Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 4 seasons were 2k, 596k, 17k and 21k

GW6 points: 57 (FPL average 48) Total points: 353, Overall Rank: 795k, green arrow: 187k Team Value: £100.6m

Sergio has not used any of his chips yet

I had a decent week with a small green arrow despite missing on captain (Salah). The line-up looks solid for the next one, so saving my transfer. Captain Kane over Salah, another 50-50 week

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW6 points: 39 (FPL average 48) Total points: 350, Overall Rank: 882k, red arrow: 349k Team Value: £101.8m

GW6

A week I’m happy to see the back of. There have been some real peaks and troughs this season already and, apparently, I can’t have a good gameweek without the following one hitting me square in the face with a flan. Essentially, if you owned Bamford you had a great week. Outside of that your level of success largely came down to how many clean sheets you kept and where you placed your captain chip. I had no Bamford, captained wrong and left two of my 3 clean sheets on the bench, so my rank has tumbled accordingly.

You’ve got to take a week like this on the chin. The team that scored me 82 points last week hasn’t suddenly become bad. Clean sheets being wiped out in the final minute, posts hit, goals disallowed by the tightest of margins… on another day things could have gone very differently, so I’m happy to try and remain optimistic going into GW7.

Transfer

I have two free transfers and I’m hoping to only use one of them. Staying flexible could be key this season, so I’ll be holding one back when I can. Should I have no injury worries then I’ll likely just drop Maupay to Bamford. It’s a transfer that has an air of point chasing about it, but Bamford has proven himself more consistent and it banks me an extra 0.7m to use elsewhere. It also protects me from his growing ownership that’s now hit 30%.

Trent

That means Trent survives to play another week. Again, he’s was unlucky to not to grab an attacking return and he has a good-on-paper home fixture against a possibly Antonio-less West Ham this week. Now at under 35% ownership, if he blanks again I expect a mass exodus before Man City in GW8. Unlucky is one thing, and we all know he’s an exceptional player, but he’s scored a grand total of 2 points over the last 3 gameweeks and I’m running out of ways to justify his inclusion. I could really use that cash in midfield if he’s not planning on living up to his price tag.

Captain

It’s between the usual suspects – Salah or Kane. Both have a good fixture, both home matches, both should be on penalties… Normally I’d go for the midfielder in these situations for the potential extra points, but that’s not swaying me as much this week. If I get no further insight or news that aids the decision then it may come down to a simple coin toss just before deadline.

Transfer summary:  likely Maupay out and Bamford in

Here’s the team showing how the transfer could be made:

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 4 seasons overall rank were 64k, 45k, 40k and 23k

GW6 points: 57 -4 (FPL average 48) Total points: 286, Overall Rank: 3,780k, green arrow: 302k Team Value: £101.0m

A second green arrow in a row! My season is slowly picking up after such a dreadful start. I have climbed 1.2mil in OR in 2 weeks so it just goes to show that patience is key!

Team review

I haven’t really done this for a while so I will go through each player in my team and give a few comments on each and my plans for them

Defence

McCarthy: would like to swap him for a different GK but not going to use a transfer to do so, will probably wait until wildcard. Not producing many saves which isn’t great for a 4.5m GK. Surprise CS this week which was nice! GK is an area I don’t really focus on so happy to just ignore him for now

Digne: Everton are producing good defensive stats but not the clean sheets to match. I was planning on taking him out soon but with 3 assists and 7 bonus points I now wanted to keep him, but due to the red card may be forced to swap him unless they appeal it successfully

Saiss: brought in this week due to not being able to afford Semedo and couldn’t be happier with the early sub! Happy to have the Wolves defence covered for the good short term fixtures. GW10 likely exit point

Mitchell: so unlucky not to keep a CS this week. With Van Aanholt back could lose his place but was interesting to see him stay on the pitch and move to RB when PVA was introduced. For the price I can easily bench him if he does lose his place.

Justin: outstanding in the first 2 fixtures then done nothing since.. then gets a CS away at Arsenal when I bench him! Happy to hold for now and is cheap enough to bench but looking to replace

Lewis: benched him for his only CS in GW1 and done nothing since.. happy to bench every week but looking to replace

Midfield

Rodriguez: poor team performance this week and somehow played 90 mins when he was reported as injured! Not looking to replace as the fixtures are good until around GW11

Son: essential player and will not leave my team unless injured. Potential exit point at GW9 but may just hold as he seems pretty fixture proof

Barkley: disappointing performance against Leeds which I thought would see both teams score high. Still got great fixtures long term minus the Arsenal game so no plans to replace

Mane: season holder barring injury. 2 assists this week and with Salah blanking provides a good alternative into the Liverpool attack with low ownership

Barnes: 1 returning game week out of 6 which includes blanks at home against West Ham and Villa. Too expensive to bench every week so looking to replace

Forwards

Mitrovic: Fulham have looked poor and he’s not firing so he is my priority to replace. Next fixture at home to West Brom is his last chance to shine in my team, but even if he scores a hattrick I am still looking to replace

Jiminez: steadily chips in with points for my team and good fixtures the next 3. Potential exit point GW10 but will consider the alternatives and may keep.

Kane: essential player and will not leave my team unless injured. Potential exit point at GW9 but may just hold as he seems pretty fixture proof

Summary

GW9-10 looks like the best place for me to wildcard which coincides with the second international break. There are a few fixture swings but I am not planning 100% to wildcard then, I will just see what happens with Covid and injuries.

Plans this week

Note:  This was written before Dignes appeal saw the ban reduced to 1 game

Before the Digne red card I was planning on doing nothing! For the first time this season I am happy with my team but that red card has made it awkward. If Everton appeal and it is rescinded then I will roll the transfer, if the suspension stays I will most probably swap Digne for Chilwell. I have a small selection dilemma too as Barnes is my first sub but plays a Leeds defence with no home clean sheet yet. Leicester are more suited to playing away from home so I see that game being quite a high scoring game. I guess it’s a toss up between starting Barnes or Mitrovic (West Brom at home). Both have been poor and I am looking to replace both but not this week. I won’t be doing any transfers until after the European games this week to see if there are any injuries.

Captain

3 way toss up between Kane, Son and Mane. I am currently on Kane but will see what happens with the midweek European fixtures

Transfer summary:  to be confirmed.  Possibly Digne to Chilwell
