FPL TEAMS GW16 – FFGEEK CONTRIBUTORS SHOW THEIR TEAMS

Here’s a version of the 10 or so FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont covering early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

There’s also the early FFGeek team thoughts article if you’re interested in my team and how the teams of 10 top FPL managers I follow are currently set up

Let’s make no bones about it, GW15 was a week best forgotten. I took a -4 to get a premium goalkeeper in so was already behind before the week began. Chelsea conceding early was big kick in the teeth, as was Hazard’s double figure haul after I’d gambled on not owning him. The week got even worse when captain Kane blanked in the 3pm kick-offs and then Pogba got sent off in the late Saturday game. Sunday started badly as well with Wilson benched in the early game, but there was a late game bail-out for the 3rd Sunday running in the form of Otamendi thus preventing a total car crash!

On the face of things, I still managed 5/11 returns (and benched Duffy managed an assist despite conceding 5 goals) though the -4 put me under the average score and Pogba’s red turned a potential double figure haul into 5 points and leaves me a player banned for 3 games. Much to ponder for GW16

First up transfers. An easy question of who to transfer out – Pogba is suspended for 3 games so he has to go, I can’t afford any passengers especially at £8m. The transfer in options were quite wide. For a straight transfer with no hit, Ramsey is the obvious option. However I’m looking for a premium player in this spot to fill out the midfield so I narrowed down to Hazard, Coutinho and Mane – all of whom would necessitate a -4. Hazard’s form is too good to ignore so he was my choice. I already had 3 Chelsea players so 2 GWs after bringing him in, Azpilicueta is sold to both fund the move and allow for this – a transfer 2 weeks ago that has been a disaster and ultimately cost me a few points.

This left me up to £4.7m to spend on a defender if I did the transfer early or potentially £4.4m if I waiting until Friday. I’ve gone for Jonjoe Kenny at £4.3m who is getting a good run in the Everton team at the moment and is in good form. I could have waited on the basis of his price, but everyone needs to take a risk every now and again so I bought Hazard at the start of the week to get him before his price rose. A risky -4, but I felt was worth taking and it’s added a bot to my OTV which is the one thing that is looking relatively healthy after this week.

For my team, I’ve benched Wilson after he was left out last week and I plan to sell him next week for Calvert-Lewin or another cheapie as The Cherries hit a nasty fixture clump. He’s joined on the bench by Otamendi who faces United away and Kenny who is away to Liverpool before Everton’s fixtures improve. I’m undecided for my captain but it will be between Kane, Salah or Hazard. I’ll have a look at the polls on Friday and probably go with the shield option this week,

All the best for this week folks – may your arrows be green!

GW15 Summary

It was a small green arrow for me last time out in an ok week but it could have been so much more. I made a late Saturday captaincy change from Hazard to Kane which cost me 13 points and around 30k in the overall rankings. FFG often alludes to 50/50 decisions which ultimately determine your final rank and this was certainly one that I got wrong. Elsewhere, there were goals for Morata and my gameweek transfer Otamendi with the latter sealing my green arrow in the late Sunday game. The rest of the team was fairly disappointing but this was a week defined by a poor captaincy choice unfortunately.

GW16 Team

My plan had always been to save the transfer in this week and thankfully no issues have arisen within my team so I will be rolling the transfer as planned. With another batch of midweek games approaching, the extra transfer could easily come in handy.

Looking at the team for this week, it’s difficult to work out who to place on the bench. Niasse is an obvious choice but after that, I need to pick 2 from Daniels, Mee, Kiko and Loftus-Cheek to join him. Watford have been very good away from home and I like the attacking threat and bonus potential of Kiko so he’s in. The Burnley defence is very strong at home and is also extremely popular among fantasy managers so I’ll be starting Mee as well who should be fit to play.

Now for my least favourite part of each gameweek currently; the captaincy choice. It’s between the usual suspects of Salah, Kane and Hazard again. Currently, my order of preference is Hazard then Kane followed by Salah. Allardyce seems to have started working his magic at Everton so I think that he’ll be looking to keep it tight at Anfield during the derby on Sunday. As for the other two, I just can’t bring myself to trust Kane after how much he’s stung me in recent weeks and Hazard looks in fantastic form ahead of a London derby with West Ham. Before the Hammers’ game against Man City, the armband was firmly on the Belgian but their good defensive performance in that game has me wavering a little. Right now, I’m sticking with Hazard but that could easily change.

Looking Ahead

Typically, I’m someone who likes to have an idea of future transfers but I genuinely have no idea of the transfer that I want to make for the midweek gameweek. I’m taking that as a sign that my team is in good shape and I will see what happens over the weekend to help with my decision. There could be lots of rotation in GW17 so I will want a good squad in preparation for the inevitable benchings.

Best of luck to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

A small green arrow which was the result of the Otomendi goal. I have hit a rough patch here where I feel like I am struggling just to stay level. Kane, as has been discussed to death, is underperforming. If he blanks this week, I will replace him probably with Lukaku to free up 1.3. My captain choices have been bad too. I captained Kane last week after having captained Hazard the week before; I just can’t seem to get it right.

This week I am making one transfer – Sane out and Coutinho in. Liverpool are healthy up front for the first time this season, and they have shown the ability to score goals in bunches, just as Man City seems to have gone off –song offensively. I like the Sane to Coutinho swap because Sane has been playing very wide lately and his ability to score a goal has dwindled to wild shots from outside the box. Coutinho also gives me another captain option—I might even prefer him to Salah at this point in the season. (Barcelona certainly would as well.) So even though it is derby week in Liverpool I am all in on the Reds with Coutinho, Salah, and if he is fit, Moreno. I am also all in on Chelsea this week playing Morata, Hazard, and Christensen.

You can see below I plan on a 5-3-2 formation this week. I hope Mustafi has recovered from his injury sustained last week. The excellent site Physio Room rates him only as a slight doubt.

Captain choice is another headache. I try to avoid placing the arm band on a player if I am also playing two of his teammates. If that is the rule both Liverpool and Chelsea players are out as captain options. Kane is leading in the polls but how many times do I put the armband on him only to be disappointed? It is true that Stoke’s defence is not as strong without Martens Indi and I keep thinking the Spurs will finally have a good game after their recent indifferent form. My captain choice will be a game time decision, but as of Thursday evening I am leaning to Kane due to nothing other than the polls and a desire to spread risk. If Moreno is indeed out, I may go Coutinho. Ugh I hate this game.

Good luck to everyone this week.
