Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW18 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 18 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 18 Picks

Banker – Felipe Anderson (WHM 7.4m)

WAT – The 19.7% owned Brazilian has been in a rich vein of form of late and he notched another assist last week to make it 5 goals and 2 assists since GW11. The Hammers excellent run of fixtures continues this week with the visit of Watford. The Hornets have been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season and their victory over Cardiff last weekend was their first since GW10. Both teams like to attack so there should be some entertaining football on show and hopefully some goals, and if Anderson returns again expect to see his bandwagon gather even more pace ahead of festive trips to Southampton and Burnley.

Ace – Raheem Sterling (MCI 11.6m) – CRY

A goal off the bench with his first touch last weekend makes it 9 goals and 7 assists for the England star so far as he continues the brilliant form that’s seen him return in 5 of his last 7 appearances. It’s a home favourite for his club next – The Citizens just love playing Palace at home; they’ve amassed 17 goals and conceded none in their last 4 league meetings against The Eagles at the Ethiad! It would certainly be a brave manager who doesn’t have any City coverage this weekend and indeed right the way through the festive calendar, though of course be prepared for the usual Pep Rotation Roulette from game to game.

Joker (as voted for by the FFG Twitter Community) – Marcus Rashford (MAN 6.9m) – car

Old Trafford hasn’t been the happiest of places of late, but the sacking of Jose Mourinho looks to have given a bit of festive cheer to the United squad. Rashford won the battle of our budget striker picks this week and will undoubtedly by buoyed by the appointment of legendary Red Devil Ole Gunnar Solksjaer as caretaker boss.

The 8.9% of fantasy managers who own Rashford will certainly be hoping the baby-faced assassin will influence him enough to add to the 3 goals and 5 assists he has this season. Opponents Cardiff are hardly renowned for their defensive solidity so I think there’s a good chance that he will!  The news that Lukaku has been given compassionate leave and likely to be out for 2 games enhances his initial starting prospects.

That’s all from me folks and a very Merry Christmas to you all. And don’t forget it’s a Friday night deadline this week – best of luck !
