FPL TEAMS GW36 – FFGEEK CONTRIBUTORS SHOW US THEIR TEAMS

Here’s 10 or so FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont covering early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

 GW35 Summary

Ever since we first found out about the introduction of the free hit chip last summer, I have been itching to use it as I thought it would prove to be extremely powerful. GW35 was finally that time and I have to be very satisfied with the result as I achieved my second successive four-figure gameweek rank. In fact, I think that a gameweek rank of 2,765 may be my best ever result and has propelled me into the top 5k.

It pains me to say this as a Spurs fan, but I rather owe Arsenal and Arsene Wenger specifically for my strong performance. His revelation in his press conference that he planned to play a team to warm-up for the Europa League led to me choosing Monreal and Lacazette who combined for 3 goals. Moreover, the leak of the Liverpool team on Twitter also meant that I avoided Firmino in favour of Mané and gave me the confidence to captain Salah who grabbed his usual goal.

Meanwhile, my triple up on City was rather successful as they returned 3 goals and 2 assists between them in spite of the penalty miss by Jesus. Elsewhere, Zaha was a bit of a disappointment following his recent form, but the points from Butland and Baines at the back helped to make up for this. Ultimately, I am absolutely delighted that I have been able to increase my rank from 21k to 3k over the course of the DGW34 and blank GW35; hopefully, I can maintain this form in the remaining weeks.

GW36 Team

Having said that, GW36 is looking rather tricky now that I have returned to my original team as I am currently sitting without Salah, Kane and any City assets – even I’m not quite sure how I got myself into this situation! The problem is further complicated by the fact that I only have one free transfer to fix these issues. I reached out on Twitter to help me decide which order Kane, Salah & City attack should be prioritised as it seems impossible to rectify all three of these issues this week.

In the end, I’ve decided to be brave and keep Salah out of my team; I made the decision to remove him back in GW33 with the intention of only bringing him back in GW38, so I would like to stick to my guns. The other logic is that I will be able to transfer in Sterling instead this week who will have three great fixtures in the next two gameweeks as opposed to Salah’s two games which include a trip to Chelsea. Bringing in Sterling this week will also enable me to use the transfer in DGW37 for another City attacker to double up for their home games against Huddersfield and Brighton.

The other transfer will be Kane in for Lukaku which my original plan had been when I wildcarded in GW32. The home fixture against Watford looks good so the armband will be heading to him despite his struggles since returning from injury. I am worried about Spurs given the crushing nature of their FA cup semi-final defeat, but they bounced back very strongly from a similar situation last season with the striker at the forefront. Hopefully, they can do the same again this season which would be a massive boost for my FPL rank as I am also tripled up on our attack.

So, in summary, Mahrez and Lukaku will be replaced for a four-point hit by Sterling and Kane with the latter taking the armband. In all honesty, I am rather fearful of what could happen to my rank this week and I will be very happy if I can remain within the top 5k. Much will depend on whether some of my out of form players such as Willian, Alli and Son can find some returns. If not, and players such as Jesus and Salah fire then I could be in some real trouble, but hopefully all goes OK!

Best of luck to everyone for this gameweek and may your arrows be green!

Rob has used his 2nd wildcard, free hit and his triple captain but still has his bench boost

GW35 review

I was licking my wounds a bit going into last week after the debacle that was GW34 and my disastrous Triple Captain chip. Thankfully, the Free Hit chip proved very fruitful. A 5 figure GW rank for only the second time this season has pushed me back into the Top 100k and I’m now at my highest Overall Rank of the season so far.

The success stories were my 3 City players, an unexpected but welcome goal from Monreal and a goal from captain Salah. I left Baines’ points on the bench unfortunately but I’m not going to complain about a pleasing score and it was nice to bounce back from the disappointment of the previous week. My only regret is not being able to keep my Free Hit team for this week!

GW36 Team

So bearing this last statement in mind, I’m back with the lot that let me down in GW34 and GW35 has highlighted some issues. The main one is the lack of City cover. Pep may be inclined to rotate, but City are simply explosive when they hit their stride and that’s heavily in my mind this week. The League may be sewn up, but I simply can’t see them taking the foot off the gas. Their opposition this week are a West Ham side that were awful defensively last week at The Emirates. Add to this a home double against Brighton and Huddersfield next week and I think I’ve made a strong case for buying a City player this week.

Next up, I have no premium striker and I’m going to need one next week. Ideally I want Harry Kane. At worst I want Jesus or Aubameyang. The transfer out makes this the problem – it will have to be Ashley Barnes as I want to hold Vardy and Austin for their double. I’m therefore going to need to start moving some funds out of midfield, so one of my big guns has to go this week to fund my City purchase. I’m holding Salah – the leaked line-up details suggest he’s going to start against Stoke so I’m keeping him to protect rank. I’m going to hold Son as well – I’d like some Spurs attack cover for the Watford fixture and I can’t afford Kane without a serious point hit this week.

It’s down to Hazard and Sanchez then. Hazard has the easier fixture, but the trip to south Wales won’t be easy and the Swans are still scrapping for Premier League survival. United vs Arsenal is a classic EPL fixture, but Arsenal are coming off a tough game on Thursday and will have one eye on the trip to Madrid this week. Sanchez will also be keen to prove himself against his former club and was outstanding in the FA Cup last weekend. I’m therefore holding him for one more week.

My transfer this week then is Hazard out and Sterling in. I was sad to lose Sterling on my WC back in GW32 and it’s nice to get him back in the team, albeit at a more inflated price tag. He’s been fantastic this season and was unlucky to score a mere 11 points last week. He’s also been one of the more gametime secure City midfielders this season and I hope this applies this weekend.

My team is a fairly easy pick after this. Ryan, Ibe, Monreal and Morgan form the bench and Salah has the armband. Looking forward, I have my Bench Boost to play in GW37 and my aim will be to cull my non double players to do this. This is likely to need a -8 or -12, but I think it’s worthwhile for the extra fixtures. We’ll see what happens with injuries this weekend and go from there!

Sorry everyone, I’ve been in a rather dark place from an FPL point of view. That combined with moving house has limited time to do write ups, thanks to Geek for adding some notes. Mt free hit a few weeks ago was a massive fail and I dropped to around 90k and decided to play my wildcard last week after a few players where doubts. It turned out to be the first correct decision in a while and score 25 points more than my old team had I held on to wildcard this week which had been my original plan. Bench boost will be played in DGW37.

On to this week. After only wildcarding last week, the team looks ok on paper. A few things I which I’d done differently would be have Son/Silva/Erik instead of Zaha but never mind. Transfer was a planned one; Lacazette (one week punt after wildcard) to Kane.

The captain is Salah unless we hear he is benched in which case it will be Kane. Good luck everyone.
