Introduction

This is part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Gameweek 36 review

Well only eight games in blank GW36, but no shortage of drama. A Torres hat trick for Man City, Bamford blanked in a 4-0 Leeds win, Sheff Utd played like Brazil and won away, Salah beat Kane 10-8 in the battle of the popular captains, and keeper Allison popped up with an incredible 95th minute headed winner for Liverpool !!

My GW36 score and rank :

51-4 = 47 points. Just four returns from Salah ( C ), Kane, Dallas and Trent . Disappointing blanks from my Everton and West Ham double ups and an injury to Jota.

Six red arrows in seven weeks so the frustration continues, from being on the cusp of that coveted top 10k at 13k in GW29. I just can’t catch a green right now. Down this week from 31k to 33k. So it looks like being a good season rather than a great one !! If anyone had offered me top 0.5% and a 30k rank with two gameweeks to go, I would definitely have taken it in such a tough season.

My GW36 talking points:

I will take a 20 point captain all day long. A goal and full bonus. So going Salah over Kane was a two point gain. Following the polls paid off when I favoured Kane. But it was Kane who almost hauled big after twice hitting the post. Kane was “rank neutral “ to me but it would have been nice to put one over the non Kane owners who had lived a very charmed life in the last few weeks.

More important from that Spurs game was a blank from Son, my biggest “threat “. In fact my four biggest threats, Son, Digne, Watkins and Bamford only managed a solitary assist between them, limiting any “damage “ to my week. Your main threats staying quiet is equally important to your players hauling.

The last minute assist from Trent was useful but not so the injury to Jota, scuppering my plans to roll the transfer this week and forcing me into a GW37 change. I feel like I missed out on Jota and he has “almost gone big” every week since I signed him !!! See you next season Diego.

Calvert Lewin missed a point blank chance from three yards which combined with Everton conceding against a normally feeble Sheff Utd attack, probably cost me a last game green arrow. Very disappointing in a fixture that looked a juicy one for Calvert-Lewin and my Everton defender. Antonio and Lingard blanked too so a frustrating week, with Martinez making it just one clean sheet in ten games.

My last minute decision with Veltman out was whether to take a hit to bring in Godfrey to ensure 11 players, so effectively only a -2 with no bench. It was either +2 or -2 depending on a clean sheet which was rated at 50-50, but I figured it was good insurance against the popular Digne clean sheet, with an outside chance of bonus points and an attacking return. Worth a go for 2 points I think.

So what next ?

I have zero in the bank and one free transfer.

My original plan was to roll the transfer for the flexibility of two or three in GW38 to attack the last gameweek with a couple of last day differentials. But the injury to Jota has now forced me into a change.

I think if I had the cash I would be tempted to throw Greenwood at Fulham, even though he could miss the last game ahead of the Europa league final. But I am 0.2M short. So that might not be a bad thing if it gets me a nailed starter for the last two games.

I am going for Raphinha of Leeds. He has Southampton away followed by West Brom at home, Leeds are fresh from an impressive 4-0 away win, they will be buzzing in GW38 with a crowd back in Elland Road for a Premier fixture for the first time in 16 years, and it also provides some insurance against Bamford if I own both Dallas and Raphinha.
It also provides me with an extra 1.5M which I can use in GW38 to attack the final day.

My GW37 line up:

I think my GW team looks as strong on paper as it’s looked all season, with some very favourable match ups.

I have Kane at home to Villa, Bruno Fernandes at home to Fulham, Calvert-Lewin at home to Wolves, Antonio and Lingard facing West Brom, Salah playing Burnley, and new signing Raphinha in a free scoring Leeds team.

I also have attacking defenders Shaw and Trent on good fixtures too. I was originally on Godfrey v Wolves but after that Everton performance on Sunday, I will probably start the more attacking Dallas instead, especially with Leeds much improved at the back.

It’s a tough captain choice. Kane is my first reaction after he almost grabbed a hat trick against Wolves on Sunday. The polls took me away from Kane to Salah in GW36 so I will see how that checks out. Then there is Bruno Fernandes playing Fulham too. Very tough to choose. I am just glad to be an owner of all three !!!!

Transfer summary:

Likely Jota to Raphinha

Captain:

Possibly Kane but could be Salah or Bruno too.

Good luck everyone for a strong finish in the last two weeks !!!!

Here is the team BEFORE my transfer.

Kris O

Kris’s last 4 seasons overall rank were 39k, 44k, 46k and 23k

GW36 Points:  51   (FPL average 38) Total points: 2,355, Overall Rank: 21k, Green arrow: 1k Team Value: £106.1m

I’ve finished gw36 with a small green, which is great given I only had nine players in the end. As we move quickly onto gw37 my focus is moving on the injured Jota, rather than rolling the transfer as first planned, with £6.9m to spend on his replacement.

It gives me an opportunity to find a differential to help push for the top 10k. At the moment I’m looking at Saint-Maximin, with the hope a home Newcastle crowd can push him on against Sheffield United (Fulham in 38 is also a nice fixture). Foden and Odegaard also interest me.

In terms of captain I’m currently on Fernandes, though Kane also being cheered by a home crowd is giving me something to think about.

Transfer summary: Likely Jota out for Saint Maximin in

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 17k, 84k, 29k and 27k

GW36 points:  55-8  (FPL average 38) Total points: 2,263, Overall Rank: 143k, Red Arrow 1k, Team Value: £104.1m

1k red arrow to 143k and I have to say that the top 100k is quite unobtainable at the moment! I tried attacking the game both on my FH and on my transfers gw36 (targeted Sheffield Utd) but Everton were a shambles!

2nd week in a row I go against the popular captain and come in the loosing end! this week it was pure bad luck as I feel Kane could have easily had 3 goals but it is what it is.

I was only going to do the Trossard to Raphinha transfer but the Jota injury is forcing me to make an extra transfer and take a hit. It’s Greenwood who comes in

Captain will be Kane!

Transfer summary: Trossard to Raphinha and Jota to Greenwood
