FPL tips GW13 – FFGeek contributors show their GW13 teams part 4

This is part 4 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Rick Porter

Rick last 3 seasons overall rank were 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW12 points: 63 -4 (FPL average 48) Total points 678 Gameweek rank 1,170k, Overall Rank: 280k, red arrow 24k , Team Value: £103.5m

“I love it when a plan comes together.” The unforgettable catchphrase of the cigar-munching John ‘Hannibal’ Smith and something I heartily agree. My decision to take my first -4 of the season was a good one. Mendy, King and Cantwell managed just 3 points between them whereas bringing in Martial got me 10. It also moved my team closer to where I want it to be with the removal of some of the unreliable/injured/underperforming dead weight, which is the real win. That said, I still suffered a small drop in OR despite my points being above the average.

My week would have been better were it not for a certain Leicester forward nabbing himself another goal and an assist to boot. Vardy is quickly becoming a thorn in my side and, with some nice fixtures coming up, he’s going to be a real headache for non-owners if his form continues. Especially as he’s now a popular captain choice and has an ownership of over 36%.

My issue is I have no way of getting him into the team without downgrading either Alexander-Arnold, Salah, De Bruyne or Sterling. Considering the fixtures, both Alexander-Arnold and Salah have to stay, which just leaves the Man City assets…

Options

I don’t want to lose either and my belly says that Sterling is due a haul but, if pushed, then I think it’s easier to argue losing Sterling out of the two. Though I’ve had to rummage around for reasons to justify this view. My reasoning…

i) Sterling’s ownership is 35% and dropping whereas De Bruyne is owned by a solid 40%.
ii) I have 0.4m tied up in De Bruyne meaning he’d be tougher to get back if I changed my mind.
iii) Sterling is one yellow away from a ban.
iv) Downgrading Sterling means I can have Maddison rather than Tielemans.

It just comes down to whether it’s a move I actually want to make. Sterling and Vardy have similar ownership levels and both are capable of double digits. I’d essentially be trading one menace for another but taking a -4 for the privilege.

The lack of real news about Salah has made this decision even more irritating. He’s 50/50 to play in my eyes. I should probably use my free transfer to switch him to Mane so I have certain cover for the upcoming Liverpool fixtures and protection from his 37% ownership. I mean, this ankle injury doesn’t seem to be going away and you’ve got to feel he’ll be playing managed minutes at most while he fully recovers.

However, if I’m willing to go a week without Liverpool cover then Salah to Maddison and Pukki to Vardy is also an option. This means Sterling will have to be sacrificed for one of the Liverpool mids in the coming weeks – ideally when he picks up that yellow.

Transfer

I’m massively torn here and all options seem to have equal chance of success or failure, so I’ve I’ve gone full Occam’s Razor and decided that the right choice is probably the simplest one. Salah out and Mane in. I don’t have to worry about Salah’s minutes, I have protection from Mane’s now massive ownership, and I get to keep my hard-earned points. Vardy is my only real worry, so if Ryan could keep him from scoring this week it would be most welcome.

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 2 seasons overall rank were 17k and 1k

GW12 points: 68 (FPL average 48) Total points 712 Gameweek rank 604k, Overall Rank: 55k, green arrow 14k , Team Value: £103.2m

A decent game week last time out, with a forth consecutive green arrow.

Looking at my team, there are three issues / things I would like to change. Firstly, Connolly was a risk that has backfired – he eventually needs to go. Next up, Mason Mount. His general positioning concerns me and I have settled on moving him on. Finally, the lack of returns from my City midfield powerhouses, Sterling and De Bruyne.

I have been wanting to turn Sterling into say a Martial or Pulisic for a while. This would enable a move from Connolly to Jiminez, who is at the top of my shopping list. However, I just can’t bring myself to do it this week as I fancy Sterling at home against an average Chelsea defence.

With two free transfers, I want to do something. So I’ve removed Mount for Pulisic

Captain choice is tough but I’ve gone for Mane instead of Vardy as I think Brighton are strong at home

Best of luck to you all!

Willems in for Benjamin Mendy!

This will free up some cash which will help me get a Liverpool attacker next week with their irresistible fixtures. Not a lot of options for the captaincy this weekend with only Leicester having a decent fixture so vardy it is. Good luck everyone and may your arrows be green!

GW12 points: 70 (FPL average 48) Total points 619 Gameweek rank 459k, Overall Rank: 1,603k, green arrow 724k , Team Value: £103.4m

With 2 transfers I’ve got rid of the dead wood in terms of Wilson and Otamendi and replaced with players that I feel will give me a good balance and plenty of options.

I went for Jiménez with his great run of games coming up along with his decent form. I was going to double up on pool defence but after the uncertainty surrounding Robertson’s injury, decided to double up instead on Leicester. Both Chillwell and Pereira who I already own have both been in good form and been unlucky not to have more attacking returns. I’m looking at the fixtures and now is as good a time as any to roll the dice for these two to pick up not only clean sheets but potential goals and assists also.

I can’t look past Vardy as my captain who I feel will be a lot of people’s choice this week and have De Bruyne as vice.

Playing 4-4-2 and putting my faith in Lundstram and having Mount as my first sub against a tricky game with Man City.

Good luck all

Alex
