FPL team tips GW37 – FFGeek contributors show their GW37 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

At the end of each commentary I’ve included a transfer summary.

It’s a bit early this week due to my other commitments today but I’ll try and retweet any updates from the guys.

Joseph Crilley

Joseph finished with an overall rank of 7k last season and 13k in 16/17

GW36 points: 91 (average 69) Total points 2,219 Gameweek rank 883k, Overall Rank: 33k, green arrow 2k, Team Value: £103.8m

Joe has his Bench Boost left.

GW36 review

It was a very high-scoring week last time out, best demonstrated by the fact that my Friday night red arrow was in spite of 2 goals from my captain and a clean sheet along with an assist from my double-up on the Liverpool defence. Alas, the lack of triple captain chip mean it was ‘only’ 42 points from my red contingent which wasn’t enough in the context of the Salah and Robertson hauls along with the sheer number of chips used. My team rebounded somewhat over the remainder of the weekend with goals from differentials Vardy and Ward-Prowse along with the ever reliable Jiminez. In the end, it was a total of 91 points with returns from 7/11 players, but surprisingly this only gave a green arrow 1k – hopefully holding onto the bench boost will help make up ground on those who have now used all their chips.

GW37 Team

The squad is fairly ready for the chip to be used in GW38 with the only major concern being Dunk who faces City on the last day, but that is a problem which could wait until next week if need be. Jimenez facing a trip to Anfield looks problematic but his record against the top sides and high ownership means I’m more than happy to keep him for the duration. Therefore, with three transfers to use over the final two gameweeks, I am able to make a couple of luxury transfers during the final run-in.

The players that are on my mind to be removed are Vardy and Eriksen; the former has been in great form, but a trip to City this week makes him a potential transfer out though I do fancy him against a Rudiger-less Chelsea in GW38. The safe option would be to finally bite the bullet and bring in Aguero – it is rather scary not owning him when looking at various captain polls. He would need to be complemented by a cheaper midfielder who would likely be Redmond or Babel. The more adventurous option if removing both Vardy and Eriksen would be to bring in Hazard and Rashford who both have a juicy pair of fixtures while being reasonable differentials at my rank.

The alternative route is to target United’s promising fixtures by bringing in Pogba for Eriksen and holding onto Vardy who does have a great record against the top 6 sides. Having said that, I could get a little clever and remove Dunk this week for Shaw or a Palace defender which would allow Vardy to be benched for the City game. My main concern here is the lack of form for Pogba, although he did bag 28 points during the reverse fixtures against Huddersfield and Cardiff despite showing no form beforehand. A good tactic has been targeting the Terriers, so I am fairly likely to bring in a United player which therefore heavily depends on the fitness of Rashford.

With no Aguero in my side, the captaincy decision becomes fairly easy as the home record for City means that I will be going for Sterling. He actually has a better home record than Aguero so perhaps not owning the striker will be a blessing in disguise! I would be tempted to captain Hazard if he came in, but I am leaning to the Pogba move as I write, though it is all rather up in the air curerntly!

Best of luck all and may your arrows be green!

Transfer summary: to be confirmed but likely to be Eriksen to Pogba then save 2 for GW38 BB

Rob Reid

Rob finished with a rank of 94k last season 22k in 16/17 4k in 15/16 and 7k in 14/15.

GW36 points: 88 (average 69) Total points 2,156 Gameweek rank 1,115k, Overall Rank: 102k, green arrow 4k, Team Value: £103.5m

GW36 review

A bit of an odd week! 88 points usually gets you a fairly healthy ranking rise but in a mark of how bizarre this GW was in terms of ranking effects, 6/11 returns and a double figure captain selection was only good enough for a 1.1m overall GW rank and thus only a small green arrow, nudging me only slightly closer to the top 100k.

Things were looking good after Friday night with the only slight negative being that I went for Mane over Salah as captain – in the end the 6 points net difference this made was probably the difference that stopped my overall ranking from going into 5 figures at the end of the week for the first time since GW4. Only my 2 Wolves players returned on Saturday, though I’m certainly not going to complain about 19 points combined from Jota and Jimenez. Only 1 returner on Sunday sadly with Aguero getting 9.

I think I was prevented from a bigger ranking rise by the effects of firstly the 2 Liverpool full-backs, especially the 14 points from 37% owned Robertson compared to my Liverpool defender Van Dijk who only got 6. Then there was Wilson’s 16 points – he’s still got 18% ownership so does hurt a bit and finally the City clean sheet – Ederson and to a lesser extent Laporte being the players that do the damage here.

