FPL tips GW5 – FFGeek contributors show their GW5 teams part 4

Kris has made and additional transfer shown in italics below

This is part 4 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Rick Porter

Rick last 3 seasons overall rank were 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW4 points: 42 (average 57) Total points 221 Gameweek rank 5,799k, Overall Rank: 1,654k, red arrow 1,028k , Team Value: £101.7m

Circa 20 million years ago, when GW4 ended, it was the managers who had transferred in Abraham or Aguero that had reaped the rewards.

I wasn’t one of those managers – kudos to those that were.

Instead I had a blank from my captain, another Manchester United let down at both ends of the pitch and – worse still – a real kick in balls in the form of Laporte who only played 35 mins, got himself a yellow, missed out on the clean sheet and now requires an urgent transfer out due to injury. Not bad for a player I upgraded to only 2 weeks ago because I felt he was a safer use of funds. Him suffering an injury instead of claiming those clean sheet points made a difference of about 400,000 rank-wise. Crushing.

Mane performed mildly better than Salah – which is pretty much the only thing that went my way barring De Bruyne once again proving his worth – but a clean sheet finally punished me for my decision to abandon the Liverpool defence. As many managers are still doubling up, and my alternative defenders fell flat, it really hurt my rank. I knew that was the risk when I rolled the dice, so I have to take it on the chin and look at whether I can prevent it happening again.

Transfer

Clearly Laporte is the one that has to leave my team and, as I have cash in the bank, I have my pick of what to do with him.

Firstly, I’m not interested in bringing in another Man City defender this week. Yes, the clean sheet could well be there, but as far as I’m concerned there is zero security right now. Mendy and Cancelo could make their debut any time now, Stones is ready to go, and the Laporte injury could mean any number of tweaks. The Man City back line is unpredictable at the best of times – this feels like a minefield. I’ll make a more informed decision in the coming weeks.

The sensible thing for me to do is bring in one of the premium Liverpool defenders to protect myself from future clean sheets – the first of which is likely to be this weekend according to the bookies. I just need to pick which one…

As I have the cash TAA is the obvious choice. He simply seems the most likely to get me additional points throughout the season.

Other Issues

My Man United assets look rough. Wan Bissaka may not play at all and Rashford will suffer from the absence of key players. I’ll play WB anyway in the hope he’s fit and, on the plus side, at least Rashford will definitely be on pens.

Captain

Captain choice is Sterling due to the Norwich team being in tatters injury-wise.

Transfer summary;  Laporte out Alexander Arnold in

Keith Spencer

Keith’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 44k, 3k and an incredible 325th overall

GW4 points: 46 -4 (average 57) Total points 240 Gameweek rank 5,283k, Overall Rank: 585k, red arrow 481k , Team Value: £100.2m

The hit man is back. -8 to get Aguero in didn’t want to wildcard just yet

Transfer summary:  King, Perez and Ashley Barnes out.  Aguero, Greenwood and Luiz in

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 3 seasons were 596k, 17k and 21k

GW4 points: 78 (average 57) Total points 262 Gameweek rank 487k, Overall Rank: 79k, green arrow 343k , Team Value: £100.7m

A great last week for me before the international break with 78 points and a jump inside the top 100K, which is a fantastic start to the season. There is not often that the transfers work to perfection, I removed Siggy and Deulofou for Ayew (9points) and KDB (26 points as captain). Not having Sterling played to my advantage this time, since I went with KDB captain. The rest of premiums of the team all returned, so happy days to enjoy while they last.

The Martial injury forced my hand so in the transfers were Martial and King out Pepe and Connolly in for  -4

I actually have a few lineup dilemmas this week, starting in goal, and then with all of Lundstram, Rico, Ayew, Digne, Mount and Dendoncker being possible to play, few of them playing each other. I’ve eventually gone with Lundstram Digne, and Ayew in the starting eleven, Salah as captain.

Good luck this week Geekers!

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

GW4 points: 52 (average 57) Total points 241 Gameweek rank 4,136k, Overall Rank: 545k, red arrow 259k , Team Value: £101.2m

Poor gw4 for me, though would have been worse without Firmino. The continued absence of Martial and Wan-Bissaka’s doubt for Saturday has provided me with a headache for GW5 as I only have 1 FT. I plan to keep Martial longer term and he is likely to back GW6 so will probably keep.

Femenia dropping to 4.4 means limited replacement options as already own Lundstram; Guilbert (4.4) at Villa seems best though has rotation risk. I will likely stick with my initial plan of a simple swap of Wan Bissaka to Matip which also gives me 0.1m to upgrade Femenia at a future game week. This means Greenwood, Femenia or Hanley will cover Martial this week – likely in that order. Not perfect but on balance of long term play feels the best move.

Salah home to Newcastle my captain choice. It will be very interesting to see how wildcarders perform this week, especially those picking up Arsenal and Burnley assets for their upcoming fixtures. Good luck all!

Transfer summary:  Wan Bissaka out  Matip in

Updated:  FYI completed transfers now. decided to bin Martial for Iwobi (as well as AWB to Matip) for a -4. Happy :)
