Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW19 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 19 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 19 Picks

Banker – Paul Pogba (MAN £7.9m) – HUD

Pogba certainly stuck a big fat two fingers up at the departing Jose Mourinho last weekend with a superb display away to Cardiff which bagged him 3 assists and 13 points. It just proves what a capable asset he can be both to United fans and FPL managers, something that is a hugely frustrating fact for us all. With the United fixtures set so fair, Pogba looks great value and is arguably now the most gametime secure asset with Lukaku and Sanchez waiting in the wings to displace some of their other attacking options in the near future. The question as ever is sustainability. Will he revert back to lazy mode or will he continue to fire? You pay your money and you take your chance, but I can see him pulling in some good returns over the next few weeks.

Ace – Mo Salah (LIV £13.2m) – NEW

It was another superb display from the Egyptian last Friday, his second double figure score in the last 3 gameweeks. In what could be considered a more steady campaign to the fireworks of 2017-18, Mo still has 11 goals and 6 assists with the only minor worry being the relative lack of bonus points that accompany this. Newcastle have caused Liverpool some headaches in the last couple of seasons, their defeat at Anfield back in March was their first loss to Liverpool in 4 EPL games. Liverpool have been a different beast so far this season though and should be buoyed by the confidence of their 4 point lead at the top and I’m backing them to win comfortably, which should see Salah at the fore.

For the festive period, some of my fellow contributors will be making the Joker picks. This week, it’s Contributors League leader Jordan Sadler. Jordan provides the FFG weekly line-ups article and is having an excellent season, currently ranked at an incredible 1135th overall. Here’s his GW19 Joker Pick:

Joker – Heung-Min Son (TOT £8.6m) – BOU

It’s another outing as Joker for Son this week, sitting at just under the 10% Joker threshold on Christmas night. He was part of the highest scoring game of the season last week, scoring 21 points (2 goals, 2 assists, 3 bonus.) Everton certainly paid the price for trying to take Spurs on, and I’d expect the same of Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth this week. He may not be as reckless, but I expect he will believe in his team playing good football instead of just playing a deep defensive line. This should be perfect for Son; he has excellent underlying stats of 0.5 xG/90 and 0.2 xA/90 and was very effective playing as part of a front 2 with Kane last week. The Cherries have conceded 28 goals so far this season, the 7th worse in the league with 13 of these coming against the other 5 top 6 teams, not pretty reading for their incoming trip to Wembley.

Thanks to Jordan for his pick and best of luck for GW19 everyone!
