FPL transfers GW12 – thoughts on what to do with 5 injured or suspended players

Here’s a few thoughts on what to do with 5 injured or suspended players for GW12.  Obviously these are suggestions for you to take on board but please remember to take responsibility for your own team and transfers.

Otamendi

The £5.9m Man City CB is suspended for 1 game after accumulating 5 yellow cards.

For those managers who read my defender player ranking articles they will know I’ve pretty consistently ranked the Man City defence as the number 1 defence. They have 6 clean sheets in the first 11 games second only to Man Utd who have 8.

The 2 CBs in Stones and Otamendi are the natural picks due to their price at £5.9m and £5.7m respectively.  The RB position is a step up in price of Walker at £6.6m and the LB position seems to be occupied by midfielder Fabian Delph for whatever reason.

Otamendi at the moment has the edge over his defensive team mates in underlying attacking stats, bonus, BPS and goals so for me is the natural choice to represent the defence.

The issue though is the return, if it ever happens, of Kompany.  Pep seems to have settled on a back 4 although he hasn’t really had the personnel he seems to trust to play 3 at the back.   On that basis if and when Kompany is ready 1 of Otamendi and Stones could drop out

However for me I would tend to hold him for the weekend although that may depend on your defensive alternatives, bench and other injury situations

Alderweireld

The £6.0m Spurs CB is looking like he’s going to be out with a hamstring injury for sometime so a definite sell for me.

I suspect Davinson Sanchez will take his place unless Dier does.  Unfortunately Sanchez is the same price as Alderweireld as is Vertonghen so no price advantage in transferring either in.

Vertonghen is the natural swap as the cheaper fullbacks will rotate, and is the same price as Alderweireld of £6m. It’s just alot to lay out for a guy who has little attacking potential and in a defence weakened by it’s key defender.  Vertonghen hasn’t exactly been eating up bonus points either.  The flip side is the fixtures are good after this weekend.

Another option is a Man United defender although with Jones out at the weekend, to be selection safe you may need to pay as much as £6.7m for Valencia.

Charlie Daniels at £4.8m is another option far cheaper who is a punt on very good fixtures and some attacking potential as is £4.6m Gomez

As I said above there’s a ton of data in my defender player ranking articles

Phil Jones

The £5.5m Man Utd defender has been excellent value for United’s 8 clean sheets although he is out it seems for at least Man Uniteds game against Newcastle in GW12.  Unless it is reported that he’s out for a longer period I’m planning on holding given that the other alternatives to have representation of the United defence is far more expensive or involves getting in GK De Gea at £5.7m

Chicharito

The £6.9m West Ham striker looks like he will be out for a few games with a hamstring injury.

Unless you’re trying to totally restructure your team the best cheap striker option for me is £5.8m CF Murray of Brighton who has 4 goals in his last 3 games backed up by excellent underlying stats.  That’s followed by £5.9m Swansea forward Abraham who I’m less enthused over.  He’s scored 4 goals and an assist in his 11 starts

Atsu

The £5.1m Newcastle LWM is back from the International break with a quadriceps strain and yet to have a return date given to him.

No one really in his exact price range that I would suggest.  The closest would be Stoke LW/CF Choupo Moting at £5.7m.  He’s got 2 goals and 3 assists in his 10 starts and has a few decent fixtures until things turn in GW16.
