Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW14 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 14 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week.

Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 14 Picks

Banker (as voted by the Fantasy Football Geek Twitter Community) – Aaron Wan-Bissaka (CRY £4.2m) – BUR

Many thanks to the 279 of you who voted in The Battle of the Budget Bankers this week. The overwhelming winner with 72% was Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as Palace enter a kind run of fixtures. It’s been a tough time for The Eagles having just faced 4 of the Big 6 in a row, but they emerged with a creditable 0-0 from last weeks fixture at Old Trafford giving promise of some future defensive returns. Next up it’s Burnley at home and with the visitors in wretched form and AWB a keenly priced squad player for many managers, it looks like a nice week to have The Special Wan in your line-up.

Ace – Raheem Sterling (MCI £11.3m) – BOU

Sterling is on fire at the moment with 3 goals and 5 assists in his last 4 games, giving him a tally of 7 and 7 for the season so far. The added bonus is that he’s almost still a differential player, but his 13.6% ownership is sure to rise if he keeps up this current run. The only problem is how to fit him in! For this week, opponents Bournemouth have stuttered a bit of late, albeit through a difficult fixture period. I can’t really see Eddie Howe going against his principles and parking the bus at The Ethiad, so I suspect there will be goals in this for The Citizens with Sterling looking set to profit!

Joker – Callum Paterson (CAR £5.2m) – WOL

Here’s a Friday night Joker pick for anyone looking for a cheap midfield differential! With 1.6% ownership, Paterson has played in a few positions this season. He’s generally considered to be a utility midfielder, and recently played as a right-back in Scotland’s Nations League matches. But he’s also been frequently used as a striker by The Bluebirds and it is here where he is most appealing as an out-of-position fantasy asset, with 3 goals and an assist in his last 5 matches. His next 4 fixtures are all on the easier side, next up is inconsistent Wolves at home. And if nothing else, he has a fabulous Movember moustache – if this isn’t a reason to pick him as a Joker, then what is?!

That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!
