FPL wildcard tips GW36 – the FFGeek contributors and their imaginary wildcards

Contributors, Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

I imagine those FPL managers who didn’t wildcard in GW32/33 or earlier will be wildcarding this week so here’s our FPL wildcard tips GW36 article where 3 of the FFGeek contributors show their imaginary wildcard teams.

FPL wildcard tips GW36 – the FFGeek contributors and their imaginary wildcards

I will be doing my usual imaginary wildcard article tomorrow morning hopefully.

Rob Reid (aka the FPL Vet)

Here’s my imaginary wildcard for GW36. In reality though, it’s geared very heavily to GW37 for managers who have still retained their Bench Boost chip and to a lesser extent those who also have their Triple Captain chip.

Goalkeepers

I’ve gone for De Gea and Fabianski, who both have doubles in GW37. DDG gives you cover for his massive ownership and is probably gametime secure with Romero injured. Fabianski is playing for a team who will probably still have something to play for in GW37 and may even have a winner takes all fixture to come versus Stoke in GW38. He’s always good for save points and the Swans GW37 and 38 have good clean sheet chances.

Defenders

I’ve gone cheap and cheerful here. Smalling is my only premium defender, giving a United defensive double up for GW37. Otherwise there’s 2 Newcastle defenders in cheapies Dummett and Lejeune, a Leicester cheapie in Chilwell and another Swansea defender in cheapie Van Der Hoorn. All have double gameweeks for the Bench Boosters and there’s is plenty bench fodder here for the Triple Captainers who will want more funds up top.

Midfielders

Salah is the only non-double player. I can’t see Liverpool resting him for the Chelsea game even though they’ve got 1 foot in the UCL final. Sterling is the second premium player – great form, great fixtures and the most game-time secure City midfielder after De Bruyne. He’ll be keen to carry his form into the World Cup. Arnautovic is my 3rd choice. He’s been a shining light in a struggling Hammers team of late and I’d expect at least 1 return in his double in GW37, he may even return at home to City in GW36. Now 2 cheapies – King from Swansea is outstanding value at £4.2m and I’ve gone for Iwobi for my other choice, who seems to be favoured in the league while Wenger rotates his big name players for the Europa League.

Forwards

I’ve gone big up top with Kane, Aubameyang and Jesus. All offer good GW37 options and have a good chance of playing both games. All also present Triple Captain options as well for those still holding the chip. I’d be disappointed if there weren’t at least 5 goals between the 3 of the them across the 2 games in GW37, and they’re all good goal threats for GW36 as well.

Other considerations

If Ramsey was to play both GW37 fixtures, he would be great value for GW37 at £6.9m. I guess this would hinge on Arsenal’s participation in the Europa League. City defensive cover for GW37 was another thing I considered, the problem here though is rotation. Laporte at £5.1m though is a great option if there are any central defensive injuries. Lastly, I’ve no Chelsea cover but I still feel Hazard might have a big return in him before the season’s end. He’s expensive so you’d have to sacrifice a big name forward but would make a good differential.

Hope this is of interest and good luck everyone if you’re playing your Wildcard this week.

I’ve created this team from the perspective of someone who is planning to bench boost in DGW37 as I imagine that those who have held to the chip until now will have that intention. As you can see, this team is mainly built around Spurs and Man City who have the best double gameweek with good fixtures either side of it additionally.

In goal, I’ve gone for the fairly standard combination of De Gea and Fabianksi, with the former still looking a great way into the United defence with his save points, while Swansea have the most promising double gameweek out of the lesser sides. With that in mind, I have also elected to bring in Naughton to double up on their defence. Dummett and Chilwell are the cheapest options in their respective defences so I’d be hoping that they can pick up a clean sheet during their double. From the top sides, I have stuck with Smalling who seems to have secured his place and has shown some good goalscoring form, while Davies is selected in the hope that we will see very little of Rose before the end of the season.

Son is my Spurs midfielder of choice due to funds more than anything, though he has shown some wonderful form at Wembley throughout the season and Spurs have 3 home games out of their last 4. I still like the OOP prospects of Arnautovic, and Kenedy looks the best cheap option despite being ineligible to play in GW38. Finally, the obvious pair of Sterling and Salah are in, though the way I’ve set up the team allows the possibility to transfer the latter out in DGW37 for another City midfielder or even Hazard before bringing him back for GW38. I should clarify that I am able to do this because I sold Salah in GW33 so have no value tied up in him.

Up front looks pretty template to me; Kane and Jesus are in as strikers for top 6 sides who should start all of their side’s remaining games and would be the choices for captaincy in the double. They are joined by cheapie J Ayew who would also be required for GW38 with Kenedy’s ineligibility in mind.

Good luck to all utilising their wildcard this week and hope that this article can help with your final decisions!

Alex Ball

You may recall from last weeks contributors article that Alex Wildcarded.  So it’s good to see that his imag wildcard team is quite close to that one!

Quite similar to my own wildcard team from last week but the big difference is taking money out of the defence and put into the attackers, in this case Vardy. It could also be put into another premium midfielder from City or Spurs. I’ve tripled on Swansea defence as a roll of the dice in the hope they get a cleansheet from the DGW.
