Contributors Imaginary wildcard teams

On our Patreon subscripton site we are now doing weekly contributor imaginary wildcard articles.

There were 2 contributor imaginary wildcard articles over the International Break

The first from Joseph Crilley who’s last 3 seasons OR were 28k, 7k and 13k.

The second from Costas Chari  who’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 84k, 29k and 27k

Here’s the other benefits:

You will get access to an FPL contributor tracker team (currently 565 points and 135k overall rank) which combines the contributors individual teams each week to show their favourite players, transfers and captains. It will always be completed on a Friday/Saturday in a normal gameweek. There will also be an accompanying spreadsheet so you can drill down further.

Introduction

Note this article was written before Fridays managers press conferences

The idea of this article is to bring together the other articles of the gameweek.

The article is brief as there’s loads of information on individual players in the rankings articles:

Forward player rankings

There’s also:

My form rankings

You can also see who the 10 top FPL managers I follow each week have in their team. You can also see which players have the best fixtures in our fixture ease article

There’s also who I’m thinking of in my article early FFGeek team thoughts

There’s also the contributors teams for GW13 part 1 and contributors teams part 2

Structure

With Hayden the only permanent bench player it’s likely the team will play 3-4-3 or 4-4-2 as it’s hard to see any of the midfield 4 being benched.

Goalkeepers

I’ve gone for Gazzaniga for a bit of Mourinho defensive bounce now that he’s manager of Spurs.  The choice is difficult with Pope not performing to his usual standard and Henderson ineligible this week as well as making it a risky double up due to Lundstram’s seemingly must have nature.

Button of Brighton still seems the most likely non playing £4.0m GK to start if the first choice is injured

Defenders

I’ve used this nice little run of games as a reason to bring in the double Liverpool fullbacks in Robertson and Alexander Arnold.  Despite the lack of clean sheets for me they are still the best defensive team in the league by their underlying numbers and the clean sheets will come.  What’s more the 2 fullbacks are no 1 and number 4 in my attacking form charts for defenders.

I’ve gone for the value pick of Soyuncu in the Leicester defence although more funds could have meant I went with the attacking option of £5.8m Chilwell.

Lundstram of Sheffield United is 2nd in my defender attacking form charts and playing as a fairly attack minded central midfielder.  The Sheffield defence has been surprisingly sturdy at home.

Lastly I’ve gone for another cheap option in Tomori fr the improving Chelsea defence

Midfield

Martial has put up some great stats when on the pitch this season despite the stuttering Man Utd attack. He’s playing CF at a pretty handy price so he’s in the team for me.

Sterling is definitely my first choice Man City midfielder but I found it impossible to fit him in so I’ve gone for roughly £2m cheaper in De Bruyne.  The City attack is too good to ignore.

Pulisic as I write this is an injury doubt but his form is so strong for the price that he’s worth the gamble

Mane is in the team due to the fitness doubts of Salah.  I’ve said before that my preference is for Salah when fully fit.  Salah has the advantage of penalties when Milner isn’t on the pitch and Salah shoots more.  However , apart from penalties, their underlying xG/xA is very similar

Hayden is the 1 permanent bench warmer.  I would prefer Dendoncker but with the Wolves manager playing 3-4-3 in the last 3 games that leaves no room for him as Moutinho and Neves are surely first choice CMs.  At the moment Dendoncker is playing in the back 3 but Bennett seems likely to take that position now he’s fit.  For more attacking options there’s only Brighton’s £4.5m Alzate but I worry about his longevity given Trossard being back in the team

Forwards

Vardy and Abraham are the form choices and need little explanation.

For the last spot there’s fairly limited funds so I’ve gone for my old mate and  fixture punt of Southampton’s Danny Ings.  He seems to have got the starting position and 5 of his last 6 games have seen him get to 80 minutes as well.  His underlying stats have always been good, he has penalty duties and the fixtures are good.

GW18

The fixture of West Ham v Liverpool has been postponed.  So Liverpool players will need to be sold or benched for that game.  The situation is complicated by the fact that Leicester are away to Man City and Chelsea are away to Spurs which is not helpful as these are invariably well represented in our teams.  Maybe a reason not to get Tomori in.

Wolves have the plum fixture away to Norwich which is why you might want to get £7.3m fwd Jimenez in or go big in defence with £6.0m Doherty.  Villa home to Southampton is also a good fixture as is Man Utd away to Watford.

No Arsenal?

This may sound like a stupid question given their form but Southampton (H), Norwich (A) and Brighton (H) are a great little run.  £11.0m Aubameyang and £9.3m Lacazette are the only real options and they are quite expensive for a misfiring team.  However you may think the gamble is worth it but you may need to ditch one of the City or Liverpool premiums to do it.
