Introduction

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

The contributor write ups were written before the Villa v Man Utd but the points and overall ranks are after thanks to livefpl.net

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 2 seasons overall rank were 17k and 1k

GW34+ points 73 (FPL average 59) Total points 2,077 Overall Rank: 31k, red arrow 3k, Team Value: £103.8m

The main issue I have with my team is a structural one: specifically, I have too much money tied up in underperforming forwards, and not enough funds invested in midfield, which is currently where the form and value is found. I am prepared to take a hit to remedy this.

Jiménez and Calvert-Lewin have outdone each other recently in putting forward their cases for the axe. However, since I will use Greenwood to free up cash and already have two other United players, it will be Rashford that departs the squad. I just think that the value for money that Greenwood offers is too much to resist.

Therefore, I am leaning towards taking a -4 to swap Rashford to Greenwood, and using the funds to move Saka to Mahrez.

With some very tasty fixtures coming up, I want to load up on the City attacking assets and in doing so am prepared to risk the Pep rotation roulette. They are easily the most attractive offensive outfit in the league at the moment. Mahrez seems to be playing with confidence and has seen decent game time recently.

The other option was Pulisic and although this is very tempting, I can’t help but thinking that the ship has already set sail, what with Chelsea’s relatively tricky remaining fixtures. That said, he will certainly be part of my GW36+ Free Hit 36 team.

Another tricky captaincy decision this week. It’s between Salah and Bruno. I currently have it on Salah because if you’re not prepared to captain a £12.8m premium player at home to Burnley, then why have that £12.8m premium player?

Good luck to you all!

Transfer summary:  Likely Rashford out and Greenwood in

At this point I have no idea what colour arrow I’m going to receive this week. It’ll largely come down to the Manchester United match tonight. What I do know is that captain De Bruyne was a disappointment considering the number of goals in the match. Though, again, I won’t know exactly how disappointed I am until Bruno plays this evening. I was never really considering Salah this week, so I’m just happy with owning him over Mane.

The red for Nketiah and an injured Lascelles mean my bench is looking too weak for the randomness that could take place over coming weeks, so transfers are needed to firm it up. If only there was a decent sub 5.0m forward I could switch him for…

Transfer

So, predictably, Greenwood will be coming into the team for GW35 (barring an injury or red card this evening). That means I have to lose Maguire to free up a Man United slot. A decent choice looks to be Digne as he has good fixtures until the end of the season. Of course, his performance this evening might change my thinking completely.

Bench

This team really does give me bench issues. Lascelles is the only obvious choice. It looks like Foden is starting every other match, so he’ll take a bench spot in the hope that some sort of pattern is being stuck to. Then I suppose Spurs’ clean sheet potential against Arsenal is dicey, so Aurier will likely sit out. I have a decision to make between Pope and Martinez as well.

Captain

As I write this, I only have to wait about nine hours until I know whether I’m punished again for not captaining Bruno. If I am then I may have no choice but to captain him against Southampton. Frankly, it’s costing me big in my main cash mini-league because the Man U fans are leaning on him every week.

Really, I’d like to captain Salah. There’s lots of talk about it being his turn to be rested, but with the Golden Boot in sight and records waiting to be smashed I’m hoping he’ll be on the pitch taking as many shots as he can.

Transfer summary:  Likely Nketiah OUT Greenwood in Maguire OUT Digne in

Here’s the team assuming those transfers go ahead.

Rob Reid

Rob’s last 5 seasons overall rank were 148k, 94k, 22k, 4k and 7k

GW34 review Free Hit played

Well I don’t think I could have done any worse on my Free Hit! A massive backward step in the ranks, some bad 50/50 calls that went wrong (Mane over Salah for an 18 point swing was the worst), 11 points left in position 1 on the bench and to rub salt in, a score around half of what I would have had with my original team. You win some, you lose some and it’s definitely the loser tag for me this week.

Yep it’s fair to say that GW34+ will go down as one of my worst ever in FPL! We talk a lot among the contributors about playing style. Geek is a very patient FPL player, he takes few risks and does everything he can to mitigate any major ones. Compare this with Keith or Costas for example who are happy to take risks and gamble on higher differential players. What I’ve definitely realised this week is that this risky Free Hit strategy this week was very much out of my comfort zone in terms of my playing style and that I am a much more risk-averse player than I thought. Lesson learned.

So instead of angling towards the top 20k, my aim now is to try and see if I can eke out a finish in the top 40k. And the other thing to remember is perspective. FPL is a game and there are bigger things in life. I went out for a long walk with my dogs in the Yorkshire Dales this morning and on the drive over I listened to an interview on BBC radio 5 with Ben Mee about all the challenges he’s faced during the lockdown period regarding the premature birth of his daughter. It was hugely inspiring listening to him and a reminder to keep this measure of perspective. There’s a lot going in the world at the moment and a bad week in FPL is nothing more than an inconvenience in comparison.

Sorry if that was a bit philosophical folks – I’ll move on!

GW35+ Team

I’m in 2 minds what to do this week now. My first idea was to move Vardy in for Aubameyang, but the Gabon striker has hit some form. This would be a fixture-based move, with Vardy at Bournemouth and Aubameyang away to Spurs. Having watch Bournemouth v Spurs tonight though, part of me actually fancies Arsenal’s fixture more! My ideal would be to have both, but I can’t do that without removing Jimenez for a hit and I don’t think that’s worthwhile.

So I’m going to mull this up until the Saturday deadline as there’s no pressure money-wise. Alternative options are to sell Jimmy for Rashford this time, or to change Lundstram for a United defender but I’m not really 100% on any of these. If I can’t commit to anything, I’ll just carry the transfer with a view to moving Jimmy in GW36 for Ings and retaining Aubameyang to the end of the season. I’d then use the spare cash to try and bring in some more City cover somewhere – could do Foden for Douglas Luiz, though this would leave me with a dilemma of which attacking player to bench each week.

Captain this week looks interesting – plenty of options. Salah looks a good shout, as does Bruno Fernandes. I’ll probably go with Mo unless the polls say there’s another clear favourite.

Best of luck this week folks!

Transfer summary:  To be confirmed. Possibly will carry the free transfer over

I write this midway through the Villa United game, and so far it’s been an ok week rising about 10k places before tonight’s games. It’s been a challenge to make much ground in the top 100k, and mini leagues as there’s a lot of similar players doing well that most people have.

I have 2 FT and I want to do Jimenez to Vardy for a short term punt with Bournemouth up next. Jimenez’s underlying stats are awful, even if it is over a short number of games, and I feel his returns so far for me since the restart have been lucky. Not sure if it’s me but Wolves seem to struggle playing multiple times a week. They struggled during their stint in the Europa League too. If I want Vardy I need to swap Lascelles or the goalkeeper to save 0.2m with what I have in the bank. Alternatively I’ll swap Vardy for a cheapie and upgrade Douglas Luiz to Foden. Captain I’m unsure of. Salah feels the most logical choice at the minute, but him, De Bruyne or Fernandes could all get it.

Good luck all
