Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW11 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 11 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 11 Picks

Banker – Aymeric Laporte (£5.8m MCI) – SOU

With only 3 goals conceded this season, the Manchester City defence has fast become a must-have for FPL managers. The main issue is rotation, which is why I’ve opted for Laporte over some of the sexier, more attack-minded options available. He’s played 90 minutes in every league match this season and his outstanding display at Wembley this week showed why Pep trusts him as a lynch-pin in defence. He may not be a bonus point hoover, or favourite for attacking returns but his consistency of selection makes him ideal Banker material.

Ace (as picked by the Fantasy Football Geek Twitter Community) – Sergio Aguero (£11.3m MCI) – SOU

Kun failed to return for only the third time this season away to Spurs on Monday, but he was still the runaway winner in this week’s Ace poll with 56%. Many thanks to the 467 of you on Twitter who voted. Southampton at home looks like a fixture primed for another City goal-fest. If it is, it’s a case of if Aguero will be hooked after an hour and miss out on picking up the goodies as we all know he can run riot on his day. Are you brave enough not to captain him this week?!

Joker – Ross Barkley (£5.8 CHE) – CPL

You can’t really ignore 36 points in 3 gameweeks, so it’s no surprise that over a quarter of a million FPL managers have transferred Barkley in this week. He does face some competition in midfield from the likes of Loftus-Cheek and Kovacic, but Sarri should favour him based on form this weekend, with Chelsea’s Carabao Cup line-up this midweek also suggesting this. Opponents Palace haven’t had the best of starts to the season, but a word of caution is that The Eagles have won twice at Stamford Bridge in the last 3 seasons. They’ll have to be on top of their game this weekend though to match the in-form Blues and I like the chances of the 5.9% owned midfielder adding some more returns to his tally.

That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!
