Introduction

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

GW22 review

I’m sure I won’t be the only contributor to say this, but how on earth did my team get a red arrow with so many returns?! 8/11 returners (9 if you include 2 save points and a bonus from Martinez) usually corresponds to a pretty healthy green arrow. However, this was a uniquely high-scoring week with most of the template players producing points, with the notable exception of the Liverpool boys, of which I have 2. Oh and I left Soucek’s points on the bench. Again.

The big positives this week were once again the City boys and after bemoaning a lack of points from my strikers recently, they all returned though I’d still like my team to be scoring more goals! A frustrating rank drop then, but no time to dwell on this. We’ve got another gameweek again this weekend and next midweek we should find out the final details of who’s going to be blanking in GW29, not to mention us now having confirmed doubles in GW24 and 25 to focus on. Much to ponder moving forward.

GW23 Team

2 free transfers and £4.3m in the bank.

One orange flag on Kyle Walker-Peters. Add to this the curveball of the doubles for GW24 and 25 being announced on Thursday evening and us not being sure on the make-up of likely double GW26 and blank GW29 until the end of next week and there is plenty of food for thought.

You’d think that £4.3m in the bank would be an absolute luxury, but at the moment the lack of consistent premium players is making team selection and particularly the Captain choice somewhat of a lottery. Thinking short-term though, I think the best strategy to take with my transfers is to try cover the key captain options for this week and then try and smuggle in players who have an upcoming confirmed double if possible.

The missing piece for me this week is Spurs cover. They have the pick of the fixtures this week and I think Son will be a popular Captain choice if Kane is confirmed as still unavailable. How I get Son in is the next matter. I can get him in one move for Grealish or even consider selling Salah, or I can use both transfers and sell Soucek (what am I thinking!) using the under-performing Robertson as the enabler. I’d swap Robertson for someone with a double on the horizon – Dallas or Lowton probably the best options here, with the added bonus that both could come straight into my team this week with good fixtures.

Moving onto GW24 and 25 – I’m well set for 24 with triple City and DCL and I suspect I may bring in Nick Pope for my reserve keeper for his double that week. Then in 25 I already have Bamford and KWP may be fit though this may become academic if I Wildcard that week, which I think many will.

Longer term thoughts

Looking even longer term and onto the subject of chips, I still have a decision to take as to whether I Wildcard in GW25 and go for Bench Boost in GW26, or try and hold on until GW30 for the Wildcard with the Bench Boost then used after. The problem of course is GW29, where it looks like we’ll probably only have 4 fixtures. The decision may be influenced by if there’s any chance a team might get a double in GW26 and still have a fixture in GW29. Until Thursday, it looked like Leeds might fall under this umbrella, but this isn’t going to happen now so we’re looking at Fulham, Spurs, Everton or Villa as possibles here, but it’s still an unknown. If there’s even 1 team that gets a fixture in both then I think a GW25 Wildcard, 26 Bench Boost strategy looks feasible as you could have 15 doublers, 3 of whom have a fixture in GW29 and then have 4 transfers to get up to 7 players for GW29. It’s all speculation though still at this stage!

Back to this week anyhow, it looks like my transfers are therefore going to be Son for Soucek and Dallas or Lowton for Robertson, but I’ll wait until Friday evening at the earliest to make these moves. Captain this week will be between Son and Fernandes – I’ll let the polls decide I think and I may be in an odd situation where I end up benching someone like Calvert-Lewin to go for the players with better fixtures. Whatever I do, I’ll post on Twitter as usual likely on Saturday morning before I go to work, tagging Geek in the process.

Good luck this week folks!

With news of the extra doubles in 24 and 25 I’ve decided to just move Antonio in for Kane and risk going without Son. It’s more a short term view with Son’s poor fixtures in 24 and 25, and the extra transfer will hopefully come in handy; also allowing me to react to the fa cup games next week. The risk is his high ownership and high captaincy. So my captain choice will be critical. I can make a case for Antonio, Bruno, Bamford and Grealish (mostly due to Leno absence). Currently on Antonio.

Bench decision is Calvert Lewin or Gundogan, currently Calvert Lewin is playing. I’m also starting Chilwell ahead of Stones, fingers crossed its third time lucky and he plays!

GW22 Review

A very strange gameweek where you’d look at my team in isolation and consider it a strong week with so many returners, and a 68 point total, however I dropped from 59k to 78k which was disappointing.

Bruno, Cancelo, DCL, Watking, Grealish, Bamford all returning and Martinez getting 2 extra save points. Soucek on the bench

Salah (C), Robertson, Dallas the blanks.

The main reason for the drop in rank, is other players alternatives to my returners, also did well (Antonio, Wilson, Sterling, Maddison etc). Then where I had blanks, popular alternatives did well (Justin, UTD defenders, 2nd City defender etc).

For me it’s important I don’t panic here, as my squad still did well in terms of returns, and there’s several double gameweeks on the horizon to make some gains.

GW23 Preview

It’s a tricky gameweek for benching decisions. I have 2 FT and 5m in the bank so I can do anything pretty much.

With the announcements of the GW24 and GW25 double gameweeks for a few teams, I’ve made one transfer of Button to Pope. Burnley have a strong DGW24 and a decent chance of a DGW26 where I plan to Bench Boost.

I will probably roll my other FT. with the FA cup games next week, we will be much clearer on the DGW26 situation and I’m hoping to use my FTs to maximise this opportunity and bench boost, with a view to use the wildcard to navigate the tricky blank GW29 situation.

I am tempted to get Son for Salah/Grealish. He is the most obvious captain pick and very highly owned so Sundays game vs West Brom is a scary prospect without him. My issue here is Spurs look poor going forward, and play City the gameweek after so feels like a 1 week punt, and I want to use all transfers to make the most of the next few weeks. It’s certainly a risk though. If I had him, I’d still captain.

Currently the captain is on Bruno but I have some major headaches with benching. I want to play Soucek as I’m tired of missing his points. Which means one of Calvert Lewin, Bamford, Watkins, Grealish has to be benched. Currently it’s Watkins as I feel the Arsenal fixture is trickiest from an attacking perspective. Watkins is also the lowest owned so is the least risk although Arsenal lacking Leno may change my thinking.

I’m also unsure on which keeper to start

Good luck all
