Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW16 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 16 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week.

Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 16 Picks

Banker – Harry Kane (TOT £12.5m) – lei

A shift from Ace to Banker this week for Sir Harold as he generates a sizeable bandwagon for GW16. And there’s good reason too. He’s returned in his last 5, Spurs have a highly favourable fixture list, he’s probably the most gametime secure striker in the league and well, put simply – he’s Harry Kane. It’s a visit to inconsistent Leicester up next with The Foxes form proving very difficult to predict at present. They do have 5 clean sheets this season, but none of these are against teams in the top half of the table. Kane will therefore fancy his chances as Spurs try to cling on to the coat tails of breakaway leaders Man City and Liverpool.

Ace – Alexandre Lacazette (ARS £9.6m) – HUD

There’s another sizeable FPL bandwagon and it’s firmly behind Laca’s teammate Aubameyang at the moment, but I reckon it’s the Frenchman who will go big on Saturday afternoon. When he starts, he is almost always deployed as the central striker with Auba shifted out to the left and with Auba having played 90 minutes in the last 4 games I’m suspicious the enigmatic Unai Emery might afford Lacazette’s strike partner a rest this weekend. Opponents Huddersfield have improved of late, but still struggle on their travels. They are without a clean sheet away from home and have conceded 18 goals in these 7 games. The stage is set for The Gunners to fire!

Joker (as voted by the Fantasy Football Geek Twitter Community) – Heung-Min (TOT £8.4m) – lei

A big thank you to the 303 of you who voted in this week’s Poll and also to fellow contributors Joe and Alex, along with The Geek himself who helped select this week’s polls options. It was Geek’s choice who won in the end, meaning it’s a North London lock-out for GW16 Player Picks! Son looks a good choice as well, 3.4% ownership and returns in 4 of the last 5. The South Korean international likes to go on a hot streak of form and I think his pace and running power will really trouble The Foxes defence this weekend.

That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!

  1. Rob, just a little correction:
Huddersfield kept a clean sheet away from home against Wolves in GW13. For the record, I still think Arsenal will maul them.
