The schedule
The schedule ranking is now based on 21/22 stats. The sschedule ranks the teams by averaging their Goals against and their expected goals against. It is not adjusted for upcoming fixtures
Player values and stats were as of Wednesday 29 September
There’s a stat in the schedule focusing on the Defensive performances so far this season. It’s called “xCS” or expected clean sheets. The stat counts the number of clean sheets that should have happened if a team has an xG against of less than 1.0. You can see these each gameweek in my gameweek analysis posts
The key part of the article is the transfer suggestions for this week where I’ve tried to balance a good entry point, defensive strength of the team and upcoming fixture easiness.
Here’s the schedule
Player suggestions for GW7
Here’s some transfer suggestions for GW7 where, as I said above, I’ve tried to balance a good entry point, defensive strength of the team and upcoming fixture easiness. You can see the fixtures on the fixture ease schedule below
Chelsea
I’ve written this before tonights UCL match at Juventus
Chelsea are the 2nd ranked defensive strength team and have a great entry point v Southampton and fixtures going forward. For me they are the top defensive target for GW7.
With Reece James injured the best attacking option is undoubtedly Marcos Alonso. He’s started every game but at some stage you’ve got to think Chilwell will come back to it as the situation seems to be as much about Chilwell’s post Euro struggles as Alonso’s form.
As I’ve said before there are 4 front line CBs for the back 3 positions in Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Silva and Christensen. Should Silva play tonight that could enhance the chances of a rest vs Southampton meaning the other 3 will start unless Tuchel brings in the 2nd string of Chalobah and Marlang Sarr. Azpilicueta could also take the RWB spot although that could go to Hudson-Odoi.
If it’s crucial for you (as it is with my FPL team) that the Chelsea transfer starts in GW7 then as I write this £5.7m Rudiger and £6.0m Azpilicueta are probably the option with least risk but conversely the option with least upside.
Wolves
A good entry point vs a Newcastle side without Callum Wilson but mixed fixtures going forward. £4.9m Semedo has been the attacking option but you can save some money on his oppositie wing back in £4.6m Marcal.
Arsenal
Their current ranking doesn’t represent their defensive strength. Now they have the first choice CB partnership in White and Gabriel plus Partey back fit they should be something like last seasons 4th ranked defensive team
You can see from the expected clean sheet schedule that they should have had clean sheets in all 3 of the last games (they got 2).
£4.9m Tierney is undoubtedly the best attacking option while £4.4m White is a cheap fund saver. £4.5m GK Ramsdale has also started impressively although with just 3 starts now and leno as back up there is still some residual gametime risk.
Some cheap funders
If you looking to raise funds then £4.2m Livramento is possibly the best Cheap option. Unfortunately away to Chelsea is the worst possible entry point.
If you want to go ultra cheap then the 2 £4.0m defs currently starting are Williams of Norwich and Newcastles Manquillo. Williams is the safest of the 2 as Manquillo has only started the last 3 and has been behind Murphy for sometime in the pecking order. However neither defence is likely to bring you much in the way of clean sheets so if you can spring for £4.4m White he’s a much better option
The fixture ease schedule
Here’s a schedule where the teams are ranked by the easiness of the attacking teams they face over the upcoming 6 gameweeks
The expected GWK Clean sheet schedule
The 1 denotes that the team had an xG Against of less than 1 and has assumed that as an expected clean sheet. The actual clean sheet total is next to it
