Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW12 player picks
Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 12 Player Picks.
You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.
I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!
Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 12 Picks
Banker – Mo Salah (13.0m LIV) – FUL
#The lure of a home fixture against Fulham will be too much for most managers this week I reckon, with Salah likely to be the leader of the captain polls. It’s also the start of a nice run of fixtures until Man United visit Anfield in GW17. It may ‘only’ be 5 goals and 4 assists for Salah so far this season, but you’ve got to fancy him to fill his boots this week against the ailing Cottagers backline. The only worry might be gametime after a tough 90 minutes in Belgrade on Tuesday night.
Ace – Calum Wilson (6.8m BOU) – new
A strange Ace choice this week perhaps? Form would suggest otherwise. Wilson is the second highest scoring striker in the game and with 6 goals, 7 assists and 8 bonus points is collecting points in all areas. Opponents Newcastle haven’t been the worst at the back this season and often don’t ship many at home. But I think this game is made for The Cherries fast counter-attacks, with Wilson at the fore. It’ll be interesting to see how Bournemouth fare over the next few weeks though, as their fixtures get significantly tougher from GW13.
Joker (as picked by the Fantasy Football Geek Twitter Community) – Jamie Vardy (9.0m LEI) – BUR
The closest poll yet this season, saw Vardy just edge out Felipe Anderson 31% vs 30%! Many thanks to the 325 of you who voted. It’s not been the best start to the season for the retired England striker, but he’s got a great fixture this week against a Burnley side who are conceding big chances left, right and centre. He was unlucky not to add to his 3 goals last weekend after his goal-bound effort was cruelly handled onto the bar by Sol Bamba and the handball subsequently being missed by the match officials. I strongly suspect he’ll make amends this week.
That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!
