Here’s our FPL wildcard team GW27 article where I pretend I’m using my wildcard. This is to give you transfer suggestions for GW27 for the upcoming gameweeks rather than just 1 gameweek alone.
FPL wildcard team GW27 – the FFGeek imaginary wildcard
This article was written before the GW26 game of Man City v West Ham
If you join our Patreon subscription site one of the FFGeek contributors does an imaginary wildcard article every gameweek. This weeks it’s an excellent article from Andrew Whitfield.
Andrew finished with an overall rank of 6k last season and 19k in 17/18. There’s also loads of other features which you can see at the bottom of this article.
Introduction
The idea of this article is to bring together the other articles of the gameweek.
The article is brief and with no stats as there’s loads of information on individual players in the rankings articles:
There’s also:
You can also see who the 10 top FPL managers I follow each week have in their team. You can also see which players have the best fixtures in our fixture ease article
There’s also the bandwagons and sinking ships article where we look at the most transferred in and out players
Then there’s who the FFGeek readers are transferring in and out as well as our captain poll
Blanks GWks GW28 and GW31
You may have seen my recent article on the blanks and doubles
Blank GW28
The EFL cup final clashes with GW28 meaning there are the following postponements.
Sheffield United v Aston Villa
Man City v Arsenal
Where they go is yet to be determined.
Blank GW31
The FA Cup 6th round clashes with GW31 meaning there are postponements;
The only guaranteed games are
Burnley v Watford
Wolves v Bournemouth
Norwich v Everton will remain if Norwich lose to Spurs in the 5th round
The FFGeek imaginary wildcard team
Here’s the team. It’s around £107m but it’s intended to be a menu of players for transfer ideas as opposed to a strict wildcard
Structure
It’s a fairly flexible team where everyone can contribute points. I’ve set it up that way so when it comes to using your bench boost for an upcoming double gameweek without a wildcard you have a full compliment. That’s possibly not until GW34 so need to over plan at the moment but worth setting the foundations.
I’ve gone for the double Liverpool defence rather than double Liverpool attack just so I could get more depth in the team
I think if you were to wildcard now it would be difficult to not free hit in the blank coming of GW31. The transition to the likely double of 34 without a wildcard would maybe be too great.
However this article is also there to give you transfer options and not just if you’re wildcarding
Goalkeepers
You will see from my defender player rankings article that only Alisson has a better save % than Henderson and behind a solid defence he’s my GK pick. For the bench boost later and to cover the blank GW28 I’ve gone for the cheapest GK as additional cover in some sort of defence and that’s McCarthy.
Defenders
First up is Boly. They have a guaranteed game in GW31 plus good fixtures to come. He also has some attacking threat and is the cheapest secure defender. If you’ve got loads of cash Doherty is an expensive but great attacking short term fixture punt.
The Leicester defence isn’t going through it’s greatest patch but it’s hard to write it off completely and Soyuncu is still reasonable value
Next is the double Liverpool defence. For me it’s definitely the attacking duo of Alexander Arnold and Robertson. Robertson may not be quite the attacking force that Alexander Arnold is but his ability to match him for bonus is a big plus.
I’ve spent alot of time on here saying the Man Utd underlying stats eventually have to lead to clean sheets and finally that came to fruition with 4 in the last 5 games. I’ve gone for Maguire here although could easily have gone for Wan Bissaka.
Midfield
First up I’ve gone for Harvey Barnes. He’s put up some pretty stellar stats recently and although it’s Man City next the fixtures after that are excellent
Salah needs no justification hopefully
De Bruyne is a tricky one. His stats don’t quite justify his price for me and I did think seriously about Mahrez but feel that De Bruyne still is more likely to play. Mahrez on the bench v West Ham reinforces that view. It is a big watchout though depending on how Pep plays the Premier League with the title gone. He does have a blank in GW28 but I would still put him in now rather than hoping you can just fit him in after the blank because your team won’t need anything else done.
Next I’ve gone for Dele Alli. That’s mainly on the basis of form as the fixtures are mixed. Also the injury to Son will hopefully cement an attacking midfield/support striker position. I could have gone for Martial as well it was a close call.
Lastly I’ve gone for what I think is the best contributing bench player in Mooy who is the key midfield player for Brighton
Forwards
While Vardy’s recent form has been more than questionable. The fixtures post Man City in GW27 make him worth the gamble that he can recreate his earlier season form.
I spoke at length about Ings in the forwards player rankings as he has over performed his xG underlying stat more than anyone so will we see a slowdown. The fixtures and price make him worth the gamble
Lastly there’s Jimenez who’s been pretty consistent all season and now has a decent run of fixtures