The bottom line is you simply can’t cover everyone in this game, even higher ownership players and sometimes you’ll just get a week where many of these players score well so your ranking will stay fairly static. The important thing I guess is that I had some of these covered rather than overly chasing differentials. In the end I can’t complain about another green arrow (that’s 12 in the last 15 gameweeks) and I should be grateful I’ve not seen a significant drop – unlike what I was getting earlier in the season! 2 weeks left then, let’s see how GW37 goes!

GW37 Team

A tricky week to negotiate I reckon. The standout fixture from an FPL point of view is probably Huddersfield v United and the percentage player in me says I should be covering this somehow. I’ve got Rashford, but he’s yellow-flagged and there’s no other appealing attacking United player at the moment with their form having gone off a cliff in the last few weeks. My head says I should just play safe and bring Pogba back in, but his stats have been terrible of late so it doesn’t feel right.

There are a few other nice fixtures but they come with their own problems. Chelsea and Arsenal both have good home fixtures but both have Europa League semis on Thursday so who knows what will happen with their team selection, especially Arsenal. Next up to consider is the early game on Saturday – a few weeks ago you’d have predicted an easy Spurs win, but their form has dropped somewhat and Bournemouth, well they could produce absolutely anything! Spurs may also rotate their team somewhat as despite losing to Ajax, they are still very much in their Champions League semi-final tie – will Son be rested in preparation for example?

Then there’s Liverpool and City who are both chasing the title. Newcastle away looks a pretty tough ask for Liverpool in my opinion. They’ll certainly be deflated at the Barcelona result where they actually played pretty well but demoralisingly got beaten 3-0. Add to this what will be a fairly hostile trip to the north-east against a tough Magpies outfit and I’m not 100% convinced the title race will go to GW38, as much as I hope it does. That leaves the City fixture at home to Leicester. If Liverpool don’t win at St James’ Park, then I’d expect a City procession on Monday night. If Liverpool do take 3 points, it could be exactly the opposite – Leicester have already beaten The Citizens this season and are in good form. I expect Jamie Vardy in particular would relish playing the City defence under these circumstances.

So the crux of this is I haven’t got the faintest idea what I’m doing with my transfer and I think much will depend on the outcome of the United presser and any news on Rashfords’s injury. If he’s fit, I’ll probably carry my transfer. If he’s injured I’ll sell him, but I’m not sure for who. The best option to me actually looks like someone like Wilfred Zaha – he has 2 decent fixtures to finish the season and should be gametime secure with Benteke injured but it’s not a transfer that desperately excites me!

For the rest of my team selection, I’m going for Ryan over Foster in goals – hopefully he’ll get some save points if nothing else. I’m then going to bench my Saints pair and Dunk. For captain, I’m going with Aguero – he looks like he’ll be the leader in the polls.

So more questions than answers and much to ponder. There’s also the annoyance of it being a Friday deadline as well – this is always a bit of pain for me as I don’t finish work until 7pm so am reliant on getting a break in the afternoon to catch up on the news – not always a given for me! I’ll try and tweet my final team on Friday evening if I can, best of luck everyone and may your arrows be green!

So if Rashford is injured, either just Zaha in or Rashford/Son to Zaha/Pogba

or

Son/Rashford to Hazard (c) and Lorente or Long

If Rashford is fit maybe a Duffy replacement.

Sergio Torija

Sergio finished with an OR of 17k last season and 21k in 16/17

GW36 points: 98 on BB (average 69) Total points 2,024 Gameweek rank 484k, Overall Rank: 592k, green arrow 129k, Team Value: £101.0m

98 points on the week, gameweek rank inside 500K and a green arrow of 130K. Good all that, so another good week pointswise, but again it didn’t feel too good because of my decision to swap the use of bench boost with triple captain last week. At least I made the best captain call bringing in Salah over Mane, but that was in combo with bringing in Firmino who missed the game. The bench boost return was poor with only an assist from Murray on top of the appearance points. Of the rest, Spurs disappointing, while as usual City and Liverpool defences did well.

The next gameweek is sandwiched by the Champions League semifinals, with my team maxing out in Spurs and Liverpool players, I can’t rest assured on rotation. In particular Eriksen and Firmino are perhaps the more vulnerable ones. Firmino was on the bench, so hopefully should start on the weekend. Then looking at Eriksen out for a simple swap to a City mid or Pogba. Haven’t yet decided which one.

Captain Salah for now.

Good luck for GW37 Geekers !
