This week I expect a Villa double to be announced. The temptation is to go to Coutinho from Mount. However the sensible play is to go to Digne from Livramento. I need a bench and Livramento and Targett aren’t playing.
If no doubles are announced, I may go to Coady, Ait Nouri or Walker.
Captain is on Trent Alexander Arnold for now.

A damage limitation week in the end. Hopefully having Salah on the bench will pay back a hit or two in GW24! I have £2.2m itb and my immediate focus is replacing the injured Livramento. I am likely to go Digne, who has a fixture against his old club and a nice run of fixtures.
Villa also seem favourites to get a double this week, if announced I’ll likely take a hit for Antonio to Watkins and captain Watkins. Benching Broja, Dawson and Salah is straight forward. Key decision is captain (without Villa double). Currently on King, but I quite like Saka – let’s see how he gets on tonight. I also have a decision whether to play Foster or De Gea, currently on Foster.
Transfer summary: Likely Livramento out for Digne in and if a Villa DGW announced likely Antonio out for Watkins

Gameweek 22 review:
Well another drama filled gameweek with three more games cancelled including the North London Derby and both scheduled games for Burnley. Will they ever play again ?
Man City went 11 points clear after beating Chelsea, Liverpool proved they can win without Salah and Mane, Westham slipped up 3-2 to resurgent Leeds, with Spurs winning by the same score despite incredibly trailing after 95 mins !! Norwich are off the bottom after beating Everton with Benitez inevitably paying the price and exiting out of the side door.
Heavy captain favourite Ronaldo was controversially absent from one game despite being declared “available “ and blanked in the other as Bruno Fernandes captainers landed a massive 46 point haul for those who bravely took the plunge !!
My GW22 score and rank:
I went into the gameweek in quietly confident mood, not scratching for players for once. I had 13 starters. I went in with SIX doublers each on two games, but a pretty disastrous set of circumstances saw only TWO of them start both games, and NONE of them record a return from a potential TWELVE games !! This game eh.
I scored 56-4 = 52 points, with just 3 returners, bizarrely all single game players, all highly owned too, so the resulting damage was inevitable. Cancelo, Alexander Arnold and Bowen my only returners.
I was down from 113k to 140k, a very disappointing outcome from a gameweek that promised much and duly delivered large dollops of frustration.
My GW22 talking points:
My double Watford strike force 🐝 🐝 continues to serve up a mix of bad luck and pain. A double gameweek against Newcastle and Burnley held a lot of potential. A frustrating blank against the magpies in a game both could easily have returned, and the Burnley game was postponed for the second time this season !!
Like many, I captained Ronaldo so saw him miss out v Villa when he was declared available to play after a “minor injury” had kept him out of the preceding FA cup tie. A get out of jail fixture against Brentford brought an inevitable blank and early exit. All the more frustrating to see Bruno burning it up in both games.
Having held Salah up to his Afcon exit, my plan was always to switch him to a “placeholder” for an easy switch back. James Maddison or Lucas Moura were my preferred two in that order with both having scheduled doubles. It was pretty clear all week that Ronaldo would be a very heavy captain favourite and I took the decision to take the hit and cover a significant ranking risk and bring him in for Antonio. Maddison and Ronaldo I was set on all week. Two solid doublers bringing my doubles from four to six.
When Leicester had their double cancelled and with Spurs likely to lose theirs too, all eyes were on the Man Utd press conference. If Ronaldo was declared injured, I would definitely have done a simple move of Salah to Bruno, saving a hit, an easy one move back to Mo and keeping Antonio, with Ronaldo a much reduced risk on one game if Bruno had two. The rest is history. Ronaldo didn’t even travel after Ralf declared him fit. Antonio returned, Ronaldo scored 4 points and Bruno 46 !! Ouch 🤕
With Maddison ( who scored ) and Moura without their double, my route to Ronaldo fell to either Mount or Trossard. I chose the Brighton man. Both started only one game and blanked.
Foden started central striker and blanked, Chelsea failed to keep a clean sheet in two games ( one in 11 games now ) and De Gea yet again put himself on the cusp of a big score before keeping up his habit of conceding late on !!!
So what next ?
I have one free transfer and 4.1M in the bank.
My main focus is getting Mo Salah back with his most likely return being GW24. If I can get him back with no hits, that’s my preferred plan, although we know how planning is blowing up in our faces currently with the curveballs of postponements.
As I write these notes early on Thursday, we await news of possible double ganeweek announcements for the upcoming GW23. After this weekends games, we have no scheduled games for two weekends, firstly an international break and then the FA cup 4th round. There is however talk of games being rearranged for the cup weekend for teams out of the cup, with Villa the most likely to benefit from an extra game. These could still fall in GW23, even though the cup weekend is two weeks after the other GW23 fixtures.
If no doubles are announced before the deadline, I will likely roll my transfer. That then gives me two frees to switch Trossard back to Salah in GW24 with Ronaldo making way for either Antonio or more likely Watkins.
However, if Villa get a double, I could switch Ronaldo to Watkins this week instead, doing Trossard to Salah for free in GW24 if Mo returns. Not ideal giving up Ronaldo a week early v Westham when he could troll me after this week, but captaincy looks like being far more spread, and I don’t want to give up my two Watford strikers ahead of a home match v Norwich on Friday night !! Watkins might be a strong captain contender too so I would definitely bring him in if the villa double was announced.
My best scenario would be for villa v Leeds to be announced, as a Raphinha owner, with Burnley v Watford too to give me four doubles in my lap. These are the two most likely games with all four teams out of the cup. I can hope.
I have Rudiger as a concern. Many will have Alonso and the same concern. One clean sheet in 11 is bad enough, but Chelsea play Spurs next and then don’t play in GW24 or GW25 and possibly GW27. If I move Rudiger on before GW25 it will cost me a hit because of my Salah plans. But I could do with moving off Chelsea. Digne of Villa or a Wolves defender are top targets.
It’s possible I could wildcard during the international break too ahead of GW24. An easy route back to Salah, get rid of Chelsea, and clean up my team, although I did draft a wildcard and I was probably only changing 5-6 players, so it’s probably unlikely at this stage. But very much in my thoughts.
My GW23 set up :
Pending any double announcements, I would roll and probably captain Ronaldo but keep an eye on the polls which could be interesting. Foden, Jota, Trent, Cancelo and Raphinha are all strong options too
If villa get the double, Watkins would likely come in as captain
