roll the free transfer.

It isn’t an easy benching decision, as they all have a reason to be included. I think I may have to bench Deeney on form even though he plays Norwich but for now it is Greenwood, as he doesn’t play 90 min regularly so its a slim tiebreaker. Whoever it is I end up putting as the sub it will probably be a mistake. What can you do.

As soon as I saw the team sheet for MCI/SOU and saw De Bruyne was rested, I moved the armband to him for the upcoming week. You could make a case for Bruno’s form but Villa look to be playing their hearts out. If Mings is injured I may move it to him. Salah vs Brighton and Son vs Bournemouth are other options on fixture but they both have lukewarm form.

Captain De Bruyne
Vice Fernandes

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 8k last season and 1k in 17/18

GW33+ points 76 (FPL average 49) Total points 1,888 Overall Rank: 335k, green arrow 80k, Team Value: £101.9m

I’ll likely go Saka to Foden and go 3-5-2 with triple Man Utd and triple City attack. It feels a bit all or nothing and my defence is sketchy but I don’t have a lot to lose with only 5 gameweeks to make something of the season. I’m positive about this move since Foden didn’t start in GW33+ so he has a good chance of starting GW34+. Saka’s closing fixtures don’t fill me with confidence and I doubt I’ll miss him. Lundstram to Walker was my second choice but Foden’s higher ceiling will probably seal the deal. I’d like to have Son for GW34+ but I’ve been burnt by Spurs too many times. Bernardo Silva was my cheap alternative to Mahrez, who I couldn’t afford, and although he’s not impressed I do hold hope that when City do click he might get a few assists. Abraham and Jota were bad choices on the unlimited transfer restart and would be gone if I had more transfers or funds.

Kevin de Bruyne will probably be my captain as he also did not start GW33+ and will likely start GW34+. Fernandes looks a great alternative captain so he’ll probably be my vice.

Good luck all!
